  1. Sad news. Glad he got recognition for talent eventually. This is a nice track Ed
  2. There was a karaoke competition in the Wiltshire hotel in Los Angeles in 2004 to see who could belt out DEE DAR DO... And Frank W didn't win it Glad he showed up though and took part. Wish I could hear him try again. Same for plenty of others with debatable singing credentials as they got older. Ed
  3. There should be a warning on that video for flash photography and SHINE HEADS Bloody blinding... RIP Benny Lamanna Ed
  4. Don't forget ' soul ( now and again) in the Sun'. Tenerife Playas Des Las Americas twice a year with about 900 each time... And the soul lodge and other bars who take in the overspill. Ed
  5. If the record companies ' have faith' what artist would decline a pay cheque? I doubt Patti Austin or Chaka Khan are rolling in it. Don't like it, don't buy it, but don't disrespect it. Ed
  6. Hey now, come on, guys. These artists gave so much pleasure to us all over the years, and they are dropping like flies as time marches on. Tommy Hunt, Dean Parrish, Toby Legend, Freddie Chavez, Spyder Turner, Betty Swan, etc etc....long may they entertain us. How about appreciation for keep on keeping on! If you can't say anything nice, don't say nothing at all. These artists may look at this site and be really depressed. No negative posts please. Ed
  7. Tongue in cheek.. Ed
  8. Ok then....i admit it, I did buy this as a new release...those were the days:) Ed
  9. Maybe overplayed and slipped back down the pecking order but this is a happy sound.. Ed
  10. I remember a few years ago being at Soul in the Sun Tenerife and getting intrrviewed by Radio Stoke..... 3 of us were asked what we thought was the best all time Northern Soul record. I was the whipasnapper...being younger than the other two. I was amazed when one guy picked Gone with the wind is my love... A great record but in truth the guy had left the scene before Rita's stomper was ever played. He simply said as a born again soulie, this tune beat anything he had ever heard! The point is after quite a while of having the opportunity of picking the tune you ' dislikes' most, we've turned up less than a dozen choices... I can imagine many many more choices for the tune you like most....but yes bring it on! Ed
  11. Good idea, start it off. Don't be offended though if others don't like it as much! Ed
  12. Well...metaphorically speaking.. Ed
  13. Pete With all due respect, you miss the point. Nobody is having a go at Al Wilson. I've personally admitted having a copy of the snake, and danced to it a thousand times. But for me, now, when I hear it, I loathe it! In 2017, in Detroit, I heard Spyder Turner stating he never really liked I C T I A....but yet I could listen to that morning noon and night! I love Frank's dee da do.....but others cringe at it. If you love everything by everybody, that's great. All these threads are tongue in cheek! In answer to your choice rebuke choice of tune...show and tell your ' sick of hearing it tune! Ed
  14. Sorry everyone, the topic was the most hated tune, not necessarily the worst tune. Al Wilson and the snake is indeed an all time classic, and as I pointed out, between 14 and 16 it was a big record, but then it got hijacked and commercialised and even copied on TV talent shows etc. So now when I hear it, it's like fingernails down a blackboard. I'm not disputing it's place in history etc, and I've owned a reissue as a teeny boppa. There must be a track that does this to you! Ed
  15. Oh no.. My Cleggy memories are being trashed... Sounds better at a nighter when you were 15 Ed
  16. As an example you mght need this.. What's the story? Ed
  17. A recent example Ed Sacrilege...
  18. I guess if somebody actually made a really great tinkered version over the original, it might work, but I've yet to hear such an example. Obviously tunes have different versions by different singers ( When I'm gone - had a nice version by bonnie pointer for example) and or even instrumentals get words added in (Like the Bird walking vocal), but it's what it's been done just for the Northern Soul scene's benefit, it winds everybody up. It's a no from me. Ed
  19. Can anybody actually dance to this? Don't get me wrong, I got my pressing just like many more, but never got the hang of what to do with it apart from play the air guitar:) Ed
  20. I could ad lib a few words to that delightfully recognised instrumental... Dee da do.. Ed
  21. I mean seriously...i've heard this played and the floor was packed and the dancers were well into it.... A bit like a cult record, truth be told. Hence my ' pointless topic' of what tune do you ' have most reservations about audio enjoyment'. That's if hate is inappropriate.. It's a broad church indeed. Ed
  22. You would have thought, and it certainly may be the case, that some events have a strict music policy to ensure a certain standard is maintained. You know quality sounds on original recorded format etc etc. Problem is there's no consensus on what ' quality ' defines itself as. I've been to the undred club where I heard an hour of top top tunes followed by an hour of slow tempo suicidal 60s dross followed by a salsa inspired Latino hour.... All filling the dance floor. Don't forget Searling played my hearts symphony quite a few times ' early on'. I think the only way to deal with it, is to stay away, or don't take it serious. I got into a real heated argument a few years ago at a ' only soul' event when some ska got played out. Now Ska is not soul to me, but it must be to others as the floor was packed. Ed
  23. Another floor filler. TSWONS...
  24. Apparently a good typist though back in the day:) Smart Lady though, having her name in front of the ever changing Vandellas! Ed
