  1. Those "Complete Motown Singles" CD box-sets which includes the a-sides and b-sides of ALL singles on the related labels plus differing local/national mixes and which will run up to 1972 or 1973 are quite OK with me as far as Motown releasing stuff. Sure, there's unissued stuff in the vaults, but it would be nice to just have everything that WAS released available in some format. This goes a long way in my opinion. By the way, these boxes can now be ordered from https://www.amazon.co.uk at absolute bargain prices, all of them are worth picking up: https://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=sr_st/202-54...p;x=14&y=13
  2. There's lots of great stuff on those labels! There are some 125+ releases on Charay alone! The Pic & Bill 45s (15 or so of them) are all good soul and worth to track down, there are some nice Cresa Watson releases, there are some fine Willie Hobbs 45s on Soft. Plenty of good garage rock releases as well. Le Cam is probably most famous for being the original label for two gigantic pop hits, Bruce Channel's "Hey! Baby" and J. Frank Wilson's lovely "Last Kiss". Major Bill recorded and released anything he could make money off it seems, and the discographies for these labels are completely messed up, Major often re-used the same catalogue number to issue "new" 45s by the same artist but with a different flipside. There are for example 6 different Pic & Bill 45s released as Charay 60!!! The Major Bill Smith related labels probably warrants a thread of their own. But in the meantime, here's an incomplete Charay discography: https://www.capitolsoulclub.homestead.com/Charaylisting.html
  3. Great stuff, Simon! I can clearly imagine Ian trying to convince Geno that he really DID record that tune... Kind of miss Ian at times, lots of energy!
  4. Yellow Sunshine - yellow sunshine - gamble 14402 refosoul
  5. Found a copy of Yellow Sunshine's "Yellow Sunshine" on GAMBLE today here in my hometown. Had forgotten how much i like that track. A slightly strange rock/funk hybrid and I'm sure not everyones cup of tea... But some fantastic bongo breaks in there!
  6. It's an absolute dynamite tune to play really loud at a club, I did it this past friday and 400 people went nuts! I'm a sucker for that "gospel funk" sound (and soulful, gritty gospel in general) and always keep my eyes and ears open for this stuff, listening to gospel internet radio shows etc. As to where I found the Swan Silvertones 45... think I bought it from Craig Moerer for $10 or $12, listed for the "other" side.
  7. Don't Take You Love From Me - perfections - drumhead 14400 refosoul The other side of that Perfections 45 on Drumhead is great.
  8. I've Gotta Get There - bluesbusters - capitol 14399 refosoul I think this is very nice and at a decent price:Blues Busters/I've Gotta Get There-Capitol dj EX 20
  9. And oh yeah, I got that Maurice Rodgers 45 recently from Lars Bulnheim who is being discussed in another current thread on this forum. I've never had any problems when buying records from him. Was very lucky to win this 45 off him on eBay as it's the only vinyl copy of this record I've ever seen, all others have been styrene.
  10. Thanks for the comments everyone! Glad you like them. A very obscure record, but still quite unknown so shouldn't be too hard to pick up for about £40-£50 if you find a copy. The one that went for £20-ish on eBay was cheap. A batch of copies did turn up a while back and were sold for $75-$100, they seem to have dried up now though. LeCam was a part of Major Bill Smith's stable of labels which also included Soft and Charay.

OK... it reappeared for a brief moment and now it's gone again... does anyone know anything?

  24. If you haven't, flip that over for a fantastic self-written tune called "I've Been Hurt By Love".

Seriously hypnotic tune and gets in your head very easily. Sounds like a bunch of people having a party who suddenly decided to go out in the garage and cut a disco record live to 2-track. I love it! Here it is together with its original heavy metal-looking sleeve:
