Hi Chalky, Heard a story at Middleton on Satuurday night. Didn't get there till late myself, but had it from a very reliable source. During Paul Sadot's spot, he had someone waving a piece of A4 paper at him, with the words "PLAY SOMETHING WE KNOW" written on it. We all know that Paul tries his utmost to find fresh tunes to play. And I for one know how much it costs in time, effort and money, to put a good spot together, and keep it fresh. No wonder so many get disalusioned and pack it in. This is the reason that I started my own night. I'm not a promoter, and I couldn't give a stuff about making money. But I love this music, and I am providing a haven for like minded soulies. Some people on here have taken offence at my discription of the music we play. But if they haven't been and experianced it, how can they make a judgement. And the most disheartening thing has been lack of support from people who say they want upfront and rare venues. At least if my efforts fail, I will have tried. Phil.

Hi Brian, I run Soul Salvation @ Burnley Cricket Club, and Paul and his friends came down very late one night, and got in with no bother. Very few locals have been down, all are welcome. Most of my regulars travel in order to hear the rare and quality music on offer. I'd love to see more locals, especially young un's. Paul's a very nice lad, we have spoken on this forum. Yep, I'd say you missed the point by a mile. Just using the Butch analogy as an example. Not to be taken literally. Quite a lot of c/up's played at my do that's all. Would you travel to a venue on the strength of a playlist? Or, on the other hand, would a playlist put you off attending a do? I have been put off by playlists myself. Better to just go and make your own mind up. I sometimes think that people are saying, oo look what I've got in my play box. Ego trip maybe? That's why I was asking for reasoned opinions. Phil.

I have been asked by a member of this fine forum [baz] and others in the past, if I would publish playlists from my Soul Salvation night. In my own humble opinion I think they are a bad thing. As I've never read one and thought, wow, I must go there. And at an upfront venue like mine, where there are so many little known tunes, and, wether you like em or not, cover up's played, I can't really see the point. Just imagine Butch's play list at Lifeline, c/up c/up c/up etc. And I've also found that most dj's can't be bothered to let you have a playlist after the event. For what ever reason, too drunk, high, can't remember. That's just my humble opinion, but I'd love to hear your views. Maybe you can change my mind. So good thing or not?

No mate, not on commission, but he has put some of my 45s on there for me. And I couldn't find my original post to reactivate it.

I maintain a box soley for dj'ing, but it's quallity over quantity for me now. And the box just get's smaller, as everything that I hear and must have, seems to be £1000 + I always did have expensive taste, so I have to sell, in order to buy. You can only play about 24 records in a spot. So I can't see the point of dragging 500 around with you. Besides, I like to keep changing em, keeps the spot fresh. Just bought an 80 box, but it only holds around 60. There was so much packing in the old box it looked silly when open. This will probably do me for my entire collection, unless I win the lottery, and can afford to actually keep some. I am going to be stuffed if there is a big drop in prices though.
