  1. Thanks Paul I was desperately trying to remember H.B.S whilst I was typing! Thats the one that seemed to be photocopied sheets stapled together, right? Tony
  2. Well Jack, whilst I am certainly no expert, and trying very hard not to come across as some pedantic old tw@t It depends on what you mean by "our scene". As the Soul scene kicked off in the sixties playing mainly( but not exclusively) UK releases, some obviously more obscure than others, the earliest mag would probably have been Home of the Blues which became Blues & Soul. In the seventies we got Black Music, Black Echoes, all of which were aimed at a wider market but still had interest for us. I would suggest that true fanzines had their birth during the mid seventies. I am sure that there are more knowledgable people on here who could give you more info. Over to you Mr. Rimmer?? Cheers Tony
  3. Oh fcuk me. It's not that friggin' Steve again is it???? Tony
  4. The only thing anything like was the reports done in Blues & Soul, and 1 issue was mainly about The Torch, printed either just before or just after the Major Lance Live Recording. If I think on I'll crawl in the loft and find me battered copy. Tony
  5. Weeell ,there is a single on Granite called Pain, but don't know what it's like. While we're on the subjct of fillums,The Five Heartbeats-there was some awesome tunes in that which didn't make it to the CD soundtrack. Did they come out anywhere else?? Tony

  11. Don't usually draw a blank from here. However 1 last try. Ronnie Walker--Now There Is You--Gala P-5202. Any info on rarity, value etc. because as I said can't believe it's listed in Manships Rarest of the Rare. Cheers Tony
  12. Hmmm no info yet ,it must be rarer than I thought. The only reason I'm asking is that I've just seen it on Manship's Rarest of the Rare section which gobsmacked me as I never thought that it was all that. Eee, every day another suprise Tony

  21. Errr, unfortunately I know him, we share a first name, but it ain't me!!! He's the one at the Ritz afew years back said"hey I know the bouncer, for a fiver each he'll let us in for nowt!" my other two both involve the upstairs cloakroom at Wigan where we used to go for a quiet natter. First-- Sat up there with Pete Tyldesley and a few others when Brian Leah bounces up the stairs 3 at time shouting "It's on! It's on!" "what's that??" aks Pete. "You're crack up mate" came the reply. You can guess the rest. Second--At the time there were some very strong backstreet blueys around ( not that I approve of course) rumoured to contain strychnine. Anyhow this guy is staring in the mirror for a long time. "wassup?" we enquire. " I feel weird" "What you had??" "Backstreets" "It's only the strychnine" I think he's still screaming. Tony

  24. I know time and chemical erasure have blurred the memory somewhat, but does anyone else remember Thelma Houston's version being played at old Wigwam?? Whenever I mention it ,nobody remembers. Presumably it was an lp only track, but what lp and how hard is it . Ta Tony
