  1. Agentsmith commented on Agentsmith's event in Alldayers

Just a heads up as we approach the weekend. It being the first Bank Holiday of 2025, and the longest ( 4 days ) and probably most popular, Shrewsbury is very much a destination town, full of history, lots going on and extremely busy with tourists and traffic. Anyone looking for accommodation, i've already listed the best, occasioning the fact they have parking facilities, mostly in with the cost of rooms. Listed here are their geographical positions in relation to the town, 3 are within walking distance, the others between 10 and 15 mins from town centre. For that purpose ive also provided here the main municipal car parks, again short walking distances from the venue. ABBEY FOREGATE IS FREE ON BANK HOLIDAYS ST JULIAN'S & FRIARS: HALF PRICE ( 60p per hour ) FRANKWELL & RAVEN MEADOW may differ, also there may be a max all day payment but, theyre large car parks so there should be plenty of space....as always, best to arrive EARLY, as the function begins at 13:00pm!πŸ˜‰πŸ‘
  2. R.i.p. Ted Massey Personally, i met him first early 80's, busy collecting uk releases, bought a few off me. Think he was already djing for a while by then but early days. Ted scaled the heights essentially, on pretty much most of the platforms that count. He bulit himself a wonderfully colourful and intuitive collection of records, that cemented his reputation with the masses...much in the same way that he nurtured and cultivating his beloved garden...his other great past time....even the shirts showed him as an outgoing person...and he coloured our worlds with his dj sets. I can't justify giving the people concerned who performed such an abhorrent act against him, any creedance other than to say...i sincerely hope you search your consciences. It's a black day for us all, but in remembrance in coming days and weeks, we'll celebrate the life and accomplishments of this man and uphold nothing but good memories of him. Gone before your time May your soul now rest in eternal peace God bless, TedπŸ™

If you're planning to attend and coming in via car: parking at Abbey Foregate ( bottom end of town by Asda ) is FREE on Monday. A large car park, about 10-12 min walk to venue. St Julian's & Friars ( just off town walls by BT building ) is 60p an hour but there is also a max charge for all day. Kingsland Bridge ( adjacent to Town Walls ) has limited parking Β£5 for all day. Baker Street car park is next door to venue. Quite pricey at Β£2:80 an hour!, not sure if there's an all day charge allowed on there. There's also an NCP at the rear of Premier Inn on Riverside, 5 mins from venue.

The man who puts together soul events in Shrewsbury and Shropshire, from time to time, and a veteran of the scene, DON FORBES. very knowledgeable and intuitive, always looking to invite guests with collections and not necessarily current djs...which has to be a good format. Definitely should be in for an interesting afternoon/evening of quality soul from the dead good rare to plainly obvious classics brilliance...bit of a melting pot of all thats soulful!.πŸ˜‰πŸ‘

  20. Loved going on the train to Brum, Mal...mid to late 70's me so, probably already missed out on the ' crate digging ' that would've been going on, afew years earlier. Remember Lester Marriner's shop, Reddington's ( in the subway before hurst st and the bullring ). Then the Oasis...and the Rag Market was great for tune hunting. Birmingham was a vibrant place then,...now, well....in recent years it's changed beyond all recognition...much like Wolverhampton. I remember visiting Reddington's in 98, some 29 years after the last occasion, it was now a single shop in Corporation street, across from the station, ground floor and basement...all those memories gone. I never did get to visit the Diskery, another famous shop, but doubtless, yourself and other folk, frequented that place too.
  21. Wow!, what a ride that story was!, and thoroughly enjoyed reading it too....an extraordinary composite, speed reading it would leave anyone out of breath..it started out slow and accelerated as the decades passed by...which is consequentially, how perhaps all of our lives have mapped out...childhood dragged, yet adulthood has gone at light speed!....great pictures too, and oomph!!, right at the start it's the legendary Johnny Pate and that 64k question about Earl Jackson...the answer to which, we will never know. And breathe!πŸ˜‰πŸ‘

Along with Don Forbes and Dave Stubbs hosting, The Celtic Captain, Anglesey's very own dj of the high seas Steve Thomas, will be bringing his own brand of essential tuneage to Shropshire's capital. And i'll be chipping jn a few worthwhile additions to the collection myself. Hopefully the weather will be kind to us and make it as special Bank Holiday out, by the River Severn. Completely FREE admission for this so, the more that turn up, the merrier it gets!πŸ˜‰πŸ‘πŸŽ΅πŸ’ƒπŸ•ΊπŸŽΆβοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈ
  23. Chalky correct, nail on the head...it's about records getting a legitimate first release in this country and yes of course, if the American release came first then it's de facto that is the copt to play....but everyone and their finances, are different....a 2hole heap of wanted tunes exist in minute quantities....and if the chances are, the average aspiring dj is never going to be able to afford the rocking-horse rare, theyre going to see what's on offer legitimately. A super rare, but universally appreciated tune, can only be played in so many places in one time, but if it get's a legit uk issue ( and any parties or estates benefit from royalties or a windfall from sales ), in essence, it's helping to spread the word and popularity....and at the same time, as the global market is showing, the originals are no being devalued...like how folk maybe thought in the mid 70's and 80's...because theyre now ' antiques ' their values have increased substantially. Everybody's thought dna is different on this subject...isn't it a win-win circumstance if some long forgotten artist is actually getting their music played, and appreciated by a whole bunch of folk?, they may have failed monetarily, but the sound they created, didn't. the uk releases we've witnessed this last quarter century are as important as the one's soulies and mods alike, chased in the 60's....the 70's was important becahse it began the process of issukng tunes here, that actually never got a look in, or weren't discovered/known about 7 or 8 years previous. They all have their worth, whichever way we look at it.
