  1. Jive five, not rare but a great Wylie/Hester tune: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=81q5E1_p1jU
  2. Nice one, loads of good stuff on the "Boy Meets Girl" duets album: The Admirals - Got You On My Mind V-125:
  3. Great stuff like the Gizelle version of I'm a Good Woman Nice One ! Mick
  4. Stax/Volt the best of the Companies Xover and Northern Soul Releases: Though I guess someone must have done this before, having recently developed an infatuation with the old Kent "Crossover" and "Let's crossover again" CD's,I hoped to garner some interest from the forum, in opening our eyes and ears to more great tracks from this Company's stable of labels. It's a bit of a disappointment that Volume 3 in this series never materialised, perhaps due to Kent loosing the licensing arrangement? So if you've got a Stax stable crossover or northern track you think is the DB's, please share it here: Kicking off with: Charlene & The Soul Serenaders Volt 0052:
  5. If anyone fancies buying a yellow copy EX, feel free to PM me. Thanks Mick
  6. All great tunes from David Ruffin to Geno Washington. As tunes are played in fashion and then maybe fall out of favour, it goes to show how much potential there is across the scene. Great stuff everyone. Merry Christmas to all!!
  7. Despite its title I've always liked this, was it ever played at the Wheel ? Ben E King Teeny Weeny Little Bit Atco
  8. Heavy on the soul & brilliant crossover: Carla Thomas - Love amongst people:
  9. Beautiful tune! Bid on it a few times without any luck. Nice One!
  10. Debbie Jacobs, I think that that I'm fallin: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hMk3a5o9XYE Nicely arranged piece!
  11. Sadly for me an obvious Supremes take off. Trade Martin* production is interesting. Not heard it before though! There's only the ones you like and the ones you don't. Mick *I take it that folk are familiar with Trade Martin's highly political "ground zero" protest effort? Wouldn't want to get into that one really.
  12. Great stuff on this page again. Must start lookin for a proper job sos I got somethin' better to do. Keep it up folks. On the Soul tip... This terrific crossover version, by Brenda and Tabulations of "Walk on By" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GWxwdjkzOTo Hot Sauce, "Bring it Home" on Vault Records:
  13. There's an article in Tim Brown's Rare Soul Review Issue 3 P39, I think written by Rod Dearlove. Quote: "The record was picked up by the ubiquitous Independent Record Distributing Association of Nashville but only as a double 'A' sided promo (Spellbound is the 'B'side). Two years later in 1977 Everett re-recorded the tune under his real name of Frank Moor for Exochronos Recordings of St.Louis, not too different but with an updated production that isn't so good". By shear coincidence having seen a Big Smokey copy on 't bay the other day , I happened to browse this article from a few years back. As it happens my copy came from Voices many years ago now, though it was tipped for big things it never quite happened. Popsike values here.
  14. As one who doesn't have the cash to support such elitist views I can't believe you'll get anything but support from the wider scene. Been listening a lot to the old Kent/Stax Crossover/Let's Crossover again CD's, opening a new page in my love of this music. The new Masterpieces Vol 3 - a beautifully compiled piece of work. Would have though it an honour to contribute. Good luck & thanks! Mick
  15. Marvin Gaye & Kim Weston from the 1966 William Stephenson produced "Take Two" album: "Love Fell on Me" , written by Sylvia Moy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGLkaFIWuEg
  16. Might have been covered eleswhere but try Friday,Saturday & Sunday click to listen
  17. RE:FRIDAY, SATURDAY & SUNDAY- There Must Be Something -DIG #296 "There Must Be Something" is a record I've always had a great liking for, though it also seems to be in demand on the bay for the "sister funk" flip; "Hot Potato". A neat Clarence Reid & Willie Clarke production, it appears to have been released on at least three label designs, one of which was clearly Stax distributed. This record is a nice lilting crossover tune that like many, was common at record bars about 10 years back. There Must Be Something: Here's the record ebay values at Popsike For the latest ebay copy US $269.99 ONO See here: Does anyone know the reason why the value of this, which used to be quite common, has lifted? Mine happens to be one of the orange ones, picked up for £10 from Beatin Rythm for a tenner, a number of years back. I nearly sent it back has it unfortunately has an edge warp, causing the needle to jump without a weight on the stylus. Soulful lyrics go................ "there must be something I can say, to make you look my way, there must be something I can do, to make you love me too, you have aroused my desire, my soul is on fire for your sweet love and tenderness, you lead me on and then you turn to stone, leaving me with loneliness, your girl I'd gladly be, if you just sock a little guitar to me ..(neat guitar break ensues)" Any info or discussion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Mick
  18. MOTOWN LP TRACKS A couple of lesser known: A nice club tune from Junior Walker, "The Things I Do", from Home Cookin: (someone's gonna say this came out on a 45) Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, "The Hurt is Over" from Time Out For: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrS3rbikn8k
  19. Marvin Gaye "so Long" from That's the way love Is, a classy album: The Monitors:"serve yourself a cup of happiness" from the "Greetings we're the":
  20. From a CD, could be the anthology or cellar full of motown. See Ian Levine's You Tube post for more details and images of Kim from the Strange World DVD:
  21. Also from the Love Child LP: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rEaywZ26_xg Fans do go to a lot of trouble with these excellent Youtube postings. PS Following the demand created at The Torch and Cats, Tell Me It's Just A Rumer was released in the UK on a 45, though it was originally played from LP I believe.
