  1. Hmm. A tricky one. Because there's horns and drums in one channel, cymbals and bass in another, just as if it were a stereo record.
  2. Thats the same as SW upside down Alan it can be read either way, you njust have to play it now see if it's stereo and from what we've learned so far, it should be.
  3. There would be no reason for them to reissue it 1969 though - it didn't get reissued here til 74 and that was after Out Of The Past bootlegged it. I'm pretty convinced it's real.

Way before my time Grandad, didn't even know that had been played, just always thought it was a soul pack filler!

Well what was their big Northern record?
  6. Len Barry's version is great, and it's as fast as the jackie Trent one, in fact it got played alomgside it for a few weeks - brilliant version, so is the Ronnettes actually. When I said I had an Aussie version, I might be getting mixed up - I actually have an Aussie version of "Send her away", the b side of You baby

    Is it the Four Tops?
  8. Yes he does, took a while for that to get popular though, about 20 years!
  9. is that the one I recorded, has Chapter Five, Lydia Marcelle, Anthony White etc? Fantastic sound quality, for some reason sat on the stage that night and recorded from there, it was half empty.
  10. If only someone could have given them lessons

    Mitch Ryder & detroit wheels?
  12. It's certainly not UK mate, the C's are unmistakable.
  13. Cheers for that Bogue but I haven't got a f*cking clue what you're talking about
  14. Well this is a bit of a mystery so far, a record hundreds of us know and own and nobody else has got a stereo copy? I own a FREAK!
  15. Mine is the same as the picture on the left Roger
  16. Not saying it doesn't, but it saves the stress of wtahcing to see if someone outbids you, and it also stops me changing my mind and bidding higher than I originally wanted to!
  17. Thats rubbish I'm afraid, sniping is invaluable, it's got nothing to do with getting things cheap, it's about not showing your hand. I've won over 3,000 records from $2 to $1000 using it.
  18. They'll be too heavy for second class, best way is parcel post.
  19. I will offer £35 (has anyone actually made any offers Ezzie?)
  20. have rejigged a couple of prices here and there...
  21. Where's Mr John Manship when you need him...
  22. PETE SMITH 14 MARKET LANE LOWER PENN WOLVERHAMPTON WV4 4UJ 01902 340255 07784 507360 Pete.smith@freeuk.com HI, WELCOME TO THIS WEEKS LIST AND THERE’S SOME CRACKING STUFF THIS WEEK INCLUDING AN UNUSUALLY LARGE AMOUNT OF RARE DEMOS FOR SOME REASON. ALL RECORDS ARE CONSERVATIVELY GRADED AND COMPETITIVELY PRICED! THE EX GRADE IS VERY STRONG. NAP = NOT AFFECTING PLAY US ORIGINALS THE ARTISTICS – HOPE WE HAVE – BRUNSWICK YELLOW DEMO EX 60 SOLD Can’t tell you how tough this is to find, a very very rare demo – also has the lovely I’m Gonna Miss You on the other side of course. Couple of marks NAP. MAXINE BROWN – AM I FALLING IN LOVE – ABC DEMO EX 60 Great copy, vinyl BOBBIE JEAN BLAND – I’M SATISFIED JUST LOVING YOU – SACK M- 60 SOLD Classic gritty Chicago sound, big voiced lady vocals. Tough one to find. WILLIAM BONNY – LOVE LOVE LOVE – MERCURY EX 20 Great version, a real old Torch stomper TOWANDA BARNES – YOU DON’T MEAN IT – A & M DEMO EX 85 SOLD Fantastic oldie THE CLOVERS – TRY MY LOVON’ ON YOU – JOSIE DEMO EX- 40 SOLD Plays fine but has a couple of marks on the vinyl, hence price THE CHARMAINES – ETERNALLY – DATE DEMO M- 30 Forgotten Mecca oldie THE CAPTIONS – DON’T TAKE YOUR ARMS AWAY FROM ME – MILLAGE M 40 SOLD Beautiful midtempo group sound, stunning GENE CHANDLER – I CAN TAKE CARE OF MYSELF – CONSTELLATION VG++ 25 SOLD This is the “Constellation” stars design label, lovely BILLIE DEARBORN – YOU NEED ME TO LOVE YOU – BELL DEMO EX- 40 Used to be a £100+ record a few years back – nice midtempo/beat ballad girl 45 JOEY DEE & THE STARLIGHTERS – IT’S GOT YOU – JUBILEE DEMO EX 40 Totally mad Wigan oldie from the very early days – weird space sound effects subside to a real stomper in the old fashioned sense of the word. Don’t think it gets much turntable time nowadays but it’s one of those ‘lost’ oldies and I know for a fact I’ve never had a copy before. THE ENTERTAINERS – LOVE IN MY HEART – SYMBOL DEMO EX+ 100 SOLD Absolute belter, rare white demo of this floorpacker, good price too THE EMBERS – IT AIN’T NO BIG THING – BELL DEMO EX 25 Great version SKIP EASTERLING – KEEP THE FIRE BURNING – ALON EX- 35 SOLD Someone asked me to keep them the next copy of this I got but I’m afraid