  1. Ady Croasdell was spinning this mid 80's. I'd consider it Latin, always though of it that way although it fitted in with some of the latin stuff he was playing at the time.
  2. Nice one pal. I can't believe I'm missing pages. I reckon the mice have been reading them in the garage and made a nest from them once read.
  3. Like every diet, everything in moderation , nothing to excess. If it is good then it is good if it is bad then it shouldn't be played
  4. Has anyone not got copies of these?
  5. The guy who wanted me to upload the track to find out what it is has since found out who it is but hasn't told me who.

She didn't Robb. Like you say it is Norma Jenkins, thnk some getting confused as it was played as LaBrenda Ben I think when none knew who it was.
  7. If you cant find examples of the above tracks I mentioned to listen to I'll try and put some on my soundcloud page over the weekend.
  8. I'm not talking about any records really Greg, it's a topic that was being debated in another topic but the sort of records mentioned so far are nothing like what I mean by today's funky soul. Most of those mentioned are simply northern, have a northern feel and are not alien to the majority of dancers. I'm talking about records like Clip Info: Sir Guy - I Need You, Gamith, King Roosevelt, William C Belton and John Harris and the Soul Sayers if that's the correct name off top of my head. Four of the above are from a Paul Sadot mix I put in refosoul for him. Funk edged soul has been around for decades on the scene but te last few years there is more funk than soul in many of the tracks championed under the name funk edged soul, good or bad? Like Steve said there is some good stuff but like he also says there is some rubbish that IMO is only played by others trying to be the next Paul Sadot or Karl Heard and failing miserably.
  9. It was quite sensible and a good answer. It is the answer you could give to any genre of this broad scene of ours.
  10. There is a lot, probably a majority, that lose that northern feel though. I've seen many an empty floor at all-nighters, even to top DJ's simply because they probably feel the DJ has gone to far or over stepped the mark?
  11. Well if they are sold then yes they are breaching copyright laws.
  12. Funky Soul, Funk edged Soul...however you wish to describe it. Good or bad? Does it have a place at venues or is a lot of it a case of the Emperors New Clothes.
  13. On Sallies question I think there is a demand for a Rare Soul Weekender. People are asking us all the time when are going to do another. It is just finding a suitable venue with the right amount of rooms or another friendly hotel very close by. As soon as you mention all night to some they don't want to know. We ran weekenders at The Ye Old Bell where we had all-nighters as well. We supplied a mini bus for those stopping at the travel lodge a few miles away but didn't want to go down that route again, wanted everything at hand. We also feel we supplied, over the weekend, some of the best soul music anywhere in Europe at the time and I still don't think it has been bettered musically. There hasn't and still isn't anywhere in this country that does what Lifeline did at it's weekenders IMO. The list of DJ's was amazing and that is what we would like to get back to again at the right venue.
  14. Ignore the above, I've reduced the size........ Grapevine & RCA Northern Soul Listing2.pdf
  15. If anyone would like the PDF shout up and I'll look at putting it up at sendspace or divshare or somewhere similar. It is about 86mb and not sure if I can reduce the size???
  16. The talk about the Grapevine demo the other day made me dig this booklet out of the garage. Can't remember the year it was done, it might be inside but it was put together by Malcolm Hegarty. Anyway I've scanned it and attached as a JPG's as the PDF document was too large, it might be of interest to some of you. It does have some of my scribbling, I'm sure I have a clean copy and if I find I will scan and replace.
  17. Joan, you misunderstand, there is nothing at all wrong with discussing Sallies request as to whether there was demand for a rare soul weekender, there was nothing wrong with your response either. The topic though is now sharing a discussion about the merits of funky soul, I'm simply saying can we stick to the topic, nothing serious just a simple request. If others wish to discuss funky soul and whether it is any good or not feel free to do so in it's own topic. I believe that when members open a topic under a given heading it should be largely discussing the topic title (I know I know, topics have a habit of going off at a tangent). Some might not want to trawl through a discussion on funky soul to find the discussion about whether or not there is the demand for a weekender.
  18. At no point have I said people cannot give their opinion. From a personal point of view I am opening a topic which is about the need or not for a Rare Soul Weekender to find some arguing about the merits of funky soul. All I am saying from a mod point of view this isn't the topic to discuss the merits of funky soul. Why not start a topic and discuss funk edged soul and have a good proper debate about it? Why can't people just accept a simple request?
  19. Some of you will remember Pete Lawson's fantastic magazine. I've just got mine out of the garage, my intention is to digitise all three of them. I've already sliced issues 1 and 2 down the middle as I'd done scans of some pages in the past. However Ion getting the mags out this time I'm mission g several pages from the first two. Can anyone help me pout with the missing pages or borrow me the magazine so that I can scan? Gutted I was to find them missing pages!!!

The topic is about LaBrenda Ben. Norma Jenkins is the same record and is unissued. The Sparkels was the one released on Old Town.
  21. This topic is about whether there is demand for a Rare Soul Weekender. Can we start another topic to discuss the merits of funky edged soul please then at least fellow members know what they will be reading when they open a topic. Thank you.
  22. a fellow member, funkysoul, asked if I would help out buy uploading an unknown track for him, here it is, anyone identify it? https://soundcloud.com/chalkster/unknown-r-b-track
  23. Chalky replied to a post in a topic in Look At Your Box
no it wasn't...not the one being discussed here.
  24. If we find a suitable venue then we will be running a weekender.
  25. If you had explained what you meant better then I possibly wouldn't have removed it, off the cuff remarks do cause trouble and different people read such remarks in different ways.
