  1. Just because it's rare doesn't make it good............if it wasn't for the second high bidder, it would have sold for $3,522.00. It's what's in the groove that counts.
  2. What gets me is, the side you bought it for sounds as though the producer was frying bacon and sausages in the studio, next to the mic, yet the flip side [which is inevitably crap] plays mint.
  3. My God, they were Walter & The Admerations...........
  4. I've always thought that "Happy" on Soozi was a fantastic record. Was this their first recording by any chance?
  5. that made me laugh.................
  6. That was my point, JM's records are for sale, for profit.
  7. I was questioning the fact that JM's records are for sale, which is surely advertising?
  8. The idea has always been that you have to get off your arse and go and hear the records at an all nighter. That's why it's called the rare soul scene. That's the reason nobody goes out anymore, why bother when you can sit at a pc and listen to almost anything.
  9. MMMMMM, think I might try it myself then.
  10. Amazing coincidence this thread, we were just discussing the legalities of John Manship posting up his auction records on You Tube. These records are for sale, so how can that be legal? Think we could all post our sales up on there if that is the case.
  11. I know mate, it was my pathetic attempt at humour I'm afraid.
  12. That is deffo Guy Djing. I traced this copy, but the owner won't part with it.
  13. Not anymore Steve lad...............
  14. Yes, I could tell it was the same artist John. Have you ever seen a copy of "Need Your Love"?
  15. No, I've had both releases and they have all played perfectly. Try playing the other side, if that plays perfect then someone has played the "Funky" side with a bad stylus, or it's been hammered.
  16. Nearly had a connery when I read the title...........thought you were selling this John - The Contessa - I need you baby.mp3 Been searching for that for years.
  17. You only have to play a styrene record once with a knackered stylus and too much weight on the tone arm, and it's permanently damaged. I have had many that looked minty but when played hissed all the way through, or more interestingly part way through. My personal theory on this is.......when these records were first produced, the majority of turntables were very crude indeed. I remember my sister having Dansettes which had very heavy tone arms, and cartridges that had two styli that could be selected by twisting a small plastic tab on the end of the tone arm. One of these needles was a huge thing that was for playing 78's and 16's. I reckon these old machines are responsible for a lot of the styrene damage on these old 45's. Another good indicator for this is if you play the flip side of a hissing 45, it usually plays perfectly. I actually like styrene records, well from a audiophile point of view. If you get a mint styrene 45, the sound quality is far cleaner and superior to vinyl.

  19. It's a fookin forum, that's what it's for. If you aren't interested, bugger off and leave us to it. You are without doubt the biggest know it all smart arse I have ever had the misfortune to encounter.
  20. At the risk of being lynched...........the C.O.D's is a very poor record. If it was a tenner I wouldn't dream of buying it. I don't think it will make anywhere near as much as the Combinations. Just my humble opinion.
  21. Phil I thought a man in your line of work would have embraced technology. Get yourself a sniper, you can try it free of charge. You will never go back to early bidding again.
  22. Must agree with this statement. The super rare 45's that have been through ebay in the last 2 years.....I never thought to see Mr. Lucky and Esther Grant to name just two. Mr Lucky was dirt cheap, I nearly bought it just to sell on.
  23. Trouble is Nev, the serious bidders don't bid records up like the people who have already been at it. These are the people that piss me off. They just do it so they can say they were winning it at one time. Anyone with a brain cell will employ a sniper.
  24. I think that will be heading to New York.
  25. Nothing lasts forever Tony, everything has a shelf life. [i wish a few more promoters would realise that] Good luck with everything you do in the future. Best regards, Phil.
