  1. He wrote the song with Joe Hunter and arranged/produced it with Joe. He worked at all sorts of early Detroit labels like MAHS, KeKe, Velvet Sound etc I had two copies of the acetates (I wouldn't be surprised if Mick's came from me too) and all were acetate not vinyl. There is a totally different mix which is harsher but with an accentuated beat, so better for dancers, which we will put out on a Kent 45 soonish.
  2. I had it from master tape, I've never seen an acetate
  3. That's a good read. I went to visit my sister at Manchester Uni in 1967 (got to see Cream live at the Uni for 6 shillings) and she hung out with a lot of the mods and reckoned there was a big Jewish contingent, as there had been in the early London scene. Does anyone remember that aspect?
  4. There you go people Mark Freeman it is and congratulations; especially pleasing because he was coming down just to enjoy himself. Now we can't charge him on the door though. I didn't think this through, Rob's gonna be in tears. Well done Mark, I'll sort DJ times out a minute before the doors open, or pm me if you have special needs. Ady PS Thanks to everyone for taking part in this bit of fun, Sian's gonna get mithered by Kenny for letting Dave pip him to second place; so it's all been worthwhile!
  5. Brilliant It's lucky Randy didn't know about this, he'd be on the train to Nottingham!
  6. Well thought out Robb, I would just add that it is very doubtful that Dave knew anything about it as the writer credits have been changed and Dave knew nothing of them when Gilly & Tats asked him. Maybe Dave Thorley's interview with McKinley which is temporarily inaccessible, mentions it. If only Jerry Long was on the credits, then we'd know what happened! I'll ask Darrell Goolsby again and see if he has any ideas. Ady
  7. 3 minutes to go if you wanna get the Peterboro peril on the roster!
  8. Don't forget this finishes at the silly time of 8.58 am tomorrow so "speak now or forever hold thy peace" St Paul's letter to the Corinthians if my English teacher was correct.
  9. Thanks people and of course Jerry Long was well involved with Mel, Loma, Kent Harris, Bit and all sorts of shenanigans.
  10. They only do it to wind me up! Ta
  11. As this is another Jerry Long production, do we know if either side is a backing track used elsewhere? On You Tube someone reckons Bright Lights sounds very similar to an unissued Vandellas track, We'll Be Together sounds a bit like Ty Karim's I Ain't Lying on Roach.
  12. Does Can It Be Me exist on Astranaut? Manship's has it for £20 but I can't remember seeing it. It's meant to be part 1 & 2.
  13. Wow, that's wild. Jerry Long was a hell of a shyster! He should have hung out with Soussain; maybe he did.
  14. Nice one Sean and as I suspected one of RCA's own as opposed to the publisher's copies that I got via Millbridge/GWP (not that Roy H had owt to do with that)
  15. 2 days to go and there's a clear favourite but still time for someone to come up on the inside leg Keb voters and Tony Smith voter can re-vote and it's still possible to have a late entry if you so wish
  16. The club was called the Frollockin' Kneecap and had been there since 1968, I saw Brenton Wood, Blossom Toes, Ferris Wheel, Keef Hartley, Dantallian's Chariot (Zoot Money), Brenton Wood and the best of all the Family 3 times, once with Fairport Convention jamming; about 700 in for that one! It was only called the Lantern for the all nighters, it was running the night the Wheel closed and Martyn Ellis and chums all came down, blocked with nowhere to go. My mate Wes from Rothwell stashed 20 blues behind the drainpipe and when I came back on the Monday they were still there, so I had 'em.
  17. For the Macc lads
  18. One of Donna's Xmas presents, courtesy of Dave Flynn

  20. He didn't fancy it last time after we'd printed 5000 flyers with his name on
  21. I don't think any of these apart from S&A have DJed Xfire before. Any suggestions, volunteer them.
  22. Two drop outs due to prior commitments, more candidates to come!
  23. The rest of the DJs are Sean Chapman, Roger Stewart, Val Palmer and the incredible Harboro Horace Keb can't do it, he's booked so I'll give all his votes to the best briber; only kidding, they're all being questioned by the police in Wapping
  24. Two new names added by recommendation Ady
