  1. Hello mate and cheers for the question. I'm not a religious person in the slightest......I do believe in the right to personal choice though so if religion is a major part of an individuals life, then I respect that......all I ask is to respect my choices too. I decided to explore the gospel path years ago, when the music and performances really spoke to me.....not the message. It would be wrong to be judgmental about the lyrical content, and miss out on such wonderful, heart felt and emotional performances.....and as I started to discover and scratch the surface of this genre, I realised just how vast it really is. This music deserves to be documented and it's the catalyst for so many secular soul & r&b tunes we all know and love. So for me, the discovery is part of the thrill, the documentation of often recordings so small in distribution, they'd only be available for one Sunday at the local church. There's so much to uncover from my era of choice which is circa '64 to circa '84, and every day there's something fresh and exciting to listen to!

  5. Thanks so much to all of you that tuned in live to the show, broadcasting live out of Los Angeles! The format was rooted in northern spins that our guest DJ's love and rotate regularly into sets they play today......you'll notice a few tracks that might stray from that format, but that's all thumbs up from us....taste is what's on show here and we had an absolute blast bringing you two hours of rare soul tunes OVO from out here in SoCal. Myself and the guest DJ's DJ Bywell, Nancy Yahiro and Andy Cobb took turns per tune to spin and this was what happened....any questions and comments are welcomed, and the archived audio will be available in a few days; 45's of Fury Northern Soul Special originally aired on 23rd October 2013 The Rice Brothers 'Follow the leader' (Power-House) Joe Bravo and the Sunglows 'Think it over' (Sunglow) The Tempests 'Someday' (Smash) The Festivals 'You've got the makings of a lover' (Smash) Freddie Hughes 'I gotta keep my bluff in' (Wand) The Prime Cut 'Hey pearl' (Shady Brook) The Group featuring Cecil Washington 'The light of day' (Prophonics) Five Keys 'Hey girl' (Inferno) Jimmy Burns & The Fantastic Epics 'You're gonna miss me when I'm gone' (Tip-Top) Jackie Lee 'Do you believe' (Unreleased alternate version acetate) The Fantastics 'Goodbye to love' (DMD) Brad Stuart 'That day when she needed me' (Sir Graham) Charles Drain 'I'm gonna stay' (RCA) Ty Karim 'Lightin' up (Romark) The Nomads 'Somethin's bad' (Mo-Groov) Sonny Bravo 'Tighten up' (Columbia) John Leach 'Put that woman down' (Lawn) Bill Caffie 'Girl from bowling green' (Cin Town) Lord Luther 'My mistake' (Schireck) Ray Medina 'Heads head' (Mares) The Intrigues 'In a moment' (Bullet) 21st Century 'Shadow of a memory' (Noel) The Lockettes 'I love the boy who lives next door' (ABC) Kolahyah 'Leo' (Kimo) Visions of a New World 'Children' (New World) The Lyrics 'Witch queen of New Orleans' (Velvet) Newsounds 'Bet you never thought about it' (Mod-Art) Smokey 007 and the Exciters 'We've got the same kind of thing going on' (Sonesta) Edward Hamilton and the Natural Looks 'Willing mind' (Mary Jane) Coop & the All-Stars 'Son of scorpio' (Space) Bobby Baker 'Everything has got to be alright' (Da*Vi*da) United Sounds 'It's all over (baby)' (United) Divine Chords with the Jamerson Combo 'Pray on' (Gloryland) Betty Lloyd 'I'm catching on' (BSC) Betty Turner 'The winds kept laughing' (Crescent) Kenny Smith & the Loveliters 'One more day' (Flo-Rae) Jesse Johnson 'Left out' (Old Town) Claude 'Baby' Huey 'Drifitng' (M.I.O.B.) 9. I can never understand the bug bear of having a problem with the lyrics though. Listen to the amazing music and some of the most heart wrenching, mind blowing vocal performances you're ever likely to hear.....if you let the subject matter (which in essence is usually a positive message or a socio-conscious document of the artists surroundings, much like any secular r&b or soul artist) get in the way of discovering these tunes, then you might just be missing out. Here's a few more though; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqP77zzxgxk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SrsV6cKUdZ8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ZJDGCVaYQw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eecspi3RyME https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8aK2Rb5XU_c https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TiyRvlmyISI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNAZYu4aBCg

  17. The Bill Lee is a total novelty record, which is kinda interesting (especially for me). I used it as an intriguing opener on my radio show once, otherwise, I don't think I'd ever play it again ;) And The Bangers 'I want to bang your box' is nice enough....but seek out a version by Lorenzo Manley....proper r&b dancefloor mayhem kinduva cut.

I was honoured to have the Dust & Grooves crew visit my crib and interview me on how I program my gospel show. We documented the thought process of piecing together each record one after the other, as well as what tunes to unveil on the show....and for those of you already familiar with the broadcast, I make every effort to re-discover as many long lost tunes as possible, and finally get the artist names a level of exposure. So please tune in to; https://dublab.com/ And to check out what Eilon and the D&G crew are up to on their quest around the United States for some of the most avid collectors the US has to offer, check out his superb website here; https://www.dustandgrooves.com/ For those of you that missed the last show, here's the mixcloud link; https://www.mixcloud.com/gregbelson/divine-chord-gospel-show-pt-27/ Also, please feel free to explore and subscribe to our youtube channel featuring some of the choicest 45's to be played on the show. https://www.youtube.com/user/DivineChordGospel/videos?flow=grid&view=0 And then, kicking off at 3pm (11pm UK time) get ready for a special 45's of Fury broadcast, featuring; DJ Ruff-Diamond (Ex-Baltikaglasen) This Bundesclout, Germany transplant by way of Unyan Upon Cheddar UK, started his professional career as the keyboard pioneer for heavy hitting glamtekeuroslash duo, Baltikaglasen. When he returns home, he’ll be starting work on his beloved project, ‘The life and times of Gillian Taylforth’ aka ‘Spicy Jill’, collaborating with the Tolworth Philharmonic. But today, the King of the ‘Ruff’ brings you his selection of original 45’s as we’re so proud to host this legend during his brief visit to Los Angeles. Turn on, tune in and envy us…….!
