  1. Sorry Martyn, and at the risk of sounding like Tim B.in one of his articles If you look at a map you will see that the village that Sam lives in IS in ENGLAND, not Wales. Steve
  2. And why would he speak Welsh when he lives in England?
  3. Yeah you are right Martyn, Sam doesn't particularly like the 'digs' and point scoring. I mean they are not having fundamental arguments about the future direction of the scene, more like minor discrepancies. I understand the need for accuracy, and I would support that all the way, but all I see are comments like "this was first played in August 1973 not September 1973 as said by Sam last issue, and Sam would do well to remember that such and such was played at 8.15 p.m at the Mecca one week in 1975, so has been known about for 35 years". Do wish Tim would stop writing to us as if he is lecturing us from "on high", he doesn't know it all, and he certainly, like the rest of us, doesn't have all the records. A bit more humility wouldn't go amiss now and again. Otherwise I enjoy his musings.
  4. Of course they did, probably pressed at least 20,000, but they probably didn't get much past the distributors and most copies probably got trashed / recycled.
  5. It shouldn't be too expensive as quite a few copies sold in the UK as a new release around 1980/1. Both sides pretty cool, so good luck.

The Tchula release has a really nice vibe to it......have always liked it ever since first buying it in 82. Miles better than the earlier versions for my money....Steve
  7. I am with Bully on this "Satisfactorise your mind" every time......
  8. Thanks for the confirmation - damn there goes my Ebay inheritance
  9. Excellent stuff........
  10. Oh really? I read on another site it was £4,000 and no doubt next month somewhere else it will be £12,000 Steve
  11. Yes things change Brett - Sam has been playing it and now people want it for their hot boxes
  12. Sam was trying to sell his at Cleethorpes/ would have thought £300 a while back, but these things have a habit of going up in price wildly once the bespectacled Barnfather has started tipping them......
  13. The latter I'd say. Gambo would be well aware of the stories of Joe Jackson bullying.
  14. Interesting, I did once read that Michael was the vocalist presumably from the same source.
  15. Who are they then? No mentions yet for "You don't have to be over 21"? Another goodie.
  16. Maybe time for me to sell my copy of Ripple & Waves.....and the other pre Motown Jackson 45s.....Steve

Well I wouldn't really class them as Northern soul, but tunes like "Dangling on a string", "Everything's Tuesday", and "Give me just a little more time" would certainly be classed as classics that helped get a generation of kids into soul music. That type of sound was steeped in mystique and I am sure influenced many of our musical tastes.
  18. More to the point Simon, are you on the bill at Sleaford in September? Here's another one Little Anthony & The Imperials "Gona fix you good" and "Better use your head" - they're fast, but the vocals sound awful - never could get to grips with them.....give me a "Seven day foollover" anyday.
  19. Good to see Barbnara McNair being suggested for the dirge that it really is.......never quite got the lyrics either An over-rated piece of Tamla Toytown if ever there was! Love Stormy Weather? Well Mr Hampsey wash your mouth out Sir. Thought this would have been right 'up yer street' especially as it was broken by a young Sir Rodney of Dearglove as I recall. Party Time Man - awful awful awful. Get it off - "Hang the DJ" etc. Judy Street "What" - I know it's pop, but never got why it was so popular - the biggest seller on Grapevine etc. "Band of Gold" Freda Payne - crushingly tiresome - quite happy never to hear this record ever again.
  20. The UK instrumental version of Billy Harner "What about the music". 67 seconds I think. But I have a James Brown promo announcement on a Smash label single 7 seconds
  21. Etta James "Seven day snore bore" Billy Woods - a "B side piece of nonesense" filler if ever there was one - loads of "la la da da' s" just to fill up the song. 4 Tracks - "Like my love for you" classic northern for some, but just awfully dull.

  23. Yes local release, exactly the same only it's styrene
  24. Sorry I know the record, and have had it for yonks but would never ever have put Ghetto Kitty down as being The Toys. Never. Fascinating.
  25. Didn't know that....
