  1. Adey then put all those brilliant tracks on 2 blinding CDs - The Sharon Scott tracks are absolutely brilliant & I would not have a problem with any DJ playing these tracks off a CD at a venue. In fact I think it is a crying shame that the said tracks are overlooked because the CD is, in some quarters, regarded as "the devils work" & should be avoided at all costs. I understand that a lot of gigs do not have CD decks but let's be honest they are not exactly the most expensive pieces of equipment are they ?
  2. One thing to consider - if the tune is going to leave theses shores - where does that leave the Frank Wilson OVO fans?
  3. Surely those two words kind of defeat any argument you may have - OVO is what it is - ORIGINAL VINYL ONLY !!
  4. First off, at no point in my postings have I said it can't be played out. I really don't want to sound like a radical but let me make a completely off the wall suggestion ........................... play the CD!!!! That way it DOES get played out & to make things even better you can play it in it's only official, legal release format. - Motown see the popularity of these CDs thus releasing more previously unissued gems for us all to enjoy You don't have to buy a carver or play a boot - everybody's happy!!!
  5. I didn't make the rules about OVO - other people do that. To help me understand (& so as not to talk some utter bollocks) please explain to me why it is acceptable to play a carver (bootleg) & not okay to play a legally released CD track. If anybody can give me a definitive answer to this question I will graciously concede to their better knowledge.
  6. To me OVO should mean just that.................. not OVO but I can play the odd carver or two. Once people take the high moral ground about original vinyl that is where they must then stay. Anybody IMHO who pays to have a piece of music copied onto an acetate or carver has broken their own code of conduct & is not in any position to criticise anybody else who doesn't happen to play OVO.
  7. When versions like the Tammi Terrell one only get released on CD it tends to dent the OVO argument IMHO. It's a real shame that because of the "rules" tunes like this will never get the audience & acclaim they deserve.

I am now entering "Barry's World" - I have this vision of Kenneth More djing in an old dis-used aircraft hangar - he drops "The Aeroplane Song" onto the floor comes Douglas Bader - when the tune hits the break Bader attempts an ill advised back drop (just to show he can) of couse he is now flat on his back & cannot get up. Nobody bothers to help him until a kindly seventies childrens TV presenter - we shall call him Derek, with the help of two cuddly toys, walks over & helps him to his feet. "There, there all over now Douglas - let's go home through the arched window & we'll listen to some "Soulful Playhouse" tunes on the way there"

Not forgetting of course the torque settings for the needle weight on their prized 45s - is it in inch pounds or newton metres ? or is it just bollox to that if it jumps just blu-tack a 2p coin to the pick up arm.

Going out to have fun? Is that allowed? Do the "Soul Police" know that people like you exist ? Think you may have got away with it just this once - I believe the Vinyl Constabulary are all attending a seminar this weekend discussing whether the measuring of run-out grooves should be metric or imperial !!

Last year in Blackpool there was an event called "Blackpool Mecca Revival Reunion" - how does that sit within your formula for the promotion of events?

In 1975 for example records were played as new releases - I would call it modern then - but oldies now.

Think one or two of the attendees would possibly disagree with that statement.

These days on the more modern side of things tunes are sometimes only ever available as a download & never make it commercially on to cd or vinyl.

Barry The vinyl versus CD - MP3 - Memory Stick - Download - Laptop - Wax Cylinder has been done to death on Soul Surce & here are the conclusions - there are two answers :- 1) OVO Only. 2) Don't care what it is played on. Here endeth the debate.

Re-union says to me that people who actually went to The Torch in circa 1972 will be attending. Fair play to Malcolm his ticket sales have gone well - realistically you are giving the people what they want - another "oldies" night. If he had promoted a rare, underplayed, crossover, modern soul night I think the tickets might not have sold so well. The scene basically lives & breathes "oldies" because that is its life blood - it is no surprise really that promoters wanting to do something "different" fail because people only want to attend venues where the tried & trusted tunes are played. Doesn't matter whether you use the words revival, re-union, oldies, night etc. an old record still sounds the same. Barry - if you play The Fuller Brothers at a "re-union" does it sound any different than if you play it at a "revival" 'cos I don't really understand your point.

Barry Thanks for the "Gettysburg Address" but I feel at times mate you don't half complicate things. Kenny Bobien has a new tune out - I posted it up for people to be aware of it - they either like it or they don't - it really is as simple as that Take it by your negative sounding post that you are not a fan of it. Like you I have many Kenny Bobien tunes - 90% of which I would not recommend on here because of their mainly out & out house/gospel content. I feel this tune has a sort of retro feel that may appeal to certain people on here. If more people become aware of, like & buy music by Kenny Bobien then that is all good isn't it ?

Brand new - might appeal to some people on here - give it a listen - very Curtis Mayfield to my ears. https://www.traxsource.com/index.php...titles&cv=31144
