Ebay Private Feedback
he was telling me stuff was rare and tunes were classics and as he was a well known dj from a big soul event , i believed him . it wasnt until i tried to trade some stuff back to him and then my friends dad looked at what he had sold me that i realised he was just dumping his stuff that noone else wanted on me , telling me they were classics dancers etc some of the tunes were good but i paid well over the odds not knowing , so he got me for quiet abit of cash but he then lost all business

Ebay Private Feedback
seeing peoples feedback is useful , i found out that a dealer was buying stuff from the states for very little and ripping me off on the stuff he was selling to me as i was new to collecting , i only found his id by chance as we were both bidding on the same 45. i know that its a dealers job to make money but this was before price guides and before i found the forums but it made me think twice about using him and in the end i stopped private feedback can look dodgy but i have always got on ok with sellers , most use it as they sell and buy on the one account

Bootleg Guide
the other thing to remember is the website of vinyl carvers do not pay over 10 pounds for an obvious bootleg as you can get your own 45 made from them most tunes that were bootlegged are available on cds in great quality so the 45 you get made will sound better than some dodgy bootleg made from a copy of the 45 in the 70s theres no point in paying over the odds for a poor sounding copy as you can get a mint sounding one made cheaply , if its not the original it is still a copy doesnt matter when it was made 70s ,80s , yesterday etc if you are just collecting for yourself then its fine to get these done but please nobody turn this into a bootleg v original playing thread

Records
most of the classics are available on cd nowadays either via goldmine or kent also there are alot of friendly people on this site who can help you with mp3s so if you are not totally sure of the tracks you can get a version before parting with serious cash. first thing to do is get a copy of the bootleg guide so you dont get stung on ebay or from any dealer trying it on as you may be new to buying vinyl also find a dealer that you can trust , i have known dealers who have priced records up more because you have sent them a wants list compaired to the normal price from sales boxes etc

Bit Of Advice Needed
it also depends on what grading structure the people use i only use the one from record collector magazine , everyone has different ideas on what is vg g ex mint etc and people put alot of +s infront etc one mans ex record is anothers vg were they graded on apperance , sight , playable etc the best way is to try and go through paypal as goods not how they were meant to be , but if other people who bought similar lots said they were happy then you may have a job prooving it

If You Were New To The Scene
ive been going to local nights for a couple of years , although most of the time i know what the tracks are as they mainly play the classic oldies i still find myself hounding anyone within earshot occasionally asking what the track being played is i usually get told "you must know this its a classic oldie etc " so one mans classic played oldie can be another persons new discovery but id usually sooner sit through an hour of total tripe and hear one track that i really like that i havent heard before than an hour of stuff that i already know why cant people mix it up abit during their set
