Looking forward to Baz Maleady back behind the decks at the Ukrainian Club. One of my all time favourite Soul Singers Linda Jones, recorded so many great records that have seen turntable action over the years, this one seems to have grabbed the attention recently and rightly so!!

Just over a week to our next night at Ashton Ukrainian Club. Saturday May 20th is shaping up to be another cracker. As ever another quality line up, with some real pedigree on the Rare Soul Scene. Phil Dick will be well known to most for his "Detroit A Go Go" events and before that at various events in and around Bradford. Baz Maleady another quality DJ and non too shabby promotor of The Culcheth "spirit of Lowton events, also being a major player on the crossover/ modern circuit with The excellent "spirit of the Orwell" nights at Haydock, proving real poplular with folk with an open mind on quality soul music. The Saints Club in St Helens being the catalyst for "pushing the boundaries" soul music through the Lowton Civic Hall period to present day. Phil Threlfall known more recently for the "ground breaking" Grumpy Soul Nights. Phil has been a stalwart on the scene in the post Wigan period from Morecambe Pier, Stafford TOTW and beyond, expect the unexpected!! Bolton's Derek Watmough will be adding the usual classy selection from all eras, being a regular from the early days of OUR music!! Phil Dunn will be starting the night, again mixing the classics and a few " curve balls"!! Pinning the whole thing together Ashton Main Man Chris Churm probably the most unassuming DJ you will ever meet. His records speak for themselves!!! Please remember our now earlier start time running 7pm-00.30 and an interest rate busting £5 pay on the door!! Our regulars and new attendees never cease to amaze with the distances they travel for this quality event, many thanks!! Please check the thread and feel free to RSVP the event, on here for any updates !!

  16. Micksmix reviewed Eddiefoster's review on an event in Soul Nights

Well on an another busy weekend on the soul calendar, Ashton Ukrainian Club was running a week later than our usual third saturday. Pleasantly surprised to see a healthy turn out already as the doors opened. Great to see Calvin Lee Hughes and Sarah King making the long journey from Llandudno for the night, love the action video shots Darren Carroll and our very own Lounge Lizard was front of house in the lounge!! The night was a slow burner to start, but soon kicked into gear, nice early set from Phil Dunn. John Hillel looked like he was having a ball back behind the decks. Mixed Feelings "sha la la lit the dancefloor up. Gis Southworth followed, Ruby Winters "better" a pretty good start point and the quality spins flowed, all topped off with a fighter pilot helmet certainly turned a few heads lol. West Midlands maestro John Weston followed playing a great and varied set Foreign Blue Rennaisance, being the stand out track for me personally. Paul Johnson was again pure class, with a breath taking mix of the known and WOW not heard that in ages set, quality as ever sir!! Lord Ashton Chris Churm did an awesome last set Marshall Donovan and Broomfield for an opener was off the scale. Chris was on fire, I had to remind him we were running ten minutes after time ooops . Keep your eye on the Soul-source events page and on here for more details of our next event saturday May 20th for another stellar DJ line up!!
