Skull Snaps
I seem to remember the Diplomats became the Skullsnaps? So were they the Puzzles as well in between? Or am I mixing up?

Alice Clark - Alice Clark - Mainstream Lp
I agree, as bizarre (or naughty? ) as "smelling vinyl" may sound. Even if it was still sealed and stored away in a dry room for 30 odd years there's a huge difference in smell and 'feeling' of vinyl and cover between a recent press and one done 20/30 odd years ago.

Ah, thanks for that. Of course I know Sven and the Munich Blues bunch...

Two Cover Up Names Needed, Anyone? Masquaders - Soultown, Mbs -bjet
Dave, your site is useful but not if access from the office PC is blocked! Thing is, I have both records and both have visible distinct cellotape residues in the run out grooves. They had been played covered up at one time or the other. I know that my copy of the Masquaders once belonged to Soul Sam but did he played it covered up? M.B.S. is for Modern Blues Sound. A very obscure record that is one of my alltime favourites. Don't know if RM spun it. I first heard it on a tape recording of the 1990 Yarmouth Weekender radio station, it may has been Rob who played it (uncovered I shall add). Am just trying to know a bit more about the history of two of my most beloved records

Soulful Scootering
Sorry, doesn't really ring any bells, are they the bunch from Bremen? Maybe I know them but not under this moniker I'm afraid Due to other commitments my active days on the scooter scene are long gone now. Still got a rusty T5 to go around the city and attend the odd run or two each year but that's about it. Oh, and I got a TS1 equipped LI Special in parts and bits at my parents. I hope to get it back on the road this or next year...

Soulful Scootering
In Germany the Northern Soul scene wouldn't have survived after it's first peak in the mid/late 80s without the scooter scene. At a typical Northern Soul allnighter in the mid 90s I estimate at least 75% of the punters had either scooters or had a scooterist background.

Len Jewell - Bettin' On Love - Teri De For Sale
It was mentioned in another thread that John Manship valued it at 25 in one of his earlier bootleg guides. Think that's more appropriate hence a price reduction. Please PM me, this thread will be closed to stop chit-chat posts

Len Jewell - Bettin' On Love - Teri De For Sale
Your posts come across as you didn't really get the difference between a discussion and a sales thread did you?

Frank Wilson On Soul Auction
I didn't say it will end up 8K on auction. I did say it's not worth more than 8K. I'm fully aware of how records can exceed their true value in auctions. The reason why I don't join the "estimate the end price of FW" game is pretty simple: I can't be bothered. I think FW is a fantastic record and with only 2 copies known to the public one of the rarest Northern Soul records too. But I'm not really excited about the news that a copy will soon be auctioned. If John Manship said a mint copy of the Mello Souls will be auctioned soon I'd be drooling...

Len Jewell - Bettin' On Love - Teri De For Sale
Well, thanks for Pete for pointing out that this is a sales thread (actually my sales thread for those who didn't know). I think it's basic netiquette not to discuss prices or having a go at somebodys asking price in the very same thread. I'm sure each and every seller welcomes positive posts in his/her threads but we all can do without any "i think it's worth only 1/10 of what you're asking for mate" or "this is a shite record" crap can't we?

Frank Wilson On Soul Auction
One question that I don't think has been discussed before. The reported 15K that Kenny B. paid for FW (only partially in cash I recall?), was this the winning bid in an auction or was this the asking price or was this the final offer that Tim Brown/Martin Koppell couldn't refuse? In my opinion when compared to other NS records of equal rarity and quality it shouldn't be worth more than the 8K that Pete Smith estimates.

Southwind Symphony - Coming Home
John, thanks but I already got a copy. I agree with you the hammond organ bits are the best. Usually if a record has good hammond organ breaks in it, it is a winner for me. Maybe time for reactivation of this forgotten oldie?

Do you mean that bloke who even had a "scan" of FW on his website? He turned out to have many many Motown related tunes but collection was far from complete. FW scan was fake as were a few others on his site.

Southwind Symphony - Coming Home
Andy, thanks for the info. Can see why it was massive at that time. Proper instrumental (i.e. not simply a backing track), 100% Northern Soul and then some. I bought my copy two years ago in a job lot and never actually played it until a week ago. Since then heavy rotation on the iPod This bit is from Manship's site: "Superb Northern Soul, with lickin' hammond organ. Memphis reworking of Lou Pride's classic - I'm comun home in the mornun - thumps along. Kenneth Smith and Al Green's organist did a great job replacing Lou's vocal." Fully agree with that. It's a shame that the flipside, instrumental of Lou's "your love is fading" is rather pale in comparison...

Southwind Symphony - Coming Home
Does anyone know the story behind Southwind Symphony - Coming home on Glolite? Fantastic instrumental version of Lou Pride's coming home in the morning. I understand this is a legit release done by the producers of Lou Pride?

Tis is the 2nd post in this thread mentioning that someone in Germany might buy it. Where did you guys get the impression from that someone in Germany would be that loaded to pay 25K for a Motown record?

Best Swap Ever
About 10 years ago I got a DJ copy of Four Perfections for a UK London demo of Sammy Ambrose Welcome to dreamsville. I know that Sammy Ambrose is probably rarer than Four Perfections but I only paid 20 quid for it off Catford Chris
