Clarence Reid
Just listening to the radio show as we speak, really enjoyed it. Had the good luck to be involved with the George Jackson nights, not many punters but musically fantastic IMO. I love Clarence Reid too, great stuff!!

Benny Hill & The Temptations (added Sound File Now!)
Equally ruined for me is Bobby sheens version of 'I may not be what you want' B side of 'Something new to do'. My wife said the intro sounds like Joe Dolce- Shuddup ya face Now rendered totally unlistenable for me

Limelight Club In The 80's
Definitely went to at least 2 Limelite do's. Bit hazy apart from drinks being very pricey.I would have been in the dunmore room because I would have been more into 70s around that time.

A Soulful Send Off
Randy Cozens funeral was amazing. People spontaneously clapping to Soul Brothers Six - I'll be loving you also hearing one of his favourites Arthur Alexanders - I need you baby, as good as gets for me.

Jean Plum "back To You"
Love this thread, how could we forget the great O.V. Wright, scandalously underrated, up there with the best. Particularly love ' Without you' soul as it should be, genuinely sounds hurt!

Japanese / P-vine
It's a really tricky one the Japanese LPs. Not pressed up in great quantity originally and a lot of them are 20 years old. That said the Frankie Gearing, Harold Burrage-One derf ul, New Jersey groups etc have turned up recently on ebay, and not reached anything like the prices I thought they might. Not sure about P vine listing. Are you interested in any artists in particular? Best Mark

Jean Plum "back To You"
The great thing is most of the Hi catalogue has been re issued by Demon records. I've had a fantastic 6 volume Japanese vinyl set that I've had for near on 20years. On the subject of the Japanese fans, I think they should be given much more credit. When you think of the fantastic rare Lps such as Tommy Tate - Malaco album, Frankie Gearing, Eddie Giles- Alarm/Murco stuff, Clay Hammond etc. Thanks guys

Jean Plum "back To You"
All good stuff, seem to remember ' Mon Belle amour' getting plays many years back, also remember Ivor playing ' If this is heaven' by Ann Peebles. Love the Philip Mitchell' Little things' I used to play that one down the Village during my 'deadbeat spot' around 8pm before anyone got there

Jean Plum "back To You"
Hi girth, Yeah I know I get a little carried away with the Hi stuff, but it drives me when I hear people talking about £1000 tunes and they don't even own Quiet elegance records or Dells/Dramatics ' Love is missing from our lives' etc. It would be interesting to make Djs play a set from a box of cheapies now and again, just to get some balance
-
Jean Plum "back To You"
Just to add that if you like that sort of sound it's worth picking up a few cheapies from Quiet Elegance on Hi. 'Do you love me/ I'm afraid of losing you' is IMO one of the most underated soul records of it's type. There was also a cd by them which came out in about 1989 by Demon. Best Mark

Best Lead Singer?

More Debbie Taylor
Agree with all the comments on Debbie Taylor. The arista 7" is a must 'Just don't pay/ I don't wanna leave you, what a great double sider that is! Always had a soft spot for ' Second to none' from the album.

Gospel Dance
One of favourites is NYCC - Make every day, great dancer also Mighty Clouds of Joy - Truth will set you free, which used to get played at Blackpool weekenders in the early 90s.
-
Top Soul Lp
Fave soul albums Sam Dees - Show must go on and Sandra Wright - Wounded woman. It's a shame the Dees album doesn't have ' Signed miss heroin' on it.

Candi Staton
Hi Colin, Saw Candi Staton about 10 years ago at an obscure gospel gig in Kensington, vocally great but she was going through a 'born again' period. Missed her at the Jazz Cafe last time and heard she was terrific, done a lot of Fame stuff. Gigging this Sunday at Jazz Cafe in London, Sunday sold out (apart from Restaurant £40 Tickets still available for Monday. Mark

Full On, Mental, Northern Soul
Del Larks - Job opening, kitchen sink Northern, got the 'f***ing lot
-
Dells - Thinking 'bout You
Absolutely fantastic group, all of the songs mentioned so far are brillant. I love' Bring back the love of yesterday' and ' Love we had stayed on my mind'. Terry Jones used to always play Dells records at the Norfolk Village and was shocked not to see a track by them on the ' Village' cd. Also love 'Make sure'

A Few I Found On Me Floor,tonight
Bloody hell, had about 15 copies of this over 10 years ago, traded them all with Tim Brown. Subsidised my buying for about a year
