Do You Have Enough Money To Be A Top Northern Soul Dj?
Interesting topic for me. I am an American and have only been collecting soul 45s for about 10 years. I simply can't compete for the big records (don't have enough money and don't want my wife to murder me in my sleep for spending our retirement on records). Instead, I have spent my time spending in the 20-100 dollar range. There seem to be plenty of records in that range that are awesome and relatively unknown or underplayed. For example, I bought "baby don't play around" by Leona Dunn on Hallmark for 10 bucks. Sounds awesome and fresh to me! You may see my threads on here in which I get more experienced soul collectors to give "cheap as chips" suggestions. That's all I can (or my wife will let me) spend! Since I don't spin for "soulsters" (but folks that just want to drink beer and dance in a neighborhood bar), this is fine. Sometimes I lament the fact that no one appreciates my "big" records (which for me is like a 100 dollar record), but then again, I am under no pressure to bankrupt myself.

Love Is Like An Itching... Funk Bros Instr
i would then have to buy a CD player! that may be too hi-tech for me. (kind of a dinosaur)

Love Is Like An Itching... Funk Bros Instr

James Brown
best James Brown instrumental IMHO is "James Brown's boogaloo" (Smash 2042) from 1966 (not to be confused with "New Breed Part 1 /The Boo-Ga-Loo" Smash 2028 from the same year) other greats are: King 6037 - I've Got Money King 5952 - Think King 5701 - Three Hearts In A Tangle

Sacred Four On Ebay
that is great that it turned out to be in such good condition (i actually was the opening bidder on that record but dropped out early). i recently bought an 'endeavors' 45 on ebay ("i know you don't want me" on stop) that the seller listed as "G-" (which i normally think of as being unlistenable) for a couple bucks... turned out to just have some writing on the label and plays VG++!

What Should I Do In London?
awesome! thanks! i am hoping to stay for over a week and make it up north by train to see/do whatever is soulful. i really know nothing about the geography of england (typical american). i am still laboring under the impression that everything outside of london looks like "All Creatures Great and Small" or one of the weekend parties from "Jeeves and Wooster". really looking forward to exploring!

What Should I Do In London?
I've never been to England before, but have just been told I am going to a conference in London on Mar 31st (thursday). I think I will take some vacation days and stay a bit! I'd like to attend as many soul things as possible. I really like 1960s stuff (including R&B and early funk as well as soul), but not as into 1970s or later. any suggestions would be awesome! I'll be staying at/near King's College. Thanks!

Anyone Want A Stack Of Free Cardboard Mailers?
i buy lots of records, but never sell. therefore i am always recycling tons of nice cardboard mailers. if any one wants to pay for shipping (probably a couple of dollars) i could send them to you. i feel bad because it seems a waste to recycle them when they could be used again (these ones are all nice and stiff - i toss the trashed ones). maybe silly, but thought i'd offer before my wife forces me to dump them! right now i have about 50 (so not enough for a serious dealer - but maybe a casual one) (i live in california, so probably would only make sense for someone in america as overseas shipping would be too much) mods - not sure where this goes. feel free to move it.

1000 Lp's You Must Hear Before You Die
Jackie Moore - 'sweet charlie babe' (really love "playing both ends against the middle") Howard Tate - 'get it while you can' (all the great songs are singles, but its still so good to hear all the way through!) James and Bobby Purify - 'the pure sounds of...' (it has my favorite version of 'soothe me', which i don't think is released as a single?) Detroit Emeralds - 'i'm in love' (the track "so long" is a great sunday morning tune)

Brown Eyed Devil - Beggar Of Love
