Record Prices - The Truth
I've had problems with valuing tunes but thought it was 'cos I've been away for a while and was looking to sell stuff that maybe isn't played out any more. I've asked for valuations on here - seems much more accurate than say trolling ebay/pospike/gemm/Manships/Brady then trying to find a mean or 'average' if you like - then listed them at what I've been told, only to get a few PM's stating "it's not worth x but I'll give you y" Example is the Sonny Daye a few weeks back, had answers from £100-£200, so obviously, wanting to get as much vinyl as possible with sale funds I started high and it finally went for £100, which was disappointing but the only offer. Now people are obviously going to say that's its actual market value now, but I think Ken's right - at the end of the day it's all relative, and a £100 tune for some is a tenners worth to others (unfortunately I've only been selling to others ) I'm never going to be after the 'big money' tunes, many of which imho seem a bit overrated/overpriced (see Dave's start of thread ) it seems to me that as long as people pay too much for 'em, that will be the new market price forgotten where I was going with this now, I'll concentrate on me bangers & mash and maybe it'll come back.............

Charity Auction
No Mike, not taking the piss at all - fella's doing a charity auction for Cancer, seems quite a good idea to me, if you've any vinyl 'spare' or that wouldn't sell then send it his way and all the proceeds go to Cancer charity - I've a few of mine that I couldn't sell on here so they're on there now. Give it a try, makes you feel nice and tingly all over.......................

Another Ebay Story
Precisely - she probably realises that sellers are that little bit more reticent about taking things on now they've "lost their voice" I would seriously ask her out on it if your feedback can take it. After all, it's not as if you're pulling one last dodgy deal to retire on here, is it It's not the £3 odd, it's the principle

Another Ebay Story
If you're quite sure it was in good nick & well packaged and that she's trying to pull a fast one - and her refusal to return the CD (good album by the way ) seems to suggest she is - then f*** her. Take the hit on your feedback if it comes to that, at the end of the day if anyone decides not to buy from you 'cos of one dodgy feedback then it's probably a customer you can do without. Everyone who uses ebay should by now be wise enough to know there are dodgy customers as well as dodgy sellers, and the fact that ebay have taken away the right for sellers to leave negative feedback was always going to leave same sellers sh*tting themselves over losing their 100%. Tell her if she won't return it, you won't refund it, if not "f*** off and do your worst". Can sellers still respond to negative feedbacks? At least you could put yopur side of the story over & let people decide for themselves....?

Charity Auction
I think it's one of the organisers of this nighter who's also doing a charity sales auction for Cancer on his site - don't know if anybody on here knows about it but he's after any tunes you could do without - or even some sellable ones from the 'better-off' dealers/collectors on here - so if you've got anything for auction or are maybe after a bargain yourself the webpage is: https://www.northernsoulmusic.co.uk/charitysales.html Very good cause, most of us will know someone who has been or, God forbid will, be touched by it, and some good stuff on there

Just Bought This
Personally think it's good, would sound great played out through a proper system, just think the voice lets it down a bit during the chorus, bit weedy - Ray Pollard/Roy Hamilton at the front and it would've been a belter!

Vinyl Cutting/carving
S'good on here ennit? Still don't get what the arguing's about really - if you don't want to go to a do that's playing boots/carvers/re-issues/UK then don't go, if you want a carver for private do's or your own consumption then carve the b*st*rd and spin it out with your mates or boogie round the kitchen to it - and I'm certainly not going to flog 'em (well not to any of you lot anyway ) Would be interesting to see if everyone against them has any downloads of tunes they don't actually own on vinyl/CD That maybe they put on a compilation for the car? Any difference?

Vinyl Cutting/carving
Yeah, just playing Devil's advocate mischief (and maybe being a little fascetious too ) Point is I - and my mates - get turned on by vinyl, hence our playing of carvers if we can't get/afford the real thing at parties. I still don't really believe the 'harming or belittling the original artists' argument, hence don't see what harm I'm doing playing Steve Flannagan or Little Nicky Soul off a carver - I get to fill the floor with people who'd never heard them before, they get the buzz of dancing/hearing great new tunes that, who knows, might even turn them on to the real thing or the scene itself - everybody's happy!! I've been turned on to some great old Prestige/Blue Note jazz or Luv'n'Haight funk tunes in the meantime which I wouldn't have known otherwise. That's what it's all about really, isn't it?

Records That Make Your Heart Smile
Probably not played out any more but these have always done it for me for the last 20 years or so Eddie Holman - Night to remember Tyrone Barkley - Man of Value Evening cooking tunes are Festivals - Music Joe Stampley - Not too long ago Dynamics - Yes I love you baby Salvation - Robert Thomas Sad Face - Masters of Soul Carla Thomas - I'll never stop loving you - missus told me to put that on, apparently it makes her really happy and sad at the same tim

Vinyl Cutting/carving
And this is where it all becomes relative - "I would only get a vinyl carver if it's only ever released on CD and it's a really good record I like (..) and would love to play it out" - so that'd be a bootleg copy then? It all comes down to personal ethics, doesn't make any of us "right". You want to play it out 'cos you like it, I want a vinyl copy 'cos I like it, and me and me mates parties are vinyl only - we all like to have a pop. Why don't you play a CD at your do's? I'm no DJ, I just love the music - if I had a spare £500 I'd spend it on a holiday not a 7" circle of vinyl, it's not worth that to me - or my wife and kids, it's all relative, and they'd b*st*rd kill me if I spent that on a tune!!

Vinyl Cutting/carving
That's the problem these days, boots and pirates everywhere

Vinyl Cutting/carving
ever bought an album and only taped one track off it for the car!!! That's right mischief - and as you've kept the receipt you take it back and buy sommet else

Vinyl Cutting/carving
Hmm, this seems to be the emotive topic on here, and you either seem to be for or against 'em. I don't have a problem with using them privately, and no I'm not kidding myself at all. Like everyone else on here I'm a vinylphile (if that's the right word ) and CD's don't do it for me. Just not the same thing at all. On the other hand I'm married with 2 kids and can't afford to splash out up to a grand or more on tunes I really want (alright the missus would de-knacker me) so I'll have 'em carved - I'm no DJ, would only play em at private do's or in my kitchen, but still get the sensory pleasure of that vinyl playing that tune. As for royalties and copyright I'm not sure if the artists get a nice cut every time their tune gets played out at a night do they? Or anything at all if it's included on a new CD - they were proper shafted by most labels back in the day, would that have changed? OVO is fine at proper all/nighters, s'what you pay your money for in a way, but don't tell me I'm doing any more harm owning a carver than I was when chawed anything else - or has no-one else on here ever been on the chaw? It's all relative in the end, which is why it's such an emotive subject I s'pose - anyway, I'm off to beat the littl'un for nicking my chips at tea-time
