  1. Sorry Boba - I thought they were a subsiduary - However Im sure Ive seen a Penny label saying distributed by Chess .
  2. Thats a proper one Paul- Loved this at the mecca & Wigan but as said before sounds a bit tinny at home but bloody wonderful on abig system Thik its a £50 record at the moment!
  3. Yes thats my understanding but Penny was a subsiduary of Chess - Was also rumoured that it was the Chessmen but never seen any confirmation of that either.
  4. Cheers- Now thats amazing Barrie waddington had one on his latest list (Albeit water damage label) for £20 where as dave has it for £80 big difference in price. But thanks for the link
  5. Either no one has for sale or no-one knows it! Any ideas where I can get one would be appreciated
  6. Andy - Im sure Richie was selling a copy of this a couple of months back(Yes he was in august -White demo - EX £70)- do a search on here to confirm. Regards Steve P.S You never did your playlist
  7. Bill Caffie - Girl from bowling green - Cin Town records VG+ or above
  8. Romeo & Juliet - Pye - mint minus looking for a copy of Lorraine chandler - I cant hold on
  9. Ive got it - The venue is - The scottish parliament - However the burger van there is Sh*TE
  10. I sold Luther Ingram on her a couple of weeks ago for £10 and thought that was a bargain for a brilliant crossover tune Its only a fiver here - Thats unbelievable Phenomenal record that should be £50 at least!
  11. Thyankyou - Yes I can understand that- I was trying to listen to both and see any comparisons. I think The Venicia Wilsons are better mixed then- Their are some volume issues then on the Peter Lamarr and it sounds as though some strands are missing and that makes the depth sound a bit Tinney whereas the Venicia Wilson's dont sound that way but sound very full if you get my drift. Could be just the way I hear it after all and ones hearing does get worse with age thats why we probably analyse the music more to make sure we dont miss anything! Anyhow looking forward to seeing you in London at the Crossfire- I dont usuallly go to Oldies doos but because your spinning I definately will be there.Im gonna close my eyes when your on Ian & think Im back in the Highland room -I do hope you will play some classic late Mecca stuff including Rimshots etc Regards Steve

I didnt even know where Dundee was in those days Being the Guff that I am Great record though - Got a nice White demo of it
  13. Tell me where you could get for a fiver recently? Ihave this on wants mode and none come in apart from 1 at £35 I sold one 4 years ago for £50. The twelve inch Promo only has 3 tracks as opposed to the issue which has 4
  14. Ok when it happens shall we have a sweep stake for exact amount- Ill put up The prize (Nice expensive bottle of Wine) and entries to be £1 and it all goes to the winners chosen charity!
  15. No Ian I dont like the uptempo PL one because technically I dont think it is right as I highlighted in my previous posts. But I love some of the uptempo ones you have done from the recent past Venicia Wilson, Four vandals etc because I thought musically it had all the ingredients and didnt sound layered etc (As Pete puts it) If you have listened to Todd Rundgren you would definatley understand what I mean-Its probably a personal thing on my part about intensely listening to the different channels and the instrumentation . Regards Steve
  16. Well Having listened to those tracks- This is why you have such a varied talent These are excellent - they are well balanced -Not over the top and pretty lovely- definately for my buying list and I would have them on in the background to one of my dinner parties that I have had in the past- Excellent Ian Marks out of ten - 9.5
  17. Well Pete as usual your wisdom is invaluable - You hit the nail right on the head and you also understand my point about Todd Rundgren Having listened to his genius over the years and himself being a majestic producer of many hits I was trying to understand Ians Thoughts on how the instrumentation was the criteria for his view of "The best thing I have ever produced." When I listen to a record I often listen to many aspects of it and gauge its development by understanding all the instruments used as well as all the vocals - How they were tracked (Multi-layered etc) Ian asked for opinions (or should I say he made a statement) and if he wants opinions based on musical technical knowledge he must provide the information for people to make a better valued judgement of the record. However he seems not to want to which is sad. I disagree with his comment that no-one went into depth over Reaching for the best or Running in another direction. Well when we get older and wiser with a bit more knowledge we