  1. Excellent, mate....glad to be of assistance
  2. FYI, the Kindly Shepherds was featured on a Checker comp LP 'Sunday Gospel Open House'....also includes the Faithful Wonders cut 'Ol' John'. Vintage LP and nice, loud pressing...;should be cheap and fairly easy to locate. https://collectorsfrenzy.com/details/110889703593/SUNDAY_GOSPEL_OPEN_HOUSE_kindly_shepherds_CHECKER_mono_GOSPEL_SOUL_LP_listen
  3. Absolutely....it's just the deals are getting more and more personal. Word of mouth, rather than just randomly turning up to a spot and negotiating. Towards the end of last year, a buddy of mine had a major score on the west coast....all negotiated directly, so I certainly didn't know about it until the deal was done. All kinds of high end 45's in the collection too, like the Superbs on Dore, Chucky Thurman on Thermoe Blast, Scorpio and His People etc. So yeah, it can be done, but networking like crazy is gonna yield the fruit.
  4. Is this the first clean issue copy to come up for sale since Mr Callier's death? On ebay, at any rate.....
  5. I think it's OK...........I put it on an old mix of mine and then promptly sold it. The backing is pretty tasty, but the vocal performance is just the wrong side of popcorn for me.
  6. Yeah, it's an absolute rip of 'Hold on....' without a doubt, mate. Definitely a case of a gospelized classic, possibly for more secular appeal, or just borrowing a riff for accessibility.
  7. Sorry, mate....I'll keep my eyes open for ya ;)
  8. For the slightly funkier floors, here's Margaret Moss and the Three Stars.
  9. The Caffey Brothers on Aura is gonna have some legs this year.
  10. Greg Belson posted a post in a topic in All About the SOUL
But as the author of the thread states from the get go, 'This doesn't need to descend into yet another OVO thread, it's not intended to be that.' There's plenty of other threads to discuss it, mate.
  11. First aired on 27th December 2012 Here's the 19th installment of The Divine Chord Gospel Show which appears monthly on dublab.com. https://www.mixcloud.com/gregbelson/divine-chord-gospel-show-pt-19/ For the 1st section of this end of year special, we feature some choice midtempo funk inspired cuts from the likes of Trevor Dandy & a deceptively tricky 45 to locate from Bill Moss. Also the phenomenal low slung soul of George Guidery gets a first time play on the show....a 45 starting to pick up a little exposure! On to the 2nd section where 7 deep soul standouts are highlighted....all of these tracks really seem to hit the mark, so get yourself comfortable & marvel at the awesomeness of Etoy Bogart, Shirley James & crew. To close, we bounce around from known classics by The Gospel Truth, to future classics by Delores Fuller. And to close, we debut a disc surely destined for great things by Bobby Baker....a killer modern soul funky 45! Feel free to join the facebook group 'The Divine Chord Gospel Show' for updates. https://www.facebook.com/groups/210146665696412/ Thanks for listening!

  23. Shure white labels are nice but be wary that they're very, very delicate. I had a pair of needles that got damaged on the first night of using them (without excessive DJ use either). I heard a DJ using Stanton Trackmaster.V3 MP4's the other day for 45's......very loud response with light contact. I'll be researching more about these guys for my next set, I reckon.
