Got a soft spot for Sweet Little Girl by Winfield Parker. Never heard it played out - anyone else know this groovy little cheapie?

My fave guitar lick? The two guitars that make up the sublime intro to the Spinners, It's A Shame. No idea who played, but would love to find out. It's one of my top ten records of all time. Yes, it was a massive hit, yes you've heard it a zillion times, but try and hear it once with fresh ears; the whole thing is a masterpiece - and those jangly guitars playing that unforgettable riff set it up sooooo nicely We don't associate lead or rhythm guitar with soul too much. Funny really, coz I'm hard pushed to think of a soul record without a guitar in there somewhere. The Impressions 60's stuff always had some very tasteful playing; possibly Curtis himself. Gypsey Woman springs to mind. So old, so charming, never get tired of it. Colin

Not a mega rarity but a lucky find nonetheless; just picked up a lovely copy of Soul Bro's Six, You Better Check Yourself in a charity shop It's a US Atlantic red and white Demo and plays lovely. How much more than 20 pence is that worth these days? Thanks Dayo

Sure was released in the UK; originally on Pye International 25371. Probably ona few re-issues too. Not sure if it made the charts, maybe lower reaches. Good choice.

Spinners - right up there! Wasn't really thinking of danceability - just soul content. But, Move On Up must be one of the most soulful records to grace the charts.

Sandra and Andres - Give It Up - UK Phillips. Pure pop, awful record, Dutch or Belgian bubblegum from around 1970. But there's just something about the arrangement that vaguely hints at Northern. God, I'll admit it then, I actually like it. Be amazed if anyone else even knows it though.

Fab track Pete, but did it actually scrape the charts? Fair play to the British public if it did.
