By jolly michael - I believe you're right! Never heard the album cut before - didn't even know there was one. Stumbled upon it whilst flitting about YouTube at random derek

Doh! Why Did I Sell That?
I remember me and Paul Hamer going over to Warrington one Saturday* to have a look through Geoff Whitfield's collection when he was selling up. Pulled out The Ivories and nearly had a fit when he told me the price. Sixty quid eh you're joking. Put it straight back and stomped off huffing and puffing. derek *date unknown possibly early nineties.

500,000 Records Need Re-Locating From Manchester Dealer
Cos I'm such a loose lay and have a high tolerance to nutballs especially when looking for vinyl I'll quite happily wade through overpriced stuff all day long. Been to lots of places in the states where every record's $20 but that just seems to make me look harder 'cos you know sooner or later you'll find summat thats $100 and with a sweet innocent smile you ask the price. His reply gives you that warm glow inside that makes it all worthwhile. derek

Anyone Dug In This Place In Manchester?
I nearly soiled mi panties when I saw all those pictures of records all over the place - there are some things which just get us records obsessives frothing. I was all set to jump in the car but then I read Glyn's assessment. Oh. derek But you know right in the back of your mind there's a little tiny voice saying "Mmm I wonder if...."

Another Big Collection With Very Little Info
Struth alot of people are very busy but come on - that's lazy selling at it's worst. He's got 650 records to sell starting at £5500 and he's hoping a couple of pictures of the record boxes will stimulate a mad rush of bids. If you're interested you've got to contact him - blimey he's not making it easy for himself is he? Oh well. derek

Doh! Why Did I Sell That?
Seem to have a vague recollection of dealing with some sort of latino bloke out of New Jersey mid eighties I guess. He would send me a hand written list every now and then of 45s he'd picked up to resell. On one occassion I got a bundle of 13 or so records from him - there was 1 tasty original** and the rest were oddball semi-known sort of cheapies. Me being me at the time - it was the mid eighties remember, Stafford was in full flow, tape swopping was a full time job and every collector seemed to be chasing mad semi-knowns - I decided to flog the original** to pay for the dozen cheapies I was keeping. In the end I think I got £35 for it which meant I'd got a dozen free 45s and summat like £15 to spend. Result! Move over Alan Sugar the big boys are in town.... I do chuckle to myself when I think back - but ultimately it's only vinyl and if that's you're only big regret in life, well done, me I've dropped a lot more bigger boll*cks than that in my time..... derek x ** GB "CLMH" (Smoke) ouch

Collecting Paper Sleeves
First done by The Del-Royals on Mercury in October 1969 then 10 years later Tyrone Barkley's version caused much excitement across dancefloors in the north of england and beyond. Seem to think Lou Rawls had a go at the song on Capitol - he might have even done it first - but haven't heard it or know where it fits in the timeline of releases. Before you die you need to hear The Del-Royals superb rendition. derek x

Don't often see this one - because of the labels distribution with Warner Brothers I assume this sleeve came with the later releases on Loma. derek x

Derek Pearson & Mick Howard Sat 28Th Jan 21:00-22:00Pm
Saturday 28th January 21:00-22:00pm Derek Pearson & special guest DJ Mick Howard Bradford Community Based Radio BCB106.6FM Tonight's guest across the airwaves of Bradfordland and beyond, is the man from Heywood, Mister Mick Howard, who rightly pointed out it was near enough 12 months ago since he was last on BCB. Once again, he'll lift the lid off his record box and we'll see and hear what delights he pulls out from the depths of his collection. As usual I'll fill in with some crackly vinyl and tons of witty banter (sort of). Fasten your seat belts and await 60 minutes of the good groove. It could go anywhere and often does. Expect the weird. Expect the wonderful. And as usual if you're interested in hearing the show live there's 2 ways to go about it - first try the good old 106.6FM frequency on your radio if you live within roughly 10 miles of the studio and secondly through the wonders of the world wide web www.bcbradio.co.uk Onwards, Derek All Era's. All styles. All over the place. From under Mick Howard's hat came these twelve: Patti Austin "You're too much a part of me" Coral E. Rodney Jones "Peace of mind" Tuff Fabulous Emotions "Number one fool" Nico Timothy Wilson "Loving you" Buddah The Salem Travellers "Tell it like it is" Checker The Ambassadors "I need someone" Uptown Gary Brown "Spoiled child" Brownie Shirley Brown "Yes sir brother" Stax E.T.White "Got to find a true love" Great Potential Charlotta Tillman "Baby I'm serious" Josie Manny Corchado "Pow Wow" Frankie and The Damons "The man from soul" JCP Dee Pee's random selection of eight crackly vinyl 45s: Willie Parker "I've got to fight it" M-Pac Superlatives "Don't let true love die" Westbound Eddy Giles "Losin' Boy" Murco Sunlover's "My poor heart" Mutt & Jeff Melvin Davis "This love was meant to be" Mala Lee Moses "Bad Girl (Part 1)" Musicor NewSounds "Better you never thought" Mod-Art ©1974 Eddie Horan "The Ups and Downs of a love affair" MGM ©1974

The M.b.s. - Face Facts / Just Say Hello - B-Jet Any Info?
Hi Benji - I flogged a copy in VG nick last September on Ebay for £32. Hoped it would go for more purely because of its rarity - soundwise I'd describe "Face Facts" as a quirky OK midpacer, whilst "Hello" is more ballad orientated. Here's a YouTube clip of "Hello" taken off what sounds like a pretty poor condition copy Hope this helps derek

Chuck Bernard - Bessie Girl On Zodiac

Newsound "bet You..." On Scorpion
I know you requested a copy on Scorpion and I'm sure you know "Bet you never thought about it" also came out on Mod Art which is much easier to locate. I have a copy of the Mod Art 45 that I'd be willing to sell if you want it. derek

Collecting Paper Sleeves
Many records that we chase were issued by labels that only managed to release in many cases less than half a dozen singles. The life span of the label was often very short and greatly depended on one of their opening releases selling in some sort of number. Money would have been tight, just releasing the record would have been an achievement in itself for many, so wrapping them in a company sleeve would have been way down on their wish list. So it's quite unusual and a great bonus to find paper sleeves from the much smaller companies. De-vel Records was another short lived - less than 6 releases - label that operated out of New York City circa 1973. Keni Lewis, Jackie Milton and Madeline & the Monticellos spring to mind. Stunning is the word I'd use

The Girls and Ollie Nightingale spring to mind.