actually do start to ask those questions. I had friends over last week listening to 2 particular groups and asked their opinion on the 2 albums played to them I played them then asked which one they like and why? They said they preferred the raw aspect of the Pink Fairies album as opposed to the polished Pretty things. Both albums were released 1971/72 - Then I explained the numbers in the band and what they played and they took a different view based on the knowledge given. They still liked the Pink Fairies best and even said they were suprised about the production given their was only 3 in the Band. I hope this explains what I was looking for so I could make a better informed judgement based on techinical knowledge rather than whether It was just a nice record. Regards Steve
  18. Ian - Im sorry you feel it is Anorak rubbish! I have listend to the tracks and obviously made amistake about the synthetic aspect but I am genuinely interetsed in who played on this and what they played. Unfortunately one might say having been a Todd Rundgren fan for 40 years I do try to listen to all aspects of a record and make a valued judgement about it either using simple method of "I dont like it" or I listen intensley to the instrumentation and vocals and try to work out the good & not so good points from a technical musical position - I am not saying I am the Music police but this is just the way I analyse a record just as a food critic analyses food. I am interested to know all the istruments being used and who is playing them and also about the Vocals - How many backing etc? Ian you said that this was the best thing you ever produced well I would suggest you used some technical know how to come to that conclusion therefore I have a valid point that needs exploring. I am genuinely interested in it and not doing this just to score points as you will see from all my other posts regarding you I have been very supportive. So Please answer the questions I have to enable me to listen more closely to the tracks- It might help chnage my judgement on it and also give some constructive feedback. Regards Steve
  19. Ian - If I am wrong I humbly apologise re the synthetic instruments and yes I need to catch up on my sleep. On that basis could you please tell us who was playing what on the track & how many backing vocalists were used and who they were. As another post said the backing vocals seem to have been mixed at a higher sound level than the lead vocalist- were the natural speeds used or have they been adjusted - It could just be my ageing ears! as for the other side I stand by my view that this sounds like a poorly made Angel track. Many thanks Steve
  20. Yes I wanted to download it but didnt know how to - I was about to bid 450 on it when it shot to 500 -ouch!
  21. The Northern side sounds just like another 4 vandals record with a different lead vocalist. Its not balanced very well and its your opinion Ian but If you think that its the best youve produced then you are deluding yourself. I dont like comparing records but this is not in the same league as the Exciters/ James Wells and LJ Johnson. I am not saying this for nostalgia reasons but on techinical grounds. The other side is pretty poor and sounds like its been copied from an Angel studio cut - Sounded abit like - Soothe you - in terms of beat but again the synthetic instruments let it down. Ill probably buy it and as you say in a few years it might get the plays but it doesnt hit you like Kings go forth and therefore I am willing to bet you a nice bottle of wine that it doesnt get the DJ attention you are hoping for. Sorry if this sounds negative but Its my true view on this preview heard.
  22. The roulette one is not a reissue as its a different take altogether. I meant these so called djs buying Jo Jama boots as apposed to buying Tyrone davis original whether on DAKAR / ATlantic/Roulette and playing that out. No Can of worms - Just a valid opinion as I see it
  23. On apositive note did anyone listen to that unknown acetate that went for over 500 quid from a guy in France- Was awesome- apparrantly only 2 copies and he sold one to a dj some 4 years ago. Great record - Soulbrew (Ebay id) bought it. What do people think if you listened to it
  24. Never heard the Alton Ellis can you put up on refosoul Tony? Cheers Just another thing- Doesnt it make you mad when people(So called Djs) play Bootlegs & reissues of big tunes when they could buy an original of this fantastic record for 10 squid and be brave enough to play it out !
  25. I love the original on Dakar/Atlantic but the roulette version is the bees knees. However the best version for me is not by Tyrone davis but by Joe Johnson on Syla rtecords- Its so laid back and sublime.
