Possibly my favourite record of the year & if we all lived by the OVO ethos we would never get to hear such gems as this - which would be just plain wrong !! BTW Ian - when did you get your download of this? If I got mine before you is my download more original? & I can produce documentary evidence if necessary .

"Love You Baby" - Eddie Parker on Ashford is acceptable. "Love You Baby" - Eddie Parker on Googa Mooga - acceptable or not ?

"The Hokey Cokey", "Auld Lang Syne" & not forgetting "Dancing Queen" by Abba are tunes that fill dancefloors worldwide !!!

Think Frank Wilson has seen more "Spencer's Action" than any other tune ever played - even gets played at Student Gigs - my son told me !!!

In the not so distant future a certain record by Frank Wilson may be leaving these shores - but it will not be the last time people dance to this tune at a venue near you - a copy/bootleg/re-issue/cassette/ DAT/Laptop/Minidisc/Memory Stick/Acetate or even an 8 track of "Do I Love You" will fill dance floors many more times than any "quality original £10 cheapie - that should be played "ever will. - FACT !!

It's actually how many are in the venue - how many people there are on the dancefloor & how many people are enjoying themselves - that's what counts - because that is what realistically keeps the scene going. Matrix numbers & runout grooves never got people on a dancefloor - think you will find the sound coming out of the speakers ultimately does that.

Money wise not really worth a great deal - £10 to £15 I should think. However it is generally regarded as Stevie's best work & certainly amongst Motowns best ever albums.

As opposed to the "sophisticated" look of 40 inch bags - badges & beer towels .

The Northern fans would only get two blows in, then they would argue about who threw the first punch - or was it a kick - if it was a kick what sort of shoes were they wearing - were they original brogues or was it a loafer - if it was a loafer were they red or black & what length were the tassles. In the meantime the modern fans would have buggered off to the gig & just set about enjoying themselves on the dancefloor.

The odd thing crosses over now & again - Joi Cardwell - Angie Stone - Mario Biondi etc. Strangely enough there was probably more "modern" tunes played in the mid to late seventies on the Northern scene than any other time - ie Gentlemen & Their Lady - Brainstorm - Eddie Holman - Gil Scott Heron - Norma Jenkins - Millie Jackson - Tavares - Moments - Larry Saunders etc were all reasonably popular as new releases on both scenes. You also have to bear in mind that certain factions of the Northern scene decided that early R&B records from the late 50s & early 60s was the way to go.

Think people are just now listing tunes that have the same backing track & not similar sounding as per the original post. Sorry to be a killjoy.

Have mentioned it before but Al DeLory - "Right On" & Bobby Sheen - "Dr Love" have a similar feel. The Nurons - "All My Life" sounds like a vocal version of Don Renaldo - "Fiddlin' Around"

Mr Soussan did the same with "Stronger Than Her Love" - The Flirtations & turned it into "Love & Desire - Arpeggio - which came out on Polydor.

"Can't Satisfy" - The Impressions & This Old Heart Of Mine" - The Isleys are very similar. Curtis Mayfield wrote a song called "Can't Satisfy" that was a top-20 r&b hit for the Impressions in 1966. Motown sued because the melody was very similar to this song. Mayfield ended up sharing songwriting credit for this song with Holland/Dozier/Holland/Moy.

Love - Doni Burdick, G.Davis & R Tyler, Frank Foster & lots more. Hate (with a passion) - Travis Wammack, Smokey & The Fabulous Blades - not just bad instrumentals - awful pieces of music full stop !!

Heard in the seventies that the guitar player on Joe Hicks "Don't It Make You Feel Funky" was Bobby Womack. Also I was told Bill Bush - "I'm Waiting" is a soul record.
