  1. First run out for this event and an opportunity for those who want to hear lots of different stuff in one of the most picturesque parts of Yorkshire, a run out in every sense of the word!, theres no current function inthis neck of the woods, really attempting to offer an alternative to the production line oldies function, not as far as i can see....quote if wrong. If Lancs can have a flag bearer like Ashton Uky, then White Rose County should offer something up on a similar par. So, our local djs must have stuff in their collections that dosnt normally see light of day...here's an ideal opportunity to put yourselves forward!. This, all being well, will be a 500 ' avoidance venue, nothing wrong with the all time classics we love, its just a case of, well lets try the stuff we dont hear out very much, if not at all, and tunes that really havent been given justice. Personally, ive seen Lowton Civic, The Lea Manor and most recently, Ashton Uky and Culcheth, 2 different decades but all sharing the same vision: play from the collections, open people's ears and minds and give folk numbers they can dance to without it being oldies repetition. Its a compact venue, which certainly has the makings for a great atmosphere, ' a change is as good as a rest ' says it all .....scenery, venue and music rolled into one....something new to do...in yorkshire!!
  2. I mean...50 years for the media to come to terms with this thing, they'll never truly understand, get to grips, sit easy with it...they still want to gloss it like some Hollywood show...it isnt Wrexham fc ( though, very best of luck to those boys, make hay whilst the sun shines ) It has been said to me, only a day ago, that if youre going to do a 50th anni at the WG, its a bit remiss not to include Winstanley, Brady & Vincent...the rift will always be...i wonder if Charles or Maconie are planning to attend that and if theyll ask that question?
  3. A little less than 20 i thinkπŸ˜‰πŸ‘...great renaissance mid to late 90's, folks sabaticles over, doing whatever they did...the scene really did explode globally....the past 20 years has seen a calendar overload, regardless of the fact a good many are now collecting their pensions...including me,very soon!😁 personally, ive witnessed Brighouse Ritz, Lowton Civic, Tsop Prestwich, Winsford, Kgh, Kings Hall, 100 Club, Lea Manor...and great stuff now such as Ashton Uky club. Enthusiasm isnt dimming even if the body is slowing up. Not listened to 6 or watched the proms, but i guess its obvious opinion was always gonna be divided on their tributes and media involvement. We just keep doing what we do, get out there, enjoy the scene and live for today.
  4. Yep, there's my #1 venue: Manchester Ritz and....the best Rare Soul All Nighter EVER, May Day Bank Holiday....worth a fiver ( as it was 2k ) of anyones money.
  5. Tried requesting, pending......anyone answering please?.....πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€ Hope this isnt a " we value your call, please hold the line for an operator " scenario?? C'mon lads...wake up!!!!
  6. Chalky, Are we referring to the guy who's advertising the ( Sold Out ) book or the previous incumbent of angst youve mentioned? Only saw the thread yesterday and im seething there were only 300 copies and theyve gone quicker than hey presto....who the f... has snapped em all up?? Never mind all the logistics of cost, when you venture into something you must have an idea about how much interest it will create? He's gone to the trouble of the painstaking research, then appears weighed how many he needs just to break even or make a little bit and cut everyone else loose in the lifeboat... Its potentially one of the most important books for a good while, best seller maybe not, but theres deffo plenty more avid readers who want it in their collection.....bloody frustrating isnt the word here!! I know one major record dealer who would take a copy of this
  7. And exactly where is the ambition, to bring this to a wider audience,? when publishing is limited to 300 copies. He probably reckoned that was sufficient to cover his overheads. The hullabaloo to bring this to folks attention with the current narrative....and nobody can purchase it, because its already sold out!, why bother putting it out there ( or rather on here ) when the horse has already bolted? So...we just werent fast or astute enough?
  8. This looks to be a must have book. To date, has anyone in the uk received an actual copy, so as they can offer up comments?. Hope its not a " if it looks to good to be true, it usually is " fiasco....with folk being ripped off for none existant product. Only 300?, surely a limit such as that, cant be right either?, i mean...consider just how many people would be interested in something of this nature?.
