  1. Loved the soul nights Chris and had the pleasure of Djing there. Steve Smith tried to swap his demo of Jesse Davis with my issue All the Dj's put some thought into their sets and carried on wher the 80's left off with quality rare soul. Great record bar as well which was well stocked every time with all the main dealers of the time. Don't think I have any flyers for these nights.
  2. we have a calendar and events section for plugging your event
  3. If not Pete he makes a habit of making typos....
  4. Think the "in my day" about sums this up Ian, 1977 maybe, not really a record for today's scene surely? Personally think it is terrible and that price has to be a joke surely?
  5. I would have thought to qualify for the longest running club night it would have to be a regular happening would it not? Running for the large part of the years claimed on a regular basis?
  6. here's the link to the bay sale with scan....https://cgi.ebay.com/...a#ht_500wt_1156
  7. someone just paid £182 for the one on ebay
  8. I thought Liberty used their own but wasn't 100%. This one certainly looks more authentic than the audiodisc one which had dodgy written all over it IMHO.
  9. Might be wrong, might look different in me hands but looking at the scans it looks too new to me, no wear round the holes that you would expect from an acetate from the 60's, look at the centre hole. Label looks new as well and hardly a mark on the disc. The flip on this "acetate" isn't the flip on the 45, is it on the LP? Would Liberty use New York Audiodisc, especially for a 45 UK release?
  10. It looks dodgy to me.
  11. yes they do
  12. If you advertise as Across The Board, to me it is what I said earlier, everything up to the present day, not simply the odd track or two either but a good percentage of everything. Some might see the flyer and go as much for the modern as well as the Northern but are ultimately disappointed when they get Angie Stone and a few 70's tracks. Maybe as Roy says promoters should begin to be a bit more specific as to what they play. 60's and 70's I don't consider across the board, many 70's played and listed on this forum in playlists are well and truly accepted by most on the scene but they are essentially oldies. Too many have a narrow view as to what ATB means but to me it is 60's, 70's, 80's 90's and 2000 and beyond all in the same room, bit like it was back in the 80's when modern Dj's could be found on the line up at an all-nighter and later at venues like Albrighton. How many Modern Dj's do you see at Northern venues? Especially those that claim to be across the board.

Somehow I don't think he would be there in any circumstances.
  14. Moving this to All About The Soul, best forum for it really and better exposure.
  15. Regardless how you choose your night a flyer is advertising and the same for any product it should reflect what it says it offers, if not it is false advertising

Nobody is watched all night, I said if seen putting talc down they will be asked to leave. Obviously the security, promoters and club owners have to keep an eye on the place otherwise if something happened and we didn't see it we would be accused of not doing our jobs. You can't win with some folk.

the floor is fast enough, you don't need talc, that's the puzzling thing about it.

I wouldn't dream of cleaning my shoes on the furniture like some did at the Stables, do people wipe their feet on their own furniture at home? Sorry but anyone caught using talc at the Stables will be asked to leave, orders of the management/owner and we are not in a position to argue. People should respect things that do not belong to them.
  21. https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00z08tx/Johnnie_Walkers_Sounds_of_the_70s_From_Millie_Jackson_to_Muhammad_Ali/ Not all Soul Music but he has Millie Jackson giving her view of the 70's. Broadcast this afternoon but is still available on BBC iPlayer

but aren't you getting involved with the politics with saying what you are saying in this topic? I don't see too much where people tell others where they should go, yes some have an opinion on the retro clothing but so what, it's not as though they are directly insulting someone, simply expressing an opinion how naff or how good they look.? And besides I think the topic is more about the anorak side and knowledge side of Northern Soul and not the politics, who wears what and goes wherever.
  23. Just edited topic title a bit Ken, gives us all some idea what the topic about
