  1. Ted , dont muck about with sound files, just buy the Golden Fleece LP blind, the whole LP is brilliant from start to finish !!!
  2. Price on this please ? Also which particular toons off the LP got dance floor exposure ?
  3. QUOTE(kenneth aitchison @ Sep 25 2005, 03:41 PM) How much for Crown four then, any chance a scan or sound clip? About the same, or maybe even less? I don't think anyone is after it as a 'rare first version' or anything. Rarer than the others I think, but don' think that is reflected in price. The Chosen Few is a better and more powerful mix IMO, and therefore more desirable, if you ask me anyway. Far from certain though... THE OTHER SIDE OF THE CROWN FOUR IS A GREAT TOON IN ITS OWN RIGHT AND DESERVES TO BE PLAYED , DONT YOU THINK CHRISTIAN ?
  4. The Trammps were a whos who of Philly Soul weren't they !!! And with their connection to the Volcanos on Arctic too ... Jimmy Ellis was one of the GREAT unsung soul vocalists, never got the credit he deserved because the Trammps were always dismissed (unfairly) as a disco group ALWAYS WONDERED IS THIS THE SAME JIMMY ELLIS WHO DID THE NORTHERN BIGGIE ON CENTURY CITY ???

What would be the current asking price then for a Turbo original ?

I agree that the LP version is the better The New Sounds LP seems to be incredibly hard to come by ... just HOW rare is it ? And what would its likely market price be if offered for sale ?
  7. I know the 7" is listed in the Golden Fleece discography on Dave Rimmer's site "3257 - The Trammps - Stop And Think / Trammps Disco Theme - 1975" BUT I can't say that I've ever actually seen one for sale after all these years !!! I know it got issued as a seven in some European countries. Was it actually EVER issued in the US ??? Or were the rights to the label sold to CBS before it even got out ??? If so, does anyone have one to sell me !!! With thanks !!!
  8. Imperial Wonders ! Fantastic track , but I have an even BETTER version by a group called Rock 'N Co on the AMG label !!! Despite their name , the group are VERY black and VERY soulful !!! Does anyone know it , as I can't EVER remember seeing it offered for sale or in any of the guides ? I assume its much rarer than the Imperial Wonders ? Possibly its the original version too ... ? Any info anyone ?

Anyone ever bothered to listen to the fantastic flip side of that Lovelites 45 , track called "Oh What A Day " , actually the better side IMO !!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. Hi Sebastian Isley' original version also issued in Australia on a CBS 45 in 1974 as the flip to "Highways of Life " Yes , lovely toon , both sides of the Isleys, although the Ace Spectrum version is excellent for Northern dancefloors !

Sorry Gene, didn't want to start an international incident here or offend anyone, just some sensible discussion about the issue of record grading. It was just that more than a few people in recent years seemed to have been a little let down by the condition of records bought from some well known collectors / dealers in the UK. Of course there are dodgy dealers all over the world, but I think the point I was hoping to make was that we could all try to tighten up the approach to grading , which would benefit all of us in the end, especially on the rare soul scene which means the most to me and the scene that most of the people on this site circulate in. That's all I was trying to do. By the way my closest mates are just about all from the UK. To be honest with you, I couldn't possibly come anywhere near Tim Brown as far as record collections go and I certainly never claimed rights to the Soul Scene in OZ either, maybe I gave the wrong impression ... if that was the impression given. If I did offend Gene , or anybody else , now or before, my unreserved apologies to all. Hope to be over there in the near future and catch up with many long time friends and have a few drinks ... on me of course. Cheers
  12. Darrell Banks Is Here LP ?

"Good or Very Good" Condition ??? By Goldmine grading standards , a record in "Good" condition would have LOADS of DEEP scratches , pops , and clicks , virtually unplayable. "Very Good" would mean still lots of scratches and marks and not much better than "Good" .... Based on those gradings , none of the records in the list, not even the big tunes, would be worth more than twenty to fifty quid really. I think sellers should take the time to be more specific on gradings , and in particular describe whether a record has cue burn , plays slightly off centre, has it been been jocked with to any great extent , and give a separate grading for condition of label etc etc I'm getting the impression that a lot of collectors outside the UK are becoming increasingly frustrated with UK Northern and Rare Soul dealers / jocks / collectors who ignore factors such as cue burn , label condition etc when selling records, and particularly the dreaded "Exc" grading (after Mint) that only people from the UK seem to use. And UK sellers never seem to recognise that a record can be graded anything less than VG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As if the "Poor / Fair / Good" gradings that everyone else uses around the world don't exist !!! Gradings should go from: MINT never played, as if hot off the press VERY GOOD PLUS slightly less than mint, played only once or twice in its lifetime , the lightest handling scuff from sleeve etc VERY GOOD some very light superficial marks , still really nice looking GOOD more marks , cue burn , some scratches FAIR more scratches (what some would call " good for DJing only, this is what many UK sellers would grade as "Excellent" !) POOR very scratched all over The grading of "EXCELLENT " should be completely removed from the mind set of UK sellers !!! If a record has been jocked with for quite some time (causing groove wear) , but still appears to have very few marks visually , but may have cue burn etc , then I believe such a record should be graded as Fair or Good Plus , NOT as Exc or VG + that UK dealers have got into the habit of describing !!! Anyway thats my lecture for today!!! Think this topic of record grading on the soul scene in the UK definitely deserves a major thread on Soul Source. As I say non UK collectors are getting very frustrated at the way UK soul dealers describe what are otherwise only good or fair condition records as "Excellent or Very Good Plus " etc etc I have to return more than a few big records to UK dealers for refunds over the last 12 months because of this... Over to you Mr Moderator.................
  14. I'll take the Coasters LP if its still there . What's the cover pic/ design like ? Is it the one with the old drunk with a bottle in his hand and a hat on , as on the US King original LP ? Which UK London label design is it ? The plain black one with silver writing I guess ? Cheers!
  15. Ian , I can trade you a nice exc condition demo of Sugar & the Spices, for a mint Mel Britt or Constellations I Dont Know About You PM me if you like Cheers!

Try and get the version by Earl Okin on UK Columbia , its much better and he's the guy that wrote it !
  17. "*Tupac: House of Blues 1996" WELL IF TUPAC PLAYED AT THE HOUSE OF BLUES, IT COULD BE ARGUED THAT HE HAS SOME RELEVANCE TO SOUL SOURCE Wonder if he did a rap version of Bright Lights Big City or summit like that on the night to cater for the Blues crowd !!!!!
  18. Let's just say it's the Four Vandals for ease of reference !!!
  19. "JIVE CAT" The Apollas (Warner Bros) Considering how revered the Apollas are on our scene , I've never ever heard this played out or even seen it on lists for sale. It has a great version of "Under The Influence of Love " (the first and original version perhaps ?) on the other side. Its not really a rare record, or in demand (yet ) , but what an absolute stormer , every bit as good as Mr Creator. Anyone familiar with it ? And does anyone have any detailed or in depth information on the girls (or know of any web sites) other than the stuff on that Loma compilation CD of a few years ago ? Lead vocalist was I understand Billie Barnum, who I always guessed might have been related to HB Barnum, the group and HB Barnum being LA / West Coast based ... Anyone ? Jive Cat , a STORMER !
  20. Thanks, are record and sleeve both mint ? Cheers!
