  1. Cheers John I have the Deon Jackson on the 4-prongued format. Cheers Richard
  2. Can anyone give me the key tips for opening up a decent YouTube account and on how to post up good quality vids please? Vids means records. I have as raw materials label scans taken from records and MP3 or other format soundfiles taken from records. What do I need to know please? I would like my posts to be decent quality - authentic material only - not like some of the sh*te on there Thank you! Richard
  3. I really rate this track as a great example of Detroit R&B. Not rock & roll R&B - Northern R&B - the horns are so distinctive It's on Johnnie Mae Matthews Northern records and the issue is a hard one Cheers Richard
  4. ON NOW FOLKS Tulip Radio - 7- 9pm. Two hours of fabulous soul music and decent banter www.tulip-radio.co.uk Or use the TuneIn app on your phone. Cheers Richard
  5. Not seen that before Pete. Looks interesting. Difficult to tell from the video but the print, label design etc looks later style to me. The record initially was very early 60s. Have you messaged Chris who posted the YouTube vid? Cheers Richard
  6. But Bernard Williams is a Harthon thing out of Philadelphia. How is that spacey Detroit soul? Not sure the spacey thing transcends the genders either. If I can think of a spacey male Detroit thing I will let you know. Actually what about these (off the top of my head) all off the Souk Hawk label ... New Holidays "Maybe So, Maybe No", or the Mighty Lovers "Ain't Gonna Run No More", or the Third Party "Such Soul Says"? Cheers Richard
  7. Thanks Paul - very helpful - appreciate the info - spot on Cheers Richard
  8. Doh! you're sure right there Sean. It was Soul City Tired when I wrote it - and was confused by the similar pink coloured label I guess. That said, the question still applies to both records/labels - why the two different pressings and does it make a difference? Cheers Richard
  9. Is it the Pye, Oriole, EMI, Decca etc, pressing plants thing? I know nothing about UK releases. Cheers Richard
  10. Come on!! - where are all the anoraks when you need them Cheers Richard
  11. Tim Brown sold a copy of Friends on UP on ebay a couple of days ago. He listed it as a Detroit record. Is this the source perhaps of the Detroit claim? Have not associated this as a Detroit record myself. Cheers Richard

  13. Hi everyone Anorak question UK collecting is not my thing, so I just wondered if there was any difference, from a collecting point of view, to the UK Contempo-raries depending on whether they are pressed with a solid centre or a push out four-prong centre please? Couple of examples I know of that are on both formats are Chris Jackson - I'll Never Forget You [subsequently corrected that this was on Soul City - but there are solid and 4-pronged versions on that label also] and Deon Jackson - Love Makes The World Go Round. However, for all I know, every Contempo-raries release might have come out on both formats. Anyone fill me in on the details please? Cheers Richard
  14. This one? https://www.scottishwidows.co.uk/plan/ Matt & Faye's Story

Yes, there are definitely a few mid-tempo things in there. This thread was surely supposed to be about the superfast records - faster than the "normal" stomping Northern Soul tempo Cheers Richard
  16. Rod Have you considered doing this using the "poll" function Richard
  17. F**k me ... Velvet hammer,,happy,,sevens great oldie top dancer very in demandNice uk reissue cond ex post £2 labell as shown
  18. Nobody has - the auction is in USD and is at $405. That is equivalent to around GBP £247. They might pay more than £300 - but it hasn't happened yet
  19. Same tune, different version. Sent you a PM soulstylist Cheers Richard
  20. Would seem likely
  21. Fakes are fakes, are fakes ... Real deal is the real deal ... Authentic is authentic ... Cheap copy is ... You get the picture - I unsympathetically put tailor made records for the "Northern Scene" in the same category as a fake Rolex watch, fake Louis Vuitton bag, or counterfeit Adidas trainers Not my cup of tea. Cheers Richard
  22. DICKIE WONDER - NOBODY KNOWS (SOUND OF SOUL 5002) ** DEMO ** The Cameo Parkway distributed copy with girlie backing vocals. Price is £325 please. Very nice copy - carefully graded at VG+. Label scan and photo from actual record for sale, along with a soundfile. Slight noise just on bongos intro which then disappears completely. 24. Can we guess what it is I wonder? I think it must be Little Ann - Lean Lanky Daddy on Kent Cheers Richard
  25. The record sounded like a tailor made from the word go. Tailor made records stick out a mile to my ears. The production isn't authentic. They are made with modern technology which sounds different. The lyrics are often not right - words and phrases that would not have been used in black American music in the 60s or 70s. Plus the structure of the songs isvoften too obvious and cliched. Have always disliked Levine's stuff. Just look at the awful 'fake' drumming he dubbed onto all those tracks on the SWONS video. Cheers Richard
