What's Acceptable In A Dj Box?
Quite right , playing a set with entirely boots is totally wrong , its as bad as playing CDs but what is wrong in a DJ mixing one or 2 re issues in a set of originals. There is nothing wrong with this in my opinion. I could name 10 re issues off the top of my head in my collection I would gladly mix in (maybe one or 2 in a hour set) with a set of orignals.

What's Acceptable In A Dj Box?
I have a collection which consists of many original records and a few boots and re issues and have no problem with listening to or playing either out.Mixing in a few re issues with originals is no problem to me. My biggest problem is some of the same old shit and crap which should not be played at soul nights in my opinion. I would rather listen to a set of quality soul music and if the DJ plays a couple of boots so what!!

Apparently Trevor all original copies (not many) have some sort of skip or jump which was done in production.I bought a copy of this off a flea market around 10 years ago for 20p and listened to it many times and convinced myself it had the fault which it didnt really have. As for vinyl boots cant help on that one. Craig.

Yes thats the seller. I thought I'd upset him by paying just $4.00 for the record. Whats your excuse?

Ive recieved records packed in strange ways but todays has to be the worst. A 45 arrived from the States in a mailing envelope wrapped up in an adult incontence pad! It was wrapped around the record and sealed with the sticky things on the sides. The only good things where that the record was undamaged and the pad was un-used.Anyone else had records packed like this? What sort of feedback do I leave now?

Dee Dee Warwick - When Love Slips
I agree a great double sider although I think House of gold is the stronger side. Her sister Dionne even admitted Dee Dee was the better singer of the two. Another worth a listen by Dee Dee is Dont you ever give up on me on Mercury 72738.Cheap and a great flip too.

Ebay - How Low Can You Go?
I remember him Pete he was areal tosser , allways had large unsorted soul and other collections and sealed Lps (by himself) for auction and blamed most of his negs on rival sellers. All his positives were for selling milk vouchers for $0.01 each! He got kicked of Ebay some time ago , probably trading under a different name now.

Sonny Stitt
- Sonny Stitt
Awesome record part 1 & part 2 , side 2 bieng the better version and deserves plays. Fantasic saxaphone version of this classic 45. Sonny Stitt was essentially a Jazz artist but recorded a couple of 45s for the Wingate label.Another worth a listen is Concerto for Jazz lovers.- Last Threee Before Eight
On the subject of Helena Ferguson I've got a Compass demo copy of I'm so glad. Any ideas on value anyone? Back to the thread my favorite ender has got to be Wade in the water by Ramsey Lewis. Play something slow as the penultimate record , switch the lights on and play this and watch the full dancefloor reaction to this.- Unsung Soul Artists Or Groups
Agree with you totally in what you are saying Brett but a lot of these artists who never made the big time died penniless and deserved greater rewards for their talents . Daryl Banks did'nt even have a headstone on his grave until recently and Little Anne died while waiting for a liver transplant just to name a couple. Just a tragic shame a lot more of these did'nt make the big time but thats life I suppose.- Ebay New Fees

Been thinking about this today while listening to some Barbara Mercer tracks and can't understand why with such a fantastic voice she never was one of the major stars.I know politics played a major part in things but some artists never had the recognition they fully deserved. Heres a few with tremendous voices that should of made it big but didn't for some some reason or other. Jack Montgomery. Frank Polk. Little Ann. Who else in your opinion never got the recognition they deserved?- I Have Faith In You
Well Ive just counted them and theres 43 figures in the one photo (not 10) and 5 sheep in the other photo (not 23)- Marvin Or Nick. When I Feel The Need
Just out of interest following the Edwin - Donni debate thought I would put up a poll of who did the better version of When I feel the need. I am probably in the minority but I feel Nick Ashfords is the better version of the two. Here are the 2 versions. Judge for yourself https://www.soulclub.org/stream/Marvin_Gaye...el_The_Need.ram - Marvins. https://the.soulclub.org/stream/Nick_Ashfor...el_The_Need.ram - Nicks- 45's In My Box
3 that Ive been hammering on my decks at home the last couple of days. 1. Think it over - BB King- Bluesway. Wait till that sax kicks in! 2. Sho nuff (got a good thing going) - JJ Jackson - WB. Awesome. 3. Gladys - Love - O Gee- A million dollar sound for peanuts.- Frank Wilson Find
Right then , how many toffees are there in the jar or in other words how much will this collection fetch if its not withdrawn. Heres my effort for a laugh. $62 , 000.- Frank Wilson Find
The thing I find hard to work out if this is true is why you would want to broadcast the fact you had found 50 copies. If i was in the position of finding that many I would stay very tight lipped about it and feed them out at a rate of one a year to give me some sort of decreasing income , who knows what the first one might fetch (or the last if i lived to be 94! 50p by then probably) , not job them all in at $300.00 each if this is the case.- Supremes
"Talkin bout Flo! cant stop playin her ABC outing "Love Aint Love" at the mo.... " Flip this over if you have the abc 45 and listen to Forever faithful , as good if not better than Love aint love. - Sonny Stitt
