  1. i got a couple of dspares of the " joe brown" - vibration- drop me a line if you still need it...
  2. With regards gwen owens 45 it actually got 3 pressings in original format w/d which i sol some years ago and played perfectly the more common faulty press -( certainly the original plates were sub standard they are very temperamental to temperature fluctuations and have a very short lifespan ) this accounts for it's rarity ,most will have been destroyed ! the mastertape must have been sound proof is the w/d ,in any case who would send a 45 to press if the sound quality was has poor as the faulty one ? then the rarest format the perfect press issue which gwen brought over with the 4 copies to prestatyneveryone thought it was a boot cos it has thinner vinyl and grooves, gwen told me that because of the failure of the first press it was given another go.god knows where the copies are, she also went on to say that the backing vocals were 2-3 of her friends from college.the 4 copies she brought over had been in the family since the 60's
  3. mmmm... sam called at my place recently and took the NOAH - C.STIX ! must sound a tad more in vogue as of now ! must say it will go places this 45 very nice indeed !!
  4. aye miss shuffler... i was 17 at the time , i used to get the bus to crofty's shop strads carry me box across town thn load steve's van up and i'd be plonked in the back of the van with a couple more lunatics and endure the 3 hour run to parr hall- you see mr croft was tight he'd go 40mph all the way the van had holes in the back and he seemed to go the long way for some reason ! but it was worth it i was on first then george sharp would follow, nevr forget one time i finnished with charles mann- hey little girl , george put this 45 on the decks and said this next record will be monstrous- how right he was it was george pepp- coleman - he's just got it for £60 i think from anderson, strange i ended up with that same copy some 10 years later....
  5. PARR HALL - fantastic venue always one of my faves ... first niter i ever dj'd at bloody hell !!
  6. DEON JACKSON- SUN WILL SHINE - IS A ATLANTIC ACETATE THAT'S BEAT REALLY BADLY , WHEN I WORKED AT BROWNY'S KOPPELL PLAYED IT ME OVER THE PHONE AND ASKED IF I THOUGHT IT'D GO , I TOOK THE ORIGINAL CUTS (4) OFF THE ORIGINAL ACETATE AND I THINK IT WAS SOLD TO NIGE PARKER - CAN'T REMEMBER I THINK THEY HAD CUTS OF IT LIKE I DID ( CARL AND GARY) . NOT SURE WHERE IT RESIDES NOW- BUT REGARDLESS IT'SONLY JUST PLAYABLE !!
  7. mmm... been giving this " records are bigger than the d/j's " angle , well it ain't that difficult , without the music the d/j would be fucked and without the d/j the music would be fucked ( in the venues obviously ) at home music is king ! so we have the music and plenty of it , by far the most important factor from then on is having capable lads on who can actually do it right... to me the easiest events to d/j at are oldies / popular nights - lets face it it's a absolute doddle , virtually anyone can do it and do - do it me thinks the real skill is playing to a knowledgeable crowd who need to hear new and exciting tunes from 60's ,70's and 80's - correcct me if i'm wrong but that sorts the men out from the boys... thoughts...
  8. Just dug the timmy carr out , i have to say pretty good, although the flip shows it is a touch dated ! i have at least 100 45's that are waiting to be played over the coming years in my upfront sets - this i feel just ain't good enough to play out, never the lessgreat soul one side virually rock and roll the other ! my copy also has the over printing on the label..
  9. i got most of the titles mentioned on me web siteb that'll be up soon + hundreds more at 20 and less , infact within a few weeks chalkys gonna do some sales c/ds send us a mail and i'll do a copy for the price of postage !
  10. john you keep saying " these so called big names " i can tell you for a fact so called big names put arses throught the doors at lifeline ! tell me who you'd replace and keep on for the ultimate upfront line up - i won't be offended in the slightest you have my word ! but thgink very hard who can play a hour of top notch unknowns ? has for money that don't come into it all my dj's are proper passionate that's why they keep finding things - strap back do you honestly think £100-150 is anything like appropriate wages ? it's a joke ! but that proves they aren't in it for the money - you can't cut costs at quality events ! fire away let's oen up.
  11. i took the junior mc - king of gary spencer then sold it browny.this is the king file copy there is no more for sure. milton james 2 known at the mo. come on frank wilson is fantastic ,hammered but fantastic - most of the dross today don't come near.he ain't found 50 copies absolute twiddle and if lew was somehow involved the rumours would be different 3 found maybe , lets see em and cut the bollocks..
