  1. Be influenced by other D.J’s by all means, but don’t tread on any toes - A fine line to tread. Maybe ‘tip your cap’ to someone that has done so on the mike (It kinda gives you licence to ‘play with pride’) Ooops, you said ‘Tip’ not ‘Tips’ Mike! Len
  2. As has been said - The night isn't all about you, listen to and enjoy the other D.J's records, and the whole night - The D.J bit is just an added extra to your evening's 'adventure'. Len
  3. Play Soul Music...... Len
  4. Don't swear over the mike, unless you're Scottish......it just don't sound right else - and is so uncouth. Len
  5. ......try not to cry until you get home Len
  6. Absolutely.....but if you feel you need to do that to often, try thinking a bit more about offering something else from your collection. Len

  10. Well just for you 'Geeselad' here's a better picture. Have a good weekend folks. All the best, Len.
  11. Well that was an interesting thread guyz, I’m gonna ‘sign off’ by saying - ‘Northern Soul’ is archaic now, and I’m sure it will develop in its own way into something pretty different in the long run. …….If I see a Ford Capri drive past me nowadays, I think to myself “Arrrr, that’s pretty cool”…..If I see an old Classic Car drive past, I think “Blimey” with a smile on my face. Keep enjoying what ya do - None of us are experts, so let’s ‘allow’ ourselves to be entertained by whoever is sharing their records with us - We’re supposed to be having fun! All the best, Len
  12. Yes, obviously (Well actually, to some it don't!).....My point is, some have no real interest in keeping it fresh / 'providing a quality product' (if you like), as long as people keep turning up and paying their money. There is a hell of a difference to a club run by someone that is in it for the right reasons - It feeds right through the event (To me anyway) All the best, Len ......Sorry, if it's gone 'off topic' (again) does it really matter at times?.....
  13. I'm afraid so......now I'm slipping back into my 'Mourning for The Scene' - B*gger, we need to stop it! ........'On the positive' - The Scene is developing in places, with great small clubs popping up here and there, that stand out because they are run by people that do it because they love it (the music).....and were more than likely around 'back in the day' (1990's!!!) All the best, Len
  14. Just Soul for me mate (which can include 'some of the above') .....Isn't there an event called 'Just Soul'? - I like it, I like it a lot btw Len
  15. I blame the promoters more than the D.J's - It is their job to 'guide' an event. Some are just settling for the lazy 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' angle, due to numbers through the door - Their choice of course, but I don't like it. When I say 'going no where' - That is as far as I'm concerned, and that goes for any input I have on events I help to run - My aim is to keep it soulful and as interesting as I possibly can (within that), which influences the choices I make with ref D.J's I use (Obviously) All the best, Len
  16. Was it? Ok, in short - no where.........Meaning it doesn't need to 'go anywhere' - For example, read the latest 'really' long record sales list - How many of those titles do you actually know?......There are still thousands of 'good soul' records waiting to be played at our venues All the best, Len
  17. Yes - 'It's' a great Dancer....not so sure about me though - but I have a good 'bash' at it! Len
  18. Yeh, that's about right....."different generation of people that were enjoying tunes that had been played to 'not many' through the 80's , 'as well as' everything else"......Enjoying The Wilton, Winsford 100 Club etc, 'as well as' Keele - As you say, the people were there. All the best, Len
  19. You can't imagine that situation today - I remember the odd occasion The 100 Club clashed with another nighter, that was a very rare occasion. Len
  20. The Oldies All-nighter at The Ritz in Manchester being a great example - We actually didn't go for a time.....until one day we were in a Pizza Restaurant in London (4 of us, that were at a nighter most weekends during that time).......when someone said "Hey, f*ck it - lets go to The Ritz"....So, off we went hurtling up the Motorway to 'an Oldies All-nighter'!.......and had a fantastic time! .......Oh, to have no responsibilities All the best, Len
  21. It would be nice if some at least 'attempted' to understand the present! Len
  22. TUNE! - Played at The Wilton, only last year Len
  23. No - I should know......I wasn't there! Len
  24. That may have been a 'turning point', but to me all those venues at that time had a different generation of people that were enjoying tunes that had been played to 'not many' through the 80's , as well as everything else - The 'attitude' was there, and that is the massive difference to todays (so called) Scene. All the best, Len
  25. I was gonna say - It's better than some of the sh*te I've heard played at SOUL events.......Anyway mate - It 'hit a cord' with me, as it was played on the Mod Scene in the 80's.....and I like it (don't tell though )...... ....and I have it sitting on my shelf still to this day - Keep it mate Len
