  1. It came out in France - was it a hit there? Where you there at the time working in the industry, seeing as you appear to know everything about the history of music, more than someone who's actually been working in the industry for God knows how many years and was literally able to get a yes or no answer to a question from Lieber & Stoller themselves? "Black artists who cut the often superior original versions of the records" ah so it's not always superior now, it's often superior. Like Georgie Fame and the Moody Blues, which brings us right back to where we started.
  2. I'm not arguing with that, I'm arguing with his selection of the Timebox record as a good example of this when the original wasn't even released in the Uk so could never have been a) a hit or stolen by those pesky white people
  3. Which is exactly what I said too. Besides that, the production team and songwriters behind most of Bunny Sigler's records were white guys, not hard workin kept down black guys.
  4. I don't know what the heck you're talking about, whats lolly gagging, is it a gay expression? I wouldn't know how to dance to reggae, I've never even been to a reggae do, but I was buying the music before I was buying soul and I like them both equally, I couldn't say one was superior to the other personally.
  5. "TIMEBOX'S version of 'Girl dont make me wait' which is simply a UK pop group and their producer trying to hit some cash off of the back of a great US Black record" I've never read so much sanctimonious twaddle in my entire life as the stuff that you come out with. Keep up the good work.
  6. the vocal is just as good as the instrumental, it's fantastic
  7. its not godz who wanted them mate, its vince who started the thread, hes gonna get u now ,this just gets better
  8. Sidra's Theme is truly fantastic - so is the vocal, I know you just said that Ken, I thought I;d say it too. What do you mean terra Shirma Strings, do you mean Milton Wright - The Gallop? Another terrific oldie. Both of these date back to the Cats and early Wigan days, though Milton Wright was played until 77 when it was released on Grapevine with the newly discovered vocal version.
  9. Pete S replied to a post in a topic in Look At Your Box
    I'd ask £20 I guess.
  10. Vince you need to go and have a lie down mate, he only said he'd take them if you didn't want them, knowing you had first refusal - he wasn't trying to steal them off you
  11. Thanks - I had no idea! Mines never dropped below 4.8 but I didn't know I got any discount!
  12. This has got to be one of the greatest threads of all time
  13. Debate about this on the ebay community board https://forums.ebay.co.uk/thread.jspa?threadID=1100256274&start=120
  14. Wasn't going to but you can have it if you want it, I only bought it cos I thought it looked great (and it's a classic)
  15. Spot on mate and it even has the same company sleeve, "distributed by Teal Record Co Ltd"
  16. Totally out of my comfort zone now, just found these in a pile of lp's, they are both 12" singles: anthony white - hey baby b/w carolyn crawford - just got to be more careful - philadelphia international. I would say this is fairly recent as it has a bar code on it so presumably worthless. james epps - high on the hill / be right there - hollywood bound 12" I know absolutely zilch about this - 80's?
  17. If it is though Sean, it should have a triangle centre shouldn't it?
  18. Dutch maybe? Greek?
  19. This is another bizarre statement, you're BLAMING a group and their producer for more or less stealing when the fact that there are 3 UK cover versions of this record would suggest that the songs publishers were trying their best to land it with any UK group and get it in the charts.
  20. Well it might have helped if they'd actually released the original in this country!
  21. Where can I get this from Davie? I hear it's the best thing since the acid jazz sounding version of Wigfield's "Saturday Night", monster floorfiller...
  22. No I'm not that arsed, but when someone posts up that they've heard a fantastic record, I don't expect it to be a version of Duffy's Mercy so I'm giving my opinion on it Steve. What's the point of having this f*cking forum if you can't give your opinion without someone making arsey comments all the time?
  23. I find it a bit sad that people are arguing the merits of two versions of a recent chart record. "Hey whats your favourite version of Mercy, the crap girl one or the even crapper indie one"