  12. Thanks for playing me the flip of lifesaver ! trev i'll sort it for you new years eve.
  13. mmm.. astounded the " lifesaver " got issued my copy and the other handfull are on pink same side promo's .was told the lead singer was gene redd's daughter or family member was a member of the girl group and cut it as a promo never to get issued ( don't think it's in the label listing ) but hey there's the scan ! i remember browny buying it from clifford around 10 years ago for £40 we thought it was a bit weak at the time ,but mother time has changed things - be interested to hear the flip side. with regards the rita+tiaras c/up this would have been a winner in any era of the northern scene,it's got the lot black girl group ,custom made backing ,sax break and a perfect xover flip - mind you the knob head who taped the set probably couldn't fit it on the tape . well pete you obviously ain't got a clue what makes a great northern tune....
  14. Otis clay- cos he can still sing faultlessly live like the day he cut his first 45, certainly on parr would be Rance allen , Tyrone davis and David ruffin, Sam dees. Takes some choosing....
  15. The del-larks manship has is a true original, i know the collector he got it from ! without a doubt an ORIGINAL !
  16. THIS is the rarest title on villa by the magicians - real hard to find at least £200..
  17. Those oxford knights " are certainly not originals that he's been selling . don't touch em for sure !
  18. That was Chalky BTW who posted that
  19. I'm 99.9% certain this is one of the pressings done by Anglo American. There was only 100 of each done and as far as I know they have all gone. We put one of the last full sets up on e-bay and it only fetched summat like £60, worked out a tenner each, bargain judging by the price of boots these days. The person who boughjt it does contribute to this site Although I'm not 100% if he got a full set. The remaining sets weren't complete as all the Suspicion ones had gone before the rest. There was the one sided boot from the 80's, again white label and also the other boot which was the Detroit Prophets, the speeded up version.
  20. James you're quite right there is a middle ground - i used " everyday people " as a example because i know all the funk guys are chasing it and i wish this kind of record would be accepted by the masses cos it's very soulful with a funky tinge, but these kind of 45's will always be a purists taste.infact i sold a spare to soul sam cos he's probably the only major name guy who would play it out ( don't think he's used it yet ) and maybe get away with it.so i know where you're coming from, if everything goes to plan and the back room at sherridens is renovated then we'll certainly be playin stuff like that and we'll give you a go without a doubt.
  21. I'm afraid funk just ain't gonna work at northern niters, it's hard enough breaking northern newies ! i play -richard marks -tuska , everyday people - world full of people , not really the funk scene's typical " funk " but as funky as we can go and these get little reaction other than the odd bit of interest from " soul " collectors. it would be nice to mix all styles and genres in one room but those days went years ago.James why not make a trip up to lifeline and judge for yourself if your style would fit the bill ? ....
  22. " MISCHIEF " ME PERSONALLY THINKS EVERYBODY IS EQUAL ON THE SCENE ,FROM DANCERS TO TOP NAME JOCKS LIKE SEARLING ETC.. I'D SAY THERE IS KINDA PECKING ORDER THAT COMES WITH EXPERIENCE , RIGHTLY OR WRONGLY IT IS THE WAY IT IS BUT BELIEVE ME I ALWAYS REGARD THE PAYING CUSTOMER AS PROBABLY THE MOST IMPORTANT IN SOME WAYS COS THEY'RE PAYING TO HEAR WHAT MUSIC POLICY AND RESPECTIVE VENUE THEY CHOOSE TO ATTEND ! SO AS LONG AS YOU LOOK AT THE LINE UP AND MUSIC POLICY YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE GONNA GET . I'LL TELL YOU WHAT FOR ALL THE GREAT UPFRONT STUFF KICKING AROUND FEW DO WHAT GEORGE BLACKWELL - CAN'T LOSE... ,ART FREEMAN - SLIPPIN AROUND AND MANY OTHERS OF THAT ERA DO ,COS LET'S FACE IT THEY ARE THE GREAT RECORDS ! ENJOY THEM FOR AS LONG AS YOU CAN - I STILL DO....
  23. Mr bicknell you say the scene is in the shite , which scene ? oldies clubs are busy ( stoke etc.. then you have lifeline niter on with at least 2 of the all time greatest dj's has residents playing as upfront as it gets and great guests ! the upfront scene is in the shite cos the moaning fuckers never show up ! it's there on a plate top venue top jocks and top music,f*** me what does it take to get folk in free blow jobs ??
  24. that's right mark, this is just part of the learning process ,not forgetting a lot of the people who left the scene and came back just after stafford these kind of records are new dicoveries. shag mine wish i could find new discoveries as good as - " bigger and better "....
  25. I remember george sharp doin' me a sales tape about 18 years hytones, attractions - why shouldn't a man cry.. to mention a few all were £5 @ all the titles were kicking around and never really made it ,but collecters like myself snapped em up and the truth is they never came along again in quantity ! this will happen in the future with these £20-£30 sounds of today for sure. the ABET release is by no means rare a simple case of demand and more importantly quality - let's be honest these things are not on the shelves at asda.....
