Hi All it,s not Alan Lane or Ian stewart I know them both from do's down there I've got a feeling now his name was JERRY and the Cambridge thing might fit, I know it took him ages to get to the Casino on the train. He always used to sit immediately on the left of the record bar as you walked through the middle "doors" (exit) from the back of the dance floor. His record box had about 6 sections across and was massive. I have an old address book somewhere i'll try and find it. Rob

Hi Mark good thread, tried to wade my way through it and would like to add a few names on to the list. We were rooted in the record bar, but when Richard was at his peak you got someone to look after your sales box and headed for the floor. The worst night I can remember was a Saturday after a "Wigan & Wheel" Oldies "Mid-month" all nighter on the Friday, it was F**king freezing inside, we kept our coats on ! about 200 in. No atmosphere at all. We got up there at 1.30 am in time for Richards spot and then drove home when he'd done ! Names from that time haunting the record bar. Derek Pearson, Eddie Hubard, George Sharp, Rod Shard, Chris Shaw, Garry Churm, Gary Speddings, Neil Salter (Robins big bro) Rob Lythal (correct spelling?) Dave Withers, Hoppy, Tim Ashebende, a shy bloke called Mark Dobson, Keith Minshull, Gilly, Kev (Burton) Also who was the guy that travelled from the Cotswolds/ Cheltenham every week to sell records . He had a huge record box, mainly UK stuff and used to hump it to the train station in the morning very well spoken, (Julian?) Long hair. He might have been at university as well Bus trip boys Steve , Mart and Bri, Dean, Julian Sigee, Mark hopes, Jerry & Jimmy, paul wheatcroft and the rest of the Mansfield lot. Happy daze Rob Wigley

Good news I've noticed a shift recently as well, but the music is the key, I think these people are sick to death of being "spoon fed" re-hashed music over electronic tracks and will go out and search for "real" music. Time very soon to hand over the batton peeps-- Rob

Just think how much Motown lost on the SS bootlegs--( Eddie Foster around 1977-78) heard talk of 30,000 pressed . It was a huge record in its day so the Tamla Motown release was slightly after the fact. But remember it was covered up for ages and there was as much talk about it then as now-- I remember a Black Echoes article, who is Eddie Foster ? with betting being laid down for the real artist- It really is "The Holy Grail" of Northern / Motown Collecting Just put the lottery on again £7 Million jackpot tonight- Rob

If you mean by authentication, a 'certificate' of authenticity, as there would be for a signed or initialled painting, then no, vinyl records are the certificate of authenticity. A vinyl record (or a CD) is the way in which the music industry creates, brands, publishes and certifies the pulsing waves of energy (sound) that its artists create, so the hot stamped foil label and the sleeve, liner notes, names, addresses and logos are the certificate of authenticity for the sounds and images that are vended to the bearer, if that makes sense. From the information that I have been able to gather this is a genuine article, on a genuine, rare and sought after label, and a well known and highly sought after artist. You can't even send it back !! Rob

Love this thread, DILY-IID, is a record that's a bit like Marmite, you either love it or hate it, it has been controversial from the day it was played at the Casino. I doubt if there is one collector on here who would not like to acutally own it, including myself...but we are looking at the wrong end of a YEARS wages to get it, so failing a lottery win its out of the question. This record will actually sell quite cheaply if Kenny crumbles. It will be going back to the USA, as the $ to £ rate is to the US collectors advantage at the moment so a price of $35,000 is probably $15,000 cheaper than they would have paid last year. You also have to take into account John's commission on the deal, (how about a TV prog. "Manship's real deal ?" -sorry john !) But there are winners all the way around what ever happens 1) John has listed it for sale for the first time ever (?) 2) Kenny sells and makes a nice profit 3) Kenny turns down the largest ammount ever offered for a soul 45 in the world 4) Michael Jackson gets involved to piss off Berry Gordy and buys it through his Saudi mates 5) Tim Brown buys it and snaps it in half (see Den Macs post) 6) Ian Levine (hello Ian) brings in a TV production crew and we have a hours channel 4 special (no at daft as it seems, is it? -I want a bonus if you do it) and the sound track is in place. 7) The Media converge on Melton Mowbray for the final results, the Mayor of Melton bestows the freedom of the pie town on John So I am watching this with great interest- "reality Record dealing" at its best Love it ! The Super Bad thread got me thinking which was the first SOUL "various artists" compelation album ? Either from a label (got to be Motown ?) or gathered up from varrious places UK and US and what sort of date are we talking ? These albums take me back to the early 70s and remind me of my Brother-in-law and working with him during the school summer holidays to make some cash for records. He bough a brand new Datsun 160 sss and it had an 8 track player in it, he hammered these albums plus a few more compilations--He drives a F**cking Bentley Now How times change ! Rob
