  1. Option 1) Hasn't clocked the edge chip = No Option 2) Needs their head examined = Yes
  2. Unreal - the record is unplayable in any meaningful sense - whoever pays a shed-load of money for it and then plays it out is surely going to get the mickey taken out of them? Cheers Richard
  3. That Reggie Milner is a lovely tune Cheers Richard
  4. Yes, of course there's a 'lorra lorra' things we could play instead Cheers Richard
  5. Cilla Says... Cilla Black is a woman with more catch phrases than Tommy Cooper. Not only are her words memorable but her dulcet tones (?), 'interesting' pronunciation and addition of letters invisible to the normal eye make her one of Britain's best known voices. Cilla's Top Five Catchphrases: "And here’s our Graham with a quick reminder." "Surprise, surprise it's Cilla here." "What’s your name and where d’ya come from?" "Lorra lorra laughs" "Do I need to buy a new hat?"
  6. All replies much appreciated - thanks guys So thinking about a couple I have then, as examples, would I be best having mono versions on the Hesitations - Soul Superman and the Metros - Sweetest One LPs? I think I have mono and stereo of both those - plus both formats on things like the Platters - Going Back To Detroit. Basically, if I was to let one go, would I keep the mono or stereo? Keeping the mono looks like the best option by the sounds of it Cheers Richard

"Top hole" old chap! I hate queueing for anything these days Richard
  8. One of those records that divides opinion. I think a record that people love to say they hate I quite like it - but I think the tune is a bit obvious, a bit clichéd. Cheers Richard

    What a very British topic
  10. Thanks guys So it sounds like stereo for the house and mono for playing out then - so got to have both! Cheers Richard
  11. Here's the track. Anyone got any thoughts on the questions above please? Cheers Richard Jackie Harris - Don't Worry 'Bout De Back Door (Inter/Soul 102 A) https://soundcloud.com/user1502162/jackie-harris-dont-worry-bout
  12. Hi Benji Thanks - but what makes mono better for playing out please? Cheers Richard
  13. Just found this on Soundcloud ... have a listen to what it sounds like This is the actual copy for sale on eBay with the broken intro Cheers Richard https://soundcloud.com/peoplesrecordsdetroit/margaret-little
  14. Hi everyone When there is a choice about buying a stereo or mono version of a '60s album (e.g. Hesitations 'Soul Superman' LP) are there any general rules about which format is considered more desirable in terms of quality or collectability? I would have thought stereo, but sometimes I see comments suggesting that mono is better and the preferred choice. Interested in any thoughts on this, and the reasons why please. Cheers Richard
  15. Imagine when Brad found that one ... heart racing as he recognised the label - the overwhelming excitement of finding a mega rarity ... only to be followed by the devastating crash of disappointment when he found there was a chunk missing out of the vinyl Cheers Richard
  16. Sorry if I'm going to insult anyone on here - but ... lots of people live their lives like 'sheep' - they follow what other people do, rather than finding their own way ... they need to follow, not lead ... and need to be told what to like, rather than decide for themselves Those 'sheep' that have money and are into Northern'' hang on the words of other people who know their stuff ... as John surely does ... and he has a truly compelling sales patter too - probably the best on the scene ... the 'sheep' are sucked in and bid high - as a 'sheep' would! Patty Stokes - about £200 less than his last one, but still an amazing price IMO. Might sell mine ... 'Sheep' also don't put in the hard graft - they want it easy - so need to pay more Go your own way ... don't be a 'sheep' (sorry to any 'sheep' I may have offended) Richard
  17. Excerpt from the Golden World Story on Soulful Detroit (thanks Soulful Detroit!): Barbara had formerly been with a group by the name of the Styletts (sic) who recorded briefly for the Pillar label. Cheers Richard
  18. Wasn't Barbara Mercer also in the Sty-letts on PIllar (Sandy & Sty-letts on REM)? Cheers Richard
  19. Hi Soulsourcers Just a reminder that Dean's brilliant TNT Soul Show is on the radio tonight 7:00-9:00hrs Tune in folks for some great soul music and a few laughs! Online www.tulip-radio.co.uk Or on your smart phone using the TuneIn radio app Cheers Richard
  20. Hi everyone I've puzzled over the Jackie Harris release "Don't Worry 'Bout De Back Door" on Inter/Soul #102. This came out in 1974 according to the label. I always thought it strange that this was released so late in the day, given that it has a real mid-60s sound. It was of course previously released by Jackie Harris on Chess #1946 but titled "No Kind Of Man" - around 1965. The tracks seem at least similar, if not identical. Anyone got any more info please, and can anyone explain the strange 9-year gap between the two releases, or the change of song title and credits? Plus, was it recorded in Chicago, Detroit, or elsewhere? Cheers Richard
  21. Thanks guys for all the info - great stuff "Mama Please" - that explains why I couldn't find anything on "Let my Boyfriend Stay". Cheers Richard
  22. Good man Steve - much appreciated mate. Cheers Richard
  23. On Golden World it has always interested me that she is called Barbra Mercer not Barbara I guess the fact she was (sometimes) a bit of a Diana Ross soundalike maybe didn't help her career - but when you listed to "Call On Me" it's clear to me who is the real star Cheers Richard Barbara Mercer - Call On Me (Barry 3484X B) https://soundcloud.com/user1502162/barbara-mercer-call-on-me
  24. Can't quite work out if you're going off on one here. We all love the record mate. Richard
