  4. It's ok I pay tax! And that was 8 years ago. I paid tax then also.
  5. Think it was Mr Lucky 'I was born to love you'. Paid £800, sold for four times that a week later. But that was just to make some money, can't stand the record. Most I paid for one for myself was probably £500 for Johnnie Mae Matthews 'I have no choice'. Which I also sold a few weeks later. Can't and never have been able to afford expensive records but then again, have only ever really collected British and there aren't that many mega many items there.
  6. Searling was the only one I ever heard play Dawn.
  7. Absolutely brilliant instrumental!
  8. Chalky - make sure you take some money to pay for all those transatlantic phone calls and whatever else it cost you, nobody will mind and you should do it anyway.
  9. Got to admit I really enjoyed that, good version too, except the kazoo right at the end
  10. Thanks Chris...something a bit different
  11. Paul, many years later I discovered that Graham, the Selectavision owner, and Sid, his engineer, were both Cats regulars. You should have seen some of the records I got off Sid, well no doubt you did see them, everything I asked him for he seemed to have; april stevens on black mgm, when they started playing Bella Dalena he bought out an unplayed UK copy, ditto Flirtations little darling, Mirwood things, all sorts. Apparently he moved to Scotland but still has the records. Every time I walk past that shop (closed in 1981) I get a lump in my throat. As for first ever Northern records. Difficult because I had Northern records before I knew what Northern was. I had In Orbit and Festival Time in 1972 (somehow went home with them from a party ) but the one that put me on the road was the Cherub pressing of Butch Baker - The Jocker (sic) I played that til it nearly wore out, I just could not believe the intensity of the beat...and when some lads came to our youth club and gave the dj Tim Nightingale some records to play, then did an amazing dancing display, that was it, I got a pressing of Tainted Love the following friday from Ruby Red, this would be late 74, the time of Ghost In My House, Javells and Wayne Gibson charting. Funny that I can remember stuff like that but literally nothing from 1978 onwards...
  12. Chalky, this is always a problem when you reach a target and there's too much money. As the money was collected specifically for Percy's family - and you say they are not at all well off anyway - I doubt if many would mind if you gave them the rest of the money. Just my opinion.
  13. Was Alan Rhodes for definite, then Russ, then everyone else, Rhodesy also first to play Colored Man
  14. I like that - put it on one of my podcasts recently, sounded fantastic
  15. Best thing to do is that now the money has been raised, pay the funeral home and then leave them all to get on with it.
  16. Right are you sure you want it stopped Chalky, I'll email everyone and tell them if you're sure.
  17. I love Rain. I like Boogie Man Orchestra as well. Rain used to sound brilliant at Wigan with all the clapping.
  18. Again and Again by Judith Durham. Beautiful string arrangement, great vocal, love it.
  19. The people on my mailing list are brilliant John (as are the people on here). They always respond like this.
  20. Got this email this morning: Hello Pete, what an unbelievable story. Sad, sad. Sent Roy a tenner, but what is more important: Copied the infos to my facebook site. Hope this will help. Best Ralf must be nearly there now?
  21. Fine, I bow down to your superior everything John.
  22. Yes that is extremely annoying! That especially happens on gemm.
  23. Are these two sites basically the same site with different names, because practically everything on one site can be found on the other!
  24. It's actually around $530 Chalky. Use this site www.xe.com
