  1. Yeah I remember this taking off for a short while Pete, could never understand it myself, think it was the intro & distinctive guitar rif that made it so popular. Of course its just my opinion but was more of a rock track than soul to me, but loads of my mates were nuts on it too. Did used to get some crazy tracks on in those days, possibly the worse one I can remember was 'Spiderman' i still get a headache thinking about that track, possibly the worse track i've ever heard at any soul venue? Russ was guity of some crimes in the later years. Aid.

Ahh right, that explains it. Just I've seen a demo 'Message To The Ghetto' up for grabs for pennies & was wondering if any 'Broken heart' was/could be on the flip........I knew it was too good to be true, the issue can go for a fair whack too. Thanks for getting back & clearing that up anyway, we live & learn. The hunt goes on.......

Beggin for a Broken heart on Mega. I know there was an error cutting same track on both sides on the promo hence issue is rare. My question is,........ was this error on all demo's or do any demo's exits with 'Beggin for a broken heart' on? Cheers Aid.
  7. God I love the John Harris track. Just come straight in at number one for me knocking Rogers & The Nu-tones, Make a change, Troy Dodds, Try my love & Kel Osborne Quicksand (one of these going on ebay tonght) off my personal chart this week, absolutely superb track, thanks for the upload.
  8. Yeah, bit earlier Rain wasn't it? Not all doom & gloom latter period of the Casino, some prime soul to come out of that period, white included, Construction ala Del Capreez, regards to general soul, reckon even Larry Clinton didnt get spun till 78 onward. I used to take a cassette, never really a success, wish i could find em now. Just used to get mine from Manship, a lot of Soul Sam stuff on those, stuff not getting played at Wigan, remember Jimmy Burns on one, long before it got played at the Casino.
  9. Yeah Pete, it was massive for a while, agree it sounded great in the Casino,, but one of those that had the longevity of a mayfly, soon got fed up with, if you know what i mean, were Rain white? Was plenty of great blue eyed stuff at the same time that stands the test of time, am thinking of lynn Randell & bobby paris to name a few, but they started playing (well some dj's) some crap too didnt they? Just a matter of sorting the wheat from the chaff.
  10. Hey Neil, Fairly new to this site & just reaiised who i am talking to! Halfway through your book at the moment 'Northern Soul Stories, not creeping but what a great read & really imformative for someone like me that left the scene for a couple of decades Good job!
  11. Benny golson thats it, cool layed back track that. To be honest, was just into NS in those days, bit young, but those tracks never escaped my attention. Donna Summer I feel love, way before it went mainstream if memory serves.
  12. On the funk side, remember getting a free 12" of brass constuction called 'under construction' free on entry, in fact that happened a lot, a free reissue for the first people in, mad that, think i got a coasters one ive just recently found, wasnt sure where it came from, but thinking about it now thats it.
  13. Agree about Johnny Williams. Spring Rain Sylvetti was big if my memory serves. Also a track called Killer Joe, cant remember by who?
  14. Pete, is that Rain, Out of my mind? Always reminds me of that WC documentary that one.
  15. Great days, i used to think all the funksters (from the south) were from Mars, drainpipes, winkle pickers & mohair jumpers and wedge hairstyle, but they were just ahead of their time. Some great tunes spun by Curtis, Idris Mohammid, one called 'Wings of a pheonix' dont know who by? Center City? I was blinkered with northern & a bit young to really appriciate that things had moved on. Also, that springy dancefloor was superb. Will deffo go to this.
  16. I had a one with 4 tracks Twans I cant see him Pat Powdrill Do it Harry Betts jealousy inst cover i think Cant remember last think it was lorraine silver lost summer love, which i always hated, how much soul does a 13 yo white jewish brit girl have? Answer None.

The irony is that when i lost touch with NS at the end of the 70s, i got into collecting rare new wave and post punk vinyl, ive been floggin some of these on ebay and cant believe what prices they have been fetching, all proceeds will be recycled back into my true love of rare NS of course. Some bloke just paid me more for a very early orange juice single than i payed for a yum yums demo back then, and that was an arm and a leg to me. Funny old world innit!

Not selling any origs, just got rid of about 70 odd reissues to a mate i promised them to for a ton, prob about right, anyway wanted rid. Did keep an orig major lance investigate that nearly went with that lot, but otherwise mostly junk imo. Now i can start huntin some gems out :-)
