Kinda sad that Jack Ashford's own personal copy with the letter of authenticity auctioned by John not so long ago didn't reach this high finishing price.

Record Jungle is picked absolutely clean.....my last dig there yielded two 45's, mostly LP's. For shear quantity of stock, try Bagatelle in Long Beach. It's pretty picked through, but it's got the biggest volume of browsable stock out in the racks. Amoeba is very hit or miss....mostly miss, and you can't check out anything on a portable. The Last Bookstore in Downtown LA has some stock.....mostly cheapies. As Kris says, with LA diggin' for 45's, you've gotta be in the right place at the right time to find the good stuff. A bit of an obvious statement I guess, but there's a lotta of folks digging for tunes these days, from the locals, to the US out of towners, tourists and the Asian connection. There's always a ton of people in town, looking for the heaters.

For this spotlight, we head to Southern Florida for the incredible music of the Little Shadows. The Shadows are a self contained group led by their father, Rev Freddie Davis & feature family members Althea, Revi, Leslie, Glenile & Francene Davis....all are talented instrumentalists as well as having a brace of amazing vocals. The group began touring South of Florida & crossing into Georgia in 1965. Lead vocals were generally shared between Althea & Leslie, the baby of the group.....without doubt the two power house performances featured here are from Althea. A vocalist that surely should have gained way more shine....be amazed by these Shadows! The track's here are presented on 4 labels; Du-Vern, Mission, Lesley & Zan.

For this spotlight, we head to Chicago, Ill by way of Nashville, TENN to check out the Swan Mellarks. Lead vocalist Joe Paries, was quoted as saying in 1988 ‘I love fast, I love slow, but I get the most feeling when I take a slow number and really express it to the audience’. And with this mix, it’s without any doubt at all, that the slow burning cuts really are first class. Lead was shared between Mr Paries, Clem Boyd, John Adams & Lynnell Harris and were based in Chicago. Valberst had an office based in Nashville leaving their strapline to be ‘Chicago — Nashville Sound’, & their product was distributed out of LA by Kent Records. The track's here are presented on just the one label; Valberst out of Nashville via Chicago.
