  1. Hey Mappy Lead and I'll follow. I've hit so many terrible nights in the last year or so. Not sure bout Ministry though can't afford the water and I don't fancy going to one of those places where the bouncers shoot you.
  2. Hey Mappy Nice to hear from you.........The debate goes on eh! Hope your doin ok. Kev
  3. Tell you what...we can have a rule...if your club night is south of the Watford Gap go for it Funny that, coz most of the good nights that have incorporated what I'd call 'soulful' house have been north of Watford and then some. It's a London thing and I've never been on a scooter in me life! But really even as a young un down the Casino and other clubs I frequented around the Burnley area in the mid 70's i always appreciated the new/modern sounds. Really got into em same as the Northern and oldies. Spent lots of time in the Modern room at Burnley Miners etc.. In the late 80's when I used to go to places thar played house and garage i was flabergasted. The first time I walked into a house club in Soho my teeth rattled and the strobe nearly gave me a fit. Not for me mate! Also down placws like garage City and other nights in Norwood and the like just left me cold. Too much looped vocal etc. Then in the 90's something seemed to happen. maybe it took a while for it to filter down to me but it began to sound more soulful. Production techniques (borrowed a lot from disco) and the vocals which were beginning to be allowed to flourish began to hit the spot. never looked back. still searching for the soulful ones. Just like I do with the northern. Checking dates, labels artists, producers. It's a big pond. I can understand if yoy don't like it anymore but for me the pond just gets bigger and wider.
  4. I'll share em with you. Pick up only? Kev
  5. Of Course not...so why should the scene accept Soulful House Music...answer is...they shouldn't...If siomeone wants to listen to House Music...go to one of your *ahem* 'Underground' London Clubs and listen to it...why people feel the need to intergrate it into the Soul scene I have no idea Beeks I'm not sure if I know you but I'd agree that clubs like Ministry are truly aweful. Champeign sipping pick up joint for peeps with too much in them. But as a soul fan first and foremost a lot of what my radar picks up on the scanner is also 'soulful' house. Even things like Patti Labelle 'New Day', although not what I'd have describe as bangin' house back in the day, is IMO on the house slant but is also soulful to these ears by an artist I much admire. The list of tunes I find do it for me cross a lot of styles and genres of black music. Hence I can buy a demo copy of Little Richie 'Just Another Heartache' in the same weekend as I buy Maxwell 'Lifetime' or a Joe Tex album. All are just as excellent to listen and jig about to. What concerns me is that (as I've said elsewhere) it would be fantastic to, as a punter, be offered the choice to express myself as fully as possible on one given night whether it be in the same room or not. This has happened at many a joint over the years but sadly because I'm either not hitting the right venues or summat I feel a little short changed that my expression, and dance is an expression, is not being fully addressed or catered for. It's not a BIG beef and I can cope, but as a human who loves to collect and go out and dance to soulful sounds it'd be nice to fulfill what I believe is my potential as a soul fan. Hope this makes sense. Kev
  6. Could we have more side rooms then please promoters. Kev
  7. Great! Thats the sort of tune that hits the spot everytime for me. Right up there with the Kenny Bobiens etc. Drips soul for me. Modern style of course. Kev

According to Barrie Waddington all TMG's unless unreleased in the states as some were are reissues by definition although most people take them as original British-many of the early Motown releases in this country were on United Artists/Oriole/Fontana The TMG's started around the mid 60's some were re-released later you'd have to check most mid 60's originals have TMG 500 onwards. If you want any indepth information pm Dave Moore (Hitsville soul club) on here as he used to have the entire lot. Also there's a good discogrophy in the Sharon Davis Motown -The History book if you can get your hands on one. Hope this helps. Kev

or Kenard 'What did you gain by that' or even dig out a copy of 'Power' by the Temtations. Mr Fickle Fingers has been playing it recently off a studio disc but you can pick em up cheap as chips. Gordy G-7183 F. meglamania.....I got my finger on the button! Absolutely the best thing I've heard all year. But you'd have to like storming stomping 'Law of the Land' and then some stuff to like this. Go on treat yourself Kev
  13. A bunch of us saw Jack Ashford and his band (including Ivy Joe Hunter a few months before his sad death) at Ronnie Scotts. They absolutely tore the house down. Fantastic night and I'll always have great memories of seeing some of the original funk brothers. Kev
  14. Long time since I'd heard it and if you listen to as many tunes as I seem to do, and at my age I'd hope to be forgiven for not being quite sure what all the titles are. Did well though didn't I. Kev
  15. I'd say around the £200/250 mark. Kev
  16. Who were The Carpets? Never heard of them before. Kev
  17. Yep I Googled that one. Seems his name is everywhere. Worked with some of the best. Not just as a drummer either. Worked a lot with Charles Wright, Bill Withers, Marvin Gaye, Aretha, Ray Charles, Lamont Dozier amoungst others. was wondering if there might be a biography of his out there somewhere? Kev
  18. Have you heard 'Just enough to hurt me' I think its called. also by The Astors. I think its one of their rarer Stax recordings. there was one on ebay a while back but it was a bit battered. Also included on a 2cd set with the Newcomers on the 2nd cd. It might be a kent cd as I got mine off Adey C. Can't check though as I've lost it. doh! Well worth checking out..superb slice of group vocal soul. Anyone post a sound clip? Kev
  19. I've recently noticed just how many times James Gadson appears on credits on various albums I have. I always knew he was a drummer but until I bought some of his Hi singles I wasn't aware that he obviously has talents in many areas...writing.....arranging.....producing....and playing drums. Does anyone have any biog information about him. Or maybe a place I could find out more. Cheers Kev
  20. Not too sure Adey. Mine came from Our Dave. I hink he told me the story but I can't remember. why not pm him? Kev
  21. I bought mine about 8 yrs ago. I was led to believe they were boots made up from a tape. Always thought it was the most expensive boot I ever paid for £60 (that I know of ha ha.) But I think they were going for a lot more when they first came out. Great version though. Kev
  22. Sorry Adey no photos but maybe the scans will supply you with some info. The rest of the album is as you'd expect nice trumpet laden Jazz Funk some with Jeanies vocals on top but 'You're gonna' is the track. Kev
  23. I'll dig it out asap but I'm sure there are no mug shots Adey. Kev
