I used to pitch up and down when Dj'ing but never more than +/- 2, and purely for the dancers. If I am recording a track for home enjoyment, it will always be at 45 rpm exactly. My good friend Karl Heard was the master of the pitch control. He had no qualms about pitching some tunes up or down to the maximum. Like someone else commented earlier though, it was a shock when you heard them at the manufactured speed. But he could make a winner out of a duffer, a great Dj. Also, the people who have turntables with no pitch control, and who think they are purists. You better get your equipment checked regularly, because I have owned decks that have been miles off pitch when checked by an audio technician. One in particular I had for years, and all my recordings are ruined as the speed is too fast. You get used to your own turntable, so you don't notice any subtle changes. Some electrical components can deteriorate over the years, as can belts. I had to have some components renewed in my Sound Burger, and that had never been used. With a Technics 1200 or similar, you can see that the turntable is spinning at the true speed, with the strobe. Peace of mind.

  5. Yes, same thing. There's an awful lot around. I can recognise one easily, but have been sold them many times by "reputable dealers" I'm not sure how many people are activly involved in this practice, but one name keeps appearing every time this subject comes up. Buyer beware.
  6. Madness to pay that much for a record in this state. Having said that, it'll probably be "polished" to make it fit for Dj'ing, or sold on as mint. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/150801457971?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

  11. Always loved Fine x3........
  12. One that never features in these discussions, but in my opinion never ever turns up, is the Sonatas on Hot Line. The only copies that I have ever seen have come from collections and the copies were obtained in the 80's, and most have been hammered by their dj owners. Never seen a "fresh" copy from the States. Milton James is, as far as I am aware a 3 known copy record, still. The Contessa must be one of the rarest. I have only ever heard of the one copy.
  13. But true mate.
  14. Very astute, and very profound. I will always love the music, but there isn't enough "quality" new stuff, to keep me interested. And it's really easy to give up going out to soul events..............just go to a few without drinking alcohol, or taking any gear. Then you will realise how bad things are.

  19. He came from a small town called Zdunska Wola. My sister and her husband went over a few years ago to try and find any relatives that might still be around. They had some success, but were very limited by the language barrier. Because our mother was English, we never had to learn to speak Polish. Unlike some of my childhood friends that had both Polish parents, they were forced to attend classes and learn the language. I suppose they wanted to try and retain their heritage. Phil.
  20. I haven't got a clue Richard. The only thing I know about Poland is my dad was from there. I also heard some of our Asian cousins complaining "them bloody poles coming over here, stealing our jobs, working all the hours God sends for less than minimum wages, and dozens of them living in a flat. They should send them back where they came from." Oh the irony.
  21. I know John, I was taking poetic licence with the film script......
  22. Strange though how so many of us who were born over here, post war to a Polish parent/s, fell in love with northern soul. Must be something in the genes? Or are the Polish people the "blacks" of Europe? Say it loud, I'm Polish and I'm proud.
  23. Better empty halls with a few true music fans in, than packed halls of people who are only there because their mates are, and they might get a spot next month. Thought you were one of the few Len?
  24. Hear, hear.............I hate a mish mash of music.........but we are all different and it's impossible to please everyone. So don't try and please everyone, just go for the people who have the same mind set as you.......that's what I did.
  25. Very rare record I reckon, very rarely turns up.
