  1. Wasn't Jesus born in one? Many a true word......
  2. I have only experienced a couple of these play off a laptop do's, and that was a few years ago. But the sound quality of both was excruciatingly bad. MP3 downloads might be OK to play at home or in the car, but put them through a big system and you soon discover their limitations. The other thing that I can't "get" about the young people coming into "the music" is why they feel the need to wear the uniform of baggy trousers and flared skirts?
  3. Should be strung up by the gonads, just shows how desperate people are to Dj.
  4. Just the one for today: This was on John Manships auction the other week. Think it went for £100.00. Unfortunately this copy is only VG condition, so £30 anyone? Little Beaver - I Feel My Love - Octavia VG Postage is £2.50p 1st class recorded in the UK. Payment by cheque, paypal gift or bank transfer. Little Beaver .mp3
  5. Trouble is Ian people change and some don't want to be "found" as I have discovered. I was interested in contacting John Bolland who was a friend of Franny's back in the day. He wasn't interested, but I bumped into him in Skipton with his wife and he was polite and friendly and we spoke of the old days for a few minutes. I invited him to call into my shop anytime for a brew and a chat, but he has never taken me up on the offer. Another lad that I was best friends with when we were kids also refused to get in touch when I discovered that I was working with his cousin many years later. Maybe it's just that nobody can stand me.
  6. Hello Ian, I have asked loads of people from the past if they knew his whereabouts, but he seems to have disappeared. I knew him from the time when he did the soul nights at Thornton Manor in the early seventies. I remember he drove a Morgan and had a trailer with the PA in. Great lad, both John Bolland and him were a bit older than me and my mates, so were our heroes and mentors. I will ask some of the people on Facebook from back in the day and let you know if I get any leads. Best regards, Phil.
  7. Who the **** are you to tell people how I feel. The nighters didn't fold. I ended them because two of the resident Dj's were no longer available. The reason that they are still going is testament to how desperate people were to keep it going, because it broke the mould. Like you rightly say everything has a shelf life, and Burnley had run it's course. I think it's a shame that it wasn't allowed to R.I.P. but thats all. I only come on here to add a bit of balance to all the back slapping that goes on.
  8. Pathetic, you have PM.
  9. Paul, you have obviously got a problem with me. That's fine, but don't come on a public forum trying to score points. If you have a problem, take it to PM's. You always said you just wanted to be the "warm up" DJ. But you kept bragging that you had some big ticket rarities hidden away, so when you asked for a prime spot, (which I gave you), I was expecting you to bring out the big guns and pack the dance floor. However, you just played the same set of records that you always did and killed the room. Then you threw a hissy fit and resigned, no reason given. So as far as I'm concerned you became a customer.
  10. Ask Kev Roberts mate, he's on here.
  11. I've always done the same. It's not only records either. Bloody Sky have ruined all the classic TV shows by showing them more or less on a loop. Nothing is sacred any more sadly.
  12. Sorry, I don't know your name, I just want to clear this up. I think you have misunderstood my original comment. I was really having a go at the incredible listing of the record, not the record itself. This was what caused me to comment: £5,000.00 Best 60s Northern Record EVER !!! b/w Deep Soul Sensation - Very Slight Storage Warp
  13. At last, the voice of reason.
  14. I thought the stupid statement was that Marilyn Barbarin was worth five grand? But I guess a record is worth what someone is willing to pay for it.
  15. Yeh, sorry I don't know what the **** happened there?
  16. au contraire, it's a public forum and I am entitled to my opinion. If you like the record then I'm very happy for you. But the fact remains that it is never worth five grand.
  17. I presume from that you own a copy. Terrible record to my ears, and not northern. The desperate need to find something new to play means that records like this that wouldn't have been looked at twice back in the day are now being raved about. You would have to pay me £5k to play it.
  18. Blimey! I think they are both fantastic.
  19. I wouldn't give £8 for it, not northern at all.
  20. I think the group soul collectors like this, probably other collectors as well. Seems to always attract huge interest even in rough condition.
  21. Come on Andy, I Dj'd for you a few years ago at Keele and never got paid. Not bothered at all, but just saying like.

  23. Could well be right there Chalky. But because of it's rarity I have never heard it out.
  24. Slightly off topic, but relevant I think. I have lost count of the people who Dj'd for me and were so excited and buzzing because the decks were set up properly with minimal weight on the tone arm, new styli fitted, and the system set up so that their records could be heard clearly throughout the room. When you have gone without the good things in life and spent so much time and money collecting records that move you so much. The last thing you want to do is play them on a system that just sounds like a boom box, or drop an old heavy stylus on your treasured styrene. The feeling you get from playing them on top quality gear to a crowd of like minded individuals, so that every word and fabulous note can be clearly heard is something special. There are many events where they have good equipment, but it isn't set up correctly. There are many with decks that I wouldn't play my records on for fear of damaging them. I know quite a few people who have got to a venue and just played cheap stuff and cuts of unissued stuff because either the decks look dodgy or every time someone comes up on stage the record jumps. And I don't blame them, but the crowd just think that he/she played a crap set Too many promoters who totally neglect this, or just haven't a clue how to set their gear up. Never mind paying Dj's, more important to show them some respect by giving them a fantastic experience, and respecting the fact they are playing super rare records for your guests.
