  5. Novas Nine - Pain / Why listen - got the acetate, the national abc release and the local Heritage release. By coincidence last year I was interviewing one of the band members from NC just before I bought the Heritage release from a New York dealer. My copy has a handwritten note on the label by the same band member (and writer of both sides) to his girlfriend at the time. stirred up some old memories apparently! Bear in mind this was circa 1968...
  6. And from the "If you see my baby" 45, we know the Passions were Pat, Connie and Carol - any surnames?
  7. I did find this discog (obviously not complete) https://www.45rpmrecords.com/ST/Elvitrue.php
  8. Anybody got any history on these ladies? I read Elvitrue was out of South 7th Street, Wilmington NC, owned by John Lewis Jones which had a sporadic recording history of around 10 releases, until 1976. The reportoire included pop, soul, gospel, country and funk acts. Though I'm sure I also read it is linked with Ohio based Rite custom publishing? And the NY Satelite Music Publishers connection? On "Hello college girl (boy)" the writing credits refer to Camp Lejeune NC — this was / is a marine corps base camp near Wilmington, which ties in with the Elvitrue address. E.J. Chaplin was a marine? What's the deal? Other than that, nowt? Anybody got any other bits, no matter how minor....need a few leads to explore for the next book...

  14. As a totally off topic aside, the Cellar is indeed in Charlotte, possibly the last old brick building(boarded up now) in the middle of what is now a city centre of glass and skyscrapers. Just about every decent beach band from NC played there in the sixties....took us a while to find it though...me and Nat Speir, founder of Bob Meyer and the Rivieras (who also played there), finally found it tucked away next to a parking lot. From what we can work out this was the front entrance...
