  12. Absolutely agree with you on everything there....there shouldn't be any compromise with quality. But I guess a lot of the scene has always been about trial and error, and it looks to me like we're at that place again. Trying to broaden the boundaries of a soul scene is always gonna be egg shell fragile, with others more receptive and having broader tastes than others.....I for one have never been a fan of the lighter 'pop'end of what others would call a quality midtempo'northern soul' tune. But that's just personal preference and something that in theory can be cross referenced in this thread. It totally has to be vibrant, sir......no doubt!
  13. I get that you don't like the United Sounds Pete, but your analysis is misplaced, IMO......the Northern Soul scene isn't dying, it's fracturing. We've been through it a million times, that there are those punters that no longer want to hear the same old classics, week in, week out. Whilst Stoke was in full flow, a smaller yet just as vital event was going on 45 minutes away, with fresh and exciting, new sounds.....well to some, they're fresh and exciting. To others, they're not pre-approved northern tunes so will never sit well described as a 'northern soul' tune. Embrace the change, and realize that whilst of course all opinions are absolutely valid, it seems like we're heading for a 'Northern Soul' and a 'Rare Soul' scene split....both separate in attitude and the types of tunes that you'll expect to hear at them.
  14. Butch is still hammering his copy, so best hear it nice and loud wherever he's playing, rather than relying on computer speakers and a rip from a G+ copy. I'm sure I'll give it a few spins too whilst I'm around. too And Mick H will more than likely do the honours....a fairly recent pick up for the fellow.
  15. Speculation and opinions are all cool and that, but I guess facts are facts......the United Sounds simply packs the floor everytime. It was requested at Soul Funk-tion and was arguably the most popular tune of that quite awesome 'nighter......it actually falls a little out of my normal playlist style, but that makes it all the more exciting for me, when I can play it and fill the dancefloor. Both the Cobblestone and Rapda Tommy Dent's are quite messy to my ears, but having said that, I'd happily file both of 'em if I could.
  16. Here's the 37th installment of The Divine Chord Gospel Show which appears monthly on dublab.com. https://www.mixcloud.com/gregbelson/divine-chord-gospel-show-pt-37-glastonbury-festival-recap/ For this broadcast, we relive the excitement that was the amazing Block9 field at Glastonbury Festival 2014, & some of the gospel disco tunes played at the NYC Downlow, primetime on Saturday night. For pt. 1, there's a fresh batch of tunes for your ears spearheaded by a Frankie Knuckles tune acknowledging the David Morales tribute at Glastonbury. Plus also the freshly discovered 11th District Choir gets a play. What a voice! Pt. 2 delves as ever into the deeper, darker, soulful & spiritual side of things. A slightly smaller section this time, but still just as hard hitting. All deliver high quality tunes, & bring an element of rawness to proceedings. And then, pt. 3....the GLASTONBURY RECAP. A selection of tunes that had the whole of the NYC Downlow moving to a dose of the holy ghost. Relive it here! Feel free to join the facebook group 'The Divine Chord Gospel Show'!

  20. I actually looked for a trolley bag for this tour mate, and it seems they're really tough to find at the moment. Most models I used to use aren't made anymore, so what's good about the bag I picked up, is that it slots nicely onto the top of a wheely piece of carry on/laptop bag etc. Plus pockets for hardware, and rain proof flaps on the top....nice feature for the UK!
  21. I'm currently using this one, mate.....smashin' bag.....a proper Robert Francis. https://www.magma-bags.com/produkte/lp-bag-40-II-e.php3
  22. Last call at $350....my final reduction....this LP has peaked at $796 in the not too distant past, so here's the cheapest copy available on the internet today. Bargain!
