If I wanted to hear pop records like D*ffy I'd go to local night club. If I wanted to hear Reach Out I'll Be There (again middle of the road pop) I'd listen to radio 2!!! There are 100's of great real soul and northern soul records from the 60's to the present day that many ignore for the likes of pop crap like Duffy

because it's not new and recorded in a chicken shack is why I got into Soul and Northern Soul not records that are number one in the pop charts....two or three venues on here I won't be going to in the near future
  7. There was definately two rooms Mark, oldies upstairs. Here's an advert from the November 1987 Echoes. Think there was just the one all-nighter after this one, Boxing night. Could have been one more Kebs last three records in his last set outside of London was the Boss 4, Charmaines and JD Bryant.

It's been £100 to £150 for some time hasn't it? Remember seeing one for £150 two or three years ago.

  12. this is what is listed on the BMI site... 13. composed by Gene McDaniels. He also did a version which someone asked about on the RSF some weeks ago but can't find a 60's version, can only find a more recent version. Did he cut one in the 60's? Les McCann the original cersion as far as I'm aware, thats who Gene wrote it for I think, so I read when looking into the track.
  14. could have been Andy's last list or one befoer, listed 4th Day I think for £40. Over £100 a bit much
  15. somehow Rod I totally missed it rather than ignored it
  16. barmy!!!!
  17. how can you compare the two records
  18. The likes of Mercy have nothing to do with Northern and are far removed from the northern I've been listening to over 20 years. The only thing in common is the northern dancers... I've seen little influx of youngsters to the scene and I think we are highly unlikely to as well in sufficient numbers to continue the scene...the odd venue that do have yopungsters are the exception rather than the rule and many of those do not travel. why on earth would they want to go out with 400 folk old enough to be their mums dads and in some cases grand parents
  19. yes...there was a topic few days ago about this in here.

great record and one I've played at Lifeline. Andy Dyson had one, not sure if he's still got one. E-mail him Dysonsoul@aol.com
  24. When I said Steve in charge I meant you gave him responsibility for that room, sure thats what he mentioned in conversation about the venue once. Rob Marriott charging the squad to get in, "don't give a f*ck who you are, tenner (or what ever the entrance fee was back then)"
