Why Don't You Go To All Nighters?
So the Mecca wasn't the real thing? Neither was the Dome, nor Lowton and the DDA and countless other quality soul nights? Next thing you'll be saying they aren't proper soulies who go to soul nights

Why Don't You Go To All Nighters?
either single or in their 50's without as many commitments as they once had....you only have look round the average nighter venue, there aren't that many spring chickens about. Its ok to knock those who say they have been there and done it but they have and what have they got to prove???? f*ck all!!!! Simon started the topic but he's been in the army many years if I remember rightly, correct me if I'm wrong, hardly off his t*ts every week travelling up and down the country. others as Spot says lucky enough to be retired and correct me if I'm wrong but also had many years away, wonder how he'd feel after 20+ years of all nighters, same question to anyone else who's had a long break? Most only come back to the scene when family grown up and mortgage paid or well on it's way to being paid. The nighter scene can soon takes it's toil week in week out, or even say two a month, especially with work and family to fit in. It ain't a cheap hobby either travelling the country. The music is very much the same, even at venues that claim to be playing something different, for me there's very little I haven't heard to be honest and to hear it week in week out for 20 or so years.....well it does get a tad boring regardless of how good it is. Simon's question a valid one but it don't take long for some to start slagging others does it as usual. Most people on here have f*ck all to prove to anyone, most have been there and done it and what they choose to do is nothing to do with anyone else. Why can't some just get on with what they want to do and leave others to do what they want?

Wasn't it discovered not to be Audrey Matthews (who is JMM's daughter) and more likely the writer Sharon McMahon???

Bob & Fred - I'll Be On My Way - Big Mack
I think everyone I know prefers the first version of Soul Searcher they heard. Me it was Eddie Hughes. Don's version is terrible IMHO in comparison, heard better from a p*ssed up karaoke singer, how it got past quality control I'll never know Here's a Picture sleeve of another Don Hysong release posted on the Rare Soul Forum a few years ago.

Dodgy Soul Source Member ?
I agree with you that it is up to Marc to explain comments regarding the advert but like I said it doesn't make it a boot as you claim that is why I suggested an independent opinion from a well respected dealer as to it's authenticity in attempt to please both you and Marc? Hope you sort it amicably.
-
Dodgy Soul Source Member ?
doesn't make it a boot though just cause it ain't stamped which is what John is claiming.
-
Dodgy Soul Source Member ?
Maybe that well known record dealer you spend a lot of money with can verify one way or the other for both yours and Marc's benefit Maybe then you both take the word of him and a satisfactory outcome for both?
-
Dodgy Soul Source Member ?
but the record isn't a counterfeit/boot as you claim so based on that you paypal claim doesn't hold up?

Seal Trbute
listened again and still say he does quite a credible job for the first part, but he starts to lose it second half and loses it altogether towards the end And you are right it does like the soul compared to Sam's version but then again I don't think he's making a statement like Sam Cooke, it's a record aimed at the charts.

Ian Levine, Motorcity, Centre City, Blackpool Mecca, And Swons
I posted this in the "other IL topic in site matters.....maybe I should have put it here so here it is..... Whatever you think about the videos, the quality, the production whatever...at least the artist gets some well deserved credit IMHO and that is what the DVDs are all about at the end of the day, not to blind some would be newcomer to the scene to think that this is what northern soul really is, I mean c'mon Ians productions, especially the DVD's don't get played at the vast majority of NS venues, if any...most play what's been called "real" northern soul with the odd exception picking something from the charts, Duffy etc. C'mon no one more than me champions "real" northern soul and I always will do. At the end of the day it has never been just about the record for me. If in any small way the the artists producers etc get some deserved recognition then why is that such a bad thing, be it going to a gig to see then on the rare chance they appear, buy a a cd or one of Ians dvd? If you don't like Ian Levine, what he does, say, produces or anything else about him go and read something else and contribute to other areas of Soul Source not continually spout your dislike for something that doesn't agree with you, by all means voice your opinion but to do so continually over and over and over in the way it's been done on the topic in question goes beyond voicing ones opinion IMHO. I stopped reading the topic cause of all the crap that was going on and I've got to admit some of it was cringe worthy and plenty didn't come from Ian. From what I've seen and read the majority of people who contributed to the topic had a genuine interest in Ian and what he's done. Don't get me wrong I'm not sticking up for Ian and like it's been said he is his own worst enemy at times, we've had our differences in the past but he still had and does have my respect for what he's done and achieved whatever those differences have been.

Ian Levine, Motorcity, Centre City, Blackpool Mecca, And Swons
think some just want an arguement Kev. At the end of the day if you don't like the DVD's, Ian or whatever he does say so, voice your opinion but then move on. Go and make a positive contribution to the forum elsewhere. As I said in the other Levine topic, to continually go on and on, over and over voicing your opinion in the manner things have been said on this topic goes beyond voicing one's opinion if you ask me.

Flash Mckinley
You were right the LPT's were the in house production team at La Beat. The info can be found in the Detroit Soul Cd The La Beat Recordings. They were simply musicians who work/had worked for labels all over Detroit. Accordig to the liner notes the LTP's at various times were John Glover, William Marvin Smith, Michael Calhoun, Fred Bridges, Johnny Mills, Curtis Trusel and as you rightly say Jerome Thomas who did the vocal to Long Cool Summer.

Background Noise
I posted a list of terms and definitions years ago that someone posted on KTF years ago....here's the biut about nvinyl and it does explain abit about noise..... Vinyl (properly Polyvinyl Chloride). Relatively flexible material used since the early 1930s to make non-breakable records. Its fumes are an acknowledged carcinogen, so don't breathe in deeply when you have your next holy burning of Beatles or back-masked devil-worship records. :-) Usually pressed by Compression Moulding which allows the label to be an integral part of the pressing itself. This process also requires that there be extra material which spills out the sides of the press, therefore this extra material is routinely ground up and re-used. Because vinyl does not re-heat and re-cool to a smooth, glossy surface, the excessive use of re-grind mixed in with Virgin Vinyl can account for the inherently noisy surface of even Unplayed Mint examples of the cheap pressings that some record companies used. Noise can be seen AND HEARD by looking at and/or playing the un-grooved surface of the lead-in and lead-out areas. If this area looks or sounds grainy, then the grooves will also have some of this grainy background sound. The stampers used for the compression moulding process will start to break down after only 1,000 pressings because they are forced to expand and contract when heated by steam at the start of the pressing cycle and then cooled to solidify the record. Some companies routinely overused their stampers for their pop record series.

Bob & Fred - I'll Be On My Way - Big Mack
Although a different style, the Mae Young is not in the same league as Bob & Fred, it's several divisions below There's far more quality in Bob and Fred than the mess of a record that is Mae Young (IMHO of course). But like you said each to their own

Bugger that get his/her name out in the public if they pull stunts like this. And whilst we are at it why not name and shame all those who pull a stunt or waste someone's time on Soul Source, then all who sell know who to avoid. If he or she has over spent or whatever reason it's their fault, it's of no concern to Marc.

Mike Terry Rip
As Eddie says a massive influence on the scene with his involvement in one capacity or other on so many great records. Like popcorn Mike is a true great and a legend. Gilly told me the last time I saw him that Mike was unwell and things weren't looking too good