I lost the note I made of who it was, sorry – New Orleans stormer, brilliant dancer, few marks NAP JACKIE EDWARDS – KEEP ON RUNNING – WIRL VG++ 40 SOLD The rare original version, not sure if there was a USA release, few marks but this is a great copy considering the state that they are usually in SAM FLETCHER – I’D THINK IT OVER – TOLLIE DEMO EX- 260 Definite styrene original – only EX- due to some superficial marks – plays beautifully and still packs the floor of course. DARROW FLETCHER – THE PAIN GETS A LITTLE DEEPER – GROOVY EX 25 Wheel classic PHIL FLOWERS – DISCONTENTED – DOT DEMO M- 40 Beautiful looking green demo of this Torch classic TOMMY GOOD – BABY I MISS YOU – GORDY EX 50 SOLD Brilliant Motown dancer, good version of Leaving Here on the B side as well ROY HANDY – BABY THAT’S A GROOVE – STEPHANYE WHITE DEMO M 50 This looks brilliant as a white demo – might be the first I’ve ever had ISAAC HAYES – LAURA / SWEET TEMPTATION – SAN AMERICAN EX 20 Incredibly this books at 100 quid elsewhere, no idea why! Early tracks, 63-64. CHUCK JACKSON – HAND IT OVER – WAND DEMO EX 30 SOLD Rare demo and has the bonus of having the gorgeous Look Over Your Shoulder on the B side JIMMY JONES – WALKIN’ – ROULETTE M- 30 SOLD Old 100 Club biggie JERRY JACKSON – IT’S ROUGH OUT THERE – PARKWAY DEMO EX 115 SOLD With the absolutely phenomenal I’m Gonna Paint A Picture on the B side, this is about as good a double sider that exists. Vinyl is EX, there is a small label stain top left and a small name in biro at the bottom. B side also has a small stain in the same place but no writing. WALTER JACKSON – IT’S AN UPHILL CLIMB TO THE BOTTOM – OKEH DEMO EX- 25 Killer beat ballad. B side label has water damage to a third of the label MARV JOHNSON – COME ON AND STOP – UNITED ARTISTS DEMO M 60 SOLD Possibly an unplayed copy. FRAN JEFFRIES – GONE NOW – MONUMENT DEMO EX 50 Tiny little edge bend not affecting play – half book price MARY ELLEN (GRAHAM) – FORGETFULNESS – GRAMO VG++ 125 An unknown to me, excellent (black) girl vocals, midtempo dancer, nice B side too but no idea what it’s called as presumably whoever was promoting the disc only wanted the A side played so they stuck some tape over the title of the B side! On a tiny Los Angeles indie, this one books at 250 quid! (B side is Still Waters Run Deep and is very indemand on the popcorn scene - thanks to Adam for the info) BARBARA MERCER – CALL ON ME – CAPITOL DEMO EX 40 Two class sides from Detroit’s Sidra label POINTER SISTERS – SEND HIM BACK – ATLANTIC DEMO EX 80 SOLD Has one mark NAP otherwise gorgeous, on vinyl too for a change, last ones I’ve had have been styrene. JOAN REGAN – DON’T TALK TO ME ABOUT LOVE – COLUMBIA DEMO M- 40 With a nice promotional picture sleeve of Miss Regan too THE SENSATIONS WITH YVONNE BAKER – I CAN’T CHANGE – JUNIOR DEMO EX- 50 The rare first issue # 1010, Mend The Torn Pieces of course on the flip, this is a rare demo, again one or two marks so price adjusted THE SWEET THREE – I WOULD IF I COULD – CAMEO DEMO EX 30 Forgotten oldie – nice grey/white demo LEE TILLMAN – ALL THESE THINGS – MICHELLE EX 50 Rare issue, only ever seen white demos before JACKIE TRENT – YOU BABY – EMIDISC ACETATE EX 50 SOLD Original acetate from 1966, one sided, just has title and artist on the label and a date stamp 28 JAN 1966, nice little one off and 100% genuine THE VAN DYKES – SAVE MY LOVE FOR A RAINY DAY – MALA ISSUE M- 200 SOLD I think you’d go a long way to find a nicer copy than this one – beautiful issue copy. THE VOLCANOS – IT’S AGAINST THE LAWS OF LOVE – ARCTIC VG++ 45 SOLD Plays fine – this one is again a 100% 1960’s first press DANNY WHITE – CRACKED UP OVER YOU – DECCA DEMO EX 40 Some records are common as issues but never turn up on demo – this Danny White is a good example, see hundreds of issues but never see the pink demo. BABY WASHINGTON – THINK ABOUT THE GOOD TIMES – VEEP DEMO M- 25 Nice lesser known on good old vinyl BILLY WATKINS – THE ICE MAN – ERA DEMO EX- 50 Forgotten Wigan oldie, few marks, plays fine AND FINALLY, A STRANGE ONE TONY CLARKE – LANDSLIDE – CHESS EX ? I was going to list one of these today so I played it to see how it sounded and to my surprise it was in stereo. Now obviously I remember the UK reissue being in stereo but I don't ever remember hearing a US stereo copy, unless I just didn't pick up on it. So can anyone else check their copies and see if theirs is in stereo or if anyone has any info as why Chess would have issued a stereo 45 back then I'd be interested…and how rare is it? Ta.
