  2. 1) Jackie Shane - Stand up straight and tall - German Ariola (with Picture Sleeve!) - 150 GBP o.n.o. SOLD Without a doubt the rarest format for this R&B in-demander! Unlike the US release on Modern this little beauty here is pressed on solid vinyl and plays without any background noise at all. Vinyl is in EX condition but has a very little edge warp which doesn't affect play at all! The cover is in VG- condition only with the lower seam cellotaped. 2) James Royal - I've lost you - German CBS (with original Promotion sleeve!) - 40 GBP o.n.o. According to Manship's site this great cover of the Jackie Wilson classic was a UK-only release. That's not correct, here you have the very hard to find german CBS release complete with its pre-release promotion sleeve. Pressed on heavy vinyl it plays in EX condition, almost M-. Sleeve is EX condition as well. See scans. 3) The Steelers - Get it from the bottom/I'm sorry - German CBS (with Picture sleeve!) - 8 GBP Looking for unusual releases? How about this german oddity? Haven't seen or heard of this release before until I picked one up last week, it sure is a hard one. Pressed on heavy vinyl it plays in EX condition. Sleeve is VG condition. See scans. Please PM for further informations, post is 3 GBP regular in Europe, 5 GBP registered in Europe, more for post outside Europe and less for post in Germany. Insurance post possible as well. Paypal or cash please Soundfiles available on request!

  7. I agree but what puzzles me, the Penniman reissue has a fantastic sound quality from what I remember so they sure haven't dubbed it from one of the bootlegs/reissues but at least from the original acetate or even master tape? Is there really no hint on the label or producer on the acetate?
  8. I guess there've been more than just one or two different labels called "Big City". I mean, it's not the most imaginative name in the world, is it?
  9. There are always two views on everything. My view and the wrong one...
  10. Thanks for confirming. Not that I would have lost any sleep over it but when I saw the Mr. Lucky scan I started wondering...
  11. I've just noticed the copy of Mr. Lucky "I was born to love you" on Stardom that is currently on Ebay. The label scan shows the record was written and produced by a certain Lucky Davis, I assume that he's singing as well (too much of a name coincidence IMO) but is he also Lucky Davis (as on Highland 45s) and maybe even Luckey Jamal Davis ("Love is better"/"Vacate" on Big City)? Mr. Lucky on Stardom was from L.A. and I understand Highland Records were from L.A. as well so my theory might be true? Does anyone know where the Big City 45 was from. Doesn't give any info on its label...
  12. did they at least have the rights to issue the tracks? Anyone?

I seem to remember the Diplomats became the Skullsnaps? So were they the Puzzles as well in between? Or am I mixing up?
  14. I agree, as bizarre (or naughty? ) as "smelling vinyl" may sound. Even if it was still sealed and stored away in a dry room for 30 odd years there's a huge difference in smell and 'feeling' of vinyl and cover between a recent press and one done 20/30 odd years ago.
  15. Ah, thanks for that. Of course I know Sven and the Munich Blues bunch...
  16. Dave, your site is useful but not if access from the office PC is blocked! Thing is, I have both records and both have visible distinct cellotape residues in the run out grooves. They had been played covered up at one time or the other. I know that my copy of the Masquaders once belonged to Soul Sam but did he played it covered up? M.B.S. is for Modern Blues Sound. A very obscure record that is one of my alltime favourites. Don't know if RM spun it. I first heard it on a tape recording of the 1990 Yarmouth Weekender radio station, it may has been Rob who played it (uncovered I shall add). Am just trying to know a bit more about the history of two of my most beloved records
  17. Does anyone know the cover up names (and maybe the DJ who played them first) for: Masquaders - The same thing - Soultown The M.B.S. - Another day - B-Jet TIA Benji
  18. Sorry, doesn't really ring any bells, are they the bunch from Bremen? Maybe I know them but not under this moniker I'm afraid Due to other commitments my active days on the scooter scene are long gone now. Still got a rusty T5 to go around the city and attend the odd run or two each year but that's about it. Oh, and I got a TS1 equipped LI Special in parts and bits at my parents. I hope to get it back on the road this or next year...
  19. In Germany the Northern Soul scene wouldn't have survived after it's first peak in the mid/late 80s without the scooter scene. At a typical Northern Soul allnighter in the mid 90s I estimate at least 75% of the punters had either scooters or had a scooterist background.
  20. It was mentioned in another thread that John Manship valued it at 25 in one of his earlier bootleg guides. Think that's more appropriate hence a price reduction. Please PM me, this thread will be closed to stop chit-chat posts
  21. Your posts come across as you didn't really get the difference between a discussion and a sales thread did you?
  22. I didn't say it will end up 8K on auction. I did say it's not worth more than 8K. I'm fully aware of how records can exceed their true value in auctions. The reason why I don't join the "estimate the end price of FW" game is pretty simple: I can't be bothered. I think FW is a fantastic record and with only 2 copies known to the public one of the rarest Northern Soul records too. But I'm not really excited about the news that a copy will soon be auctioned. If John Manship said a mint copy of the Mello Souls will be auctioned soon I'd be drooling...
  23. Well, thanks for Pete for pointing out that this is a sales thread (actually my sales thread for those who didn't know). I think it's basic netiquette not to discuss prices or having a go at somebodys asking price in the very same thread. I'm sure each and every seller welcomes positive posts in his/her threads but we all can do without any "i think it's worth only 1/10 of what you're asking for mate" or "this is a shite record" crap can't we?
  24. One question that I don't think has been discussed before. The reported 15K that Kenny B. paid for FW (only partially in cash I recall?), was this the winning bid in an auction or was this the asking price or was this the final offer that Tim Brown/Martin Koppell couldn't refuse? In my opinion when compared to other NS records of equal rarity and quality it shouldn't be worth more than the 8K that Pete Smith estimates.
