Nice from what I can hear, though I have the vol right down as I don't want to disturb my work colleagues too much. Cheers

Ultra Rare Modern
Nowhere near the beginnings of a list my friend.....or are we just limiting it to "Trophy records" ....What about the Chi Heat stuff - 3 records all pretty rare.

Black Rock Educators on Cohen? Can never make up my mind about this record as to whether I like it or not. Also got a killer deep B side just like King Moses.

Jakki on Stang is v rare - bit slow for some of the funky boys though.- Ultra Rare Modern
The last record ever released on Laurie is rare. Can't remember what it's called right now -- Ultra Rare Modern
There's a couple we've got covered up which we know won't turn up - don't ask us why they're covered then! Also got a box rammed with unknowns that haven't turned up. Will probably be playing a few of them at the Bass Museum. Natural Impulse £30 When was that early 90s? Thought it went for silly money now? I find Ice very monotonous - maybe I wasn't in the mood for it at the time.- Ultra Rare Modern
Ice not that rare. Think Mike Ward had 8 of the Morris's in 82 since then only a couple more have turned up. Natural Impulse? Several of the current cover ups that some of us have also qualify- Halo - Marshall Or Dyco?
There were a couple of Marshall copies around a couple of years ago. Think JM auctioned a Dyco last year. Dyco I think is harder, but hey they're both 'ard in reality.- Houston Outlaws
Interesting - that maybe where the Archie Bell connection came from. A lot of these singers were drafted in and out of groups at the drop of a hat to fill in for missing singers, people sent off to war etc.- Houston Outlaws
Just noticed it says as much on the record. D'Oh!- Houston Outlaws
OK I understand John. Didn't know it was actually recorded in Canada. Steve- British
Yeah but it's crap. Only about 57 seconds long?- Houston Outlaws
Westbound did put out a variety of acts mostly from Detroit, but also Chicago (Denise LaSalle), Ohio (Players) and in it's latter days LA etc, so Texas isn't too much of a stretch. Still not convinced its Archie Bell though.- Houston Outlaws
You need them BOTH, one to look out for then. Cheers Steve- Houston Outlaws
They were rumoured to be Archie Bell & Drells moonlighting while in Detroit. Though I remain to be convinced on that score. Cheers Steve- Houston Outlaws
Don't think there's anything wrong with that m8. You also need their two sweet soul records on Westbound - top slowies. Sherry Missmas! Steve- WILLIE HUTCH "Sunshine Lady" (1973)
--> QUOTE(C.B @ Dec 14 2006, 08:24 AM) link Wow! Love this song! Thanks for the link CB ...and the dancing - basically a two step record, and some of those dudes are larging it up big time on the floor. Are SOul Train DVD's available anywhere?- vat on ebay purchase
I blame Brown for most of the ills of this country, but this time I am afraid he is relatively innocent. It used to be bad back in the mid 80's with posties knocking you up at 7 am to collect £1.06 in customs duty etc. In the post 9/11 world the customs bods have all been fixated with terrorism and drugs so for several years it was pretty quiet, and records generally sailed through unless Oliver Normal was on duty and spotted your records. In recent times customs have "staffed up", and reverted to their old ways - the main difference is the records are much more expensive, and therefore the duty is much higher.- vat on ebay purchase
You should know that mixing it with customs officers - there's only ever going to be one winner! Great story though. Reminds me of the one time we turned up in Baltimore on a direct flight from the UK in the good old days of TWA and the customs donuts were not ready for us so all the passengers were held in some bland "holding area" and just kept in this room until the customs officers had finished their lunch of worm sandwiches and fizzy pop. Anyway after a while some hooray starts kicking off about being late for a meeting, the US is a disgrace etc. - basically I don't know if it was claustrophobia or what but he completely flipped. And we just knew what was going to happen next...and it did. Enter security, exit hooray, never to be seen again. He's probably still in Guantanamo - Ultra Rare Modern