  9. Routes into Shrewsbury: The Town is well serviced/easy to get to via: A458 A5 A49 A53 M54 & M6 There are also great bus and train services too. Ample parking onsite Anyone fancy making a weekend of it, recommended accomodation is available with 2 travelodges ( Bayston Hill & Battlefield ) Holiday Inn @ Emstrey and Premier Inn on quayside...lots of Air bnbs on offer too. Great pubs, independant town centre hotels, restaurants and cafes. A fabulous sight seeing destination too, with lots of history and architecture...PLUS!, a fantastic night of soul music at THE CHURCH....Shrewsbury's ' Best kept secret 'πŸ€«πŸ˜‰πŸ‘βοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈπŸŽ΅πŸ’ƒπŸ•ΊπŸŽΆ
  10. I can honestly say that Tim is quite often, more than surprised at what some of the items he auctions, realize monetarily. Personally, i dont compare anyone elses site to be as good or realistic as Anglo American. There have been some staggeringly rare items auctioned here, they continue to do so as private collectors begin to let go of their treasures, a good many of which may never have seen a sale or auction since they were first purchased...and perhaps a few that afficianados may never have heard of?
  11. No mandate to play tried and tested classics, lots of tuneage will plenty legs, that needs playing too!...expect something differentπŸ˜‰πŸ‘
  12. Yes, i missed it by 20 mins.....if it had gone up at 5am this morning, i wouldve beat the burglers to it!!🀣🀣
  13. Agentsmith posted a topic in Record Wants
True Love - Jamie Anyone want to sell for the right price please?
  14. I was at that all nighter, distinctly remember 3 people in the final, dance-off on the stage...the two guys were backdropping and all the pyrotechnics to win but you just danced!....and won itπŸ˜‰πŸ‘only thing i wasnt sure about was, whether it was 74 or 75...you set the record straight there.
  15. Agentsmith posted a soul guide event in Soul Nights

Quality tuneage, across the board 60 n 70's club Soul, Northern, Rnb, Motown classics and twist of ska!πŸ˜‰πŸ‘βοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈπŸŽ΅πŸ’ƒπŸ•ΊπŸŽΆ
  16. Nobody could touch Richard for c/ups!, every tune there, an absolute smash...even without Christine Cooper and Bobby JasonπŸ˜‰πŸ‘
  17. Absolutely spot on with that observation, the ultimate orchestral arrangement....suprised Maconie missed that....what a glaring error!
  18. I remember Neil telling me about his meeting with Joey Jefferson, when he came back from the states, at his shop in Lichfield St, Walsall...i think Joey packed a gun...and was a bit wary of Neil on account of not knowing who he was?
  19. Steve, been looking forward for ages pal!, coming down tomorrow instead make a proper long weekend of it....fingers crossed the weather holds, she be a cracker!πŸ˜‰πŸ‘πŸŒžπŸ˜Ž
  20. Packed and ready, records sorted, fuelled up, 120 miles to cover but passes very quickly. Always worth a stopover in Shrewsbury, and deffo after a long drive but, so much to see and do there as well as attending this fabulous venue. Ive mentioned before there are lots of hotel, bnbs etc and at pretty much market prices. Shrewsbury train station is a junction from where you can reach any destination, and the m54 motorway network is close by as well as main arteries, the A49 and A52. Please try and arrive early if you require πŸ˜‰πŸ‘seating and this tends to go quick. The start of a great May Day bank holiday weekend begins, right here at the Madonic Hall, or Soul @ The Church as we know it. Be safe travelling and looking forward to seeing you all there.
  21. Ah....thats hung in the wardrobe still....i couldnt match Ted's stunning attire, let alone his records😁 i do occasionally try to look half decent...hope the music's not too bad eitherπŸ˜‰πŸ‘
  22. A quick calendar check reveals, there's nothing else on in Shropshire this Saturday night so, unless youre thinking of travelling further afield, then Shrewsbury has to be a very good decision!, fast coming up to holiday time as well and this is the last function before summer recess, get your shoes polished, and be prepared for a night of quality tuneage!....hopefully see a few more new faces/visitors alongside the regular crew. Soul at the Chirch is for dancers only!πŸ˜‰πŸ‘πŸŽ΅πŸ’ƒπŸ•ΊπŸŽΆβοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈ
