  1. Colin "pretending" to be a DJ - now that IS one of the funniest things I have ever read here Steve.
  2. Ok understand what you are saying Roburt, but you are being too judgmental there are some fantastic rare as hens teeth 60s records, slo don't deny yourself the experience in the name of Otis Redding et al man. `
  3. Now then Russ you know that isn't true of me. If i think it's wrong `i'll say so. The scene you shout for is gone mate. It's all weekender anthems and Tobi Legend memories. Anything else is now a minority sport. ATB Steve
  4. Roburt why would that be? Do you not like rare / northern soul?
  5. The difference is Colin is not making a comeback on the northern / rare scene. He just does an odd revival gig, very different IMHO. He's not out to prove anything, he's a modern soul DJ. Vincent's had more comabacks than a boomerang
  6. Yup but much of it ain't even on CD Pete. "Turntable terrorists" suits me
  7. The whole debate is mindnumbingly boring...... Colin isn't on the rare soul scene, nor is he on the northern scene. He is a modern soul DJ where, dear friends, it doesn't matter whether you play a tune off of vinyl, CD, i-phone or memory stick. He was on the northern scene over 35 years ago now. What is he supposed to have done? Kept all his old records in a cupboard specially for the odd occasion like this? zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Move along there is nothing to see here.
  8. Crikey! Interesting. Let's hope it's not going to be all 'anthems', and there is space for some interesting stuff to be played as well.....
  9. Great stuff. Lots of people missed Prestatyn. Good to see they've gone with John as well rather than trying to do it themselves.
  10. From the days of Snoopy Dean et al Modern records were always played at Wigan and later Stafford with Richard, Dave and Robin. At Wigan things like Lovelites, Flaming Emeralds, Silvetti, Eddie Holman (76,77) etc. and later the 79 invasion of things like Bobby Thurston, Roy Dawson etc. so don't think it's something that you can put into tight compartments.
  11. Interesting I never knew he was singing "I wrote my baby Special D." always thought it was "Specially"
  12. Sorry to hear he died last night. A great guy, I was very lucky to interview him in 2001 before he came over to the UK.
  13. I reckon Steve Coogan should act his "Paul Carf" role. He can wander into the Nighter f*ing and blinding, lager can in hand, start falling over, and turn it into back-flips and spin out.....
  14. A really interesting article. Never been anywhere in the NE soul wise, but thanks for posting this.....
  15. So true Len. And....some of these pre-production "critics" don't seem to realise how broad the scene was in the mid 70s. "Won't be done correctly" tosh and all that. The people making it were actually around at the time......and the scene was much more than just Wigan on a Sat night, although that was of course important. NS was going on all over the place at it's height, lots of oddballs, hangers on, footsie fly-by-nights in every town, fights etc. People forget soulies weren't just atacked on their way to the Casino - anyone else get roughed up by 'hairies' on their way to 'The Fleet' for example?. The way some people talk you would think there were only 2,000 perfectly formed "rare soul" youths that congregated in Wigan every Saturday night and conformed to a single fixed way of life. This film has all the right credentials, the right people working on it to make it authentic, and I do not think for one minute anyone other than a complete mug will see a film like this purely as "a documentary". So stay optimistic.
  16. Carms, Production is set to begin in early June in Bury, Bolton and Blackburn. Steve
  17. The trouble with that Steve is the logistics of getting a limited run distributed to the shops and suppliers where it is wanted. Example is Charles Bradley which I mentioned the other day on another thread, none came into Crazy Beat, but HMV have so many they were selling them on line......a bit of a bollox really!
  18. Yes and if this carries on, how long before a dealer who gets stock holds them back, rather doing what the Honest Johns on here have done and make them available day one?
  19. Yes agreed. The idea of shops not knowing if they'll get a copy of something or not is ridiculous. We don't have a local record shop anyway.
  20. Sorry but I'd rather hear from Elaine on the status in due course, rather than your guesswork and supposition about the film Mr. Tomangoes.
  21. Here is the Metro write up. One for Regional's files..... Regional review.pdf
  22. What? Sensible journalism in the Metro? Hold your horses, I'm off to get a copy.....(both the Comp and todays Metro)!
  23. Russ a quick and regular trawl of Fish's site will give you much of what you need to know. SOundclips too.
