sounds like a bargain at that price Nick
  2. You think? It's up to the DJs to be imaginative, keep the crowd happy and keep the principles of the northern scene. If 90% of punters don't care whether it's OV or boots as you and others say, why would a DJ want to play any boots? It has to be laziness or lack of imagination on the DJs part. Maybe we should be listing DJs rather than venues then As for "the people want Wigan classics" excuse - most of them Wigan classics ain't that rare or expensive either (no list of exceptions please I know there are some) so I don't see that as an excuse either.
  3. Yep they're keeping a low profile.....but at least we have a list of OV venues now, which we will add to.
  4. Think it will need to go back underground, but not sure it's going to happen. Agree it's deep rooted John.
  5. 70s soul tends to not fetch the same price as 60s at the rare end.
  6. But the 3Gs isn't a northern venue is it? We're talking NORTHERN here Sean -
  7. Yeah and I know who the worst offender is on that one......No names though - but an anogram might be slamsou
  8. Oh don't be daft Simon, and change the record while you're about it.
  9. Agree 100%
  10. In fairness Roger the modern scene has never been based on playing music in any one format has it. I mean I remember seeing Mike Ward with his two CDR hour long set back over 10 years ago. Northern has always been based on playing OV.
  11. Update - I know a few of the clubs did but wanted the promotors to post up, rather than presume anything. So so far we have declared OVO venues: South East Letchworth Irish centre Soul@Hitchinfc - Hitchin South Essex Soul Club - Capones West Mids DOuble Deckers Good times Mids / East Anglia Attic Club Bentinck Back Room Select Soul Burton Willington Creative Soul @ Silks Wellingborough North / North West the Junction Middleton jn Bradford morley carr wmc York Soul Club Scotland Basics Edinburgh Spiders Web Edinburgh Soul in the City Dundee Real Deal Aberdeen Black Trackin' Glasgow South West Soul Nights at Bridgwater Somerset The SOul Side @ The Loft Bar, Bournemouth Uni Go Go Children Bristol And allnighters I can pretty certainly say based on the DJ line up Lifeline 100 Club Burnley Hitsville events .....
  12. I don't really look like that Mark. Will post my train avatar back up.
  13. We're talking northern venues Derek. Modern CD's should be compulsory fare.

Evison played it at Wigan quite a few times. I remember it and thinking "Cor that's cool a chart record at Wigan" It was in his "Lightening strikes" period.
  15. God is anyone still playing Billy Woods? Surely hammered to death at this point, and should be left alone for a few years. You know the bigger problem is the amount of DJs I see still back-cueing their records. I am always bolocking people for it.
  16. Not at all - think most people agree there are too many venues and too many DJs. Perhaps a cull of the bootleg players will bring a degree of stability?
  17. Hello Roger, nice to hear from you
  18. Is that one you are going to share? she's always sounded more POP than SOUL to me. Can't stand her voice, really.
  19. So so far we have declared OVO venues: Letchworth Irish centre Bradford morley carr wmc Good times west mids Attic Club go Go Children Bristol the Junction Middleton jn Basics Dundee And allnighters I can pretty certainly say based on the DJ line up Lifeline 100 Club Burnley .....
  20. Oh stop over dramatising Ian. Daniel in the Lion's den? Pleeeez. Hardly anyone has commented on your productions for weeks now, preferring instead to allow the thread to take it's course Anyway you should know that anything costing more than a tenner that Sam wants now will involve a part cash part trades deal - his pension doesn't allow him to spend 9k on a record. Whatever his views of your CD are, at 66 he has more energy and enthusiasm for Djing and new sounds than many far younger, and that should be recognised. Steve
  21. Arrrrrrrrrrgggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There you go again - BINGO - another little dig at Soul Sam. Why bring Sam into it when we are discussing MY opinion of Diana Ross?
  22. and i am not saying you have to. Your DJs should be clear on what they play, and if they don't have the original they should have the imagination to play something else instead. there are plenty of DJs out there who have good records that the punters like on OV - nobody needs to book the boot players - it's laziness. Steve
