Yep, superb LP , for the broad minded who are into all things soulful and funky Includes of course the fantastic northern dancer "I Need You Girl", also released on a UK seven on Fantasy I believe.

Hope you're "on the money" for Sydney this weekend Pete ! (Double O here in case you hadn't sussed)

Think he means 950 US !!! Either way, it sounds like Pete's a bit dazed and confused ... which is a bit of a worry as he's one of the featured jocks at our massive Northern Soul Weekender in Sydney, Oz this weekend ...
  4. Was just throwing some of their old stuff on the turntable and then put the volume on full with: "The Outside World" (Atlantic) Whoosh !!! What an awesome slab of s.o.u.l !!! This was BIG on the scene way back and sounds even better now !!!
  5. Chalky, just discovered Jesse's web site , appears that his cracking version of Stormy was only ever released on his Australian only LP, which I just dusted out of my vaults LOL Seems that Jesse is in top health and still going strong ... surely an excellent candidate for a live appearance in the UK Mr Croasdell ? Here's the link to his site https://www.jessedavissings.com

What's the full track listing on the LP? From memory, there were no LP only tracks, all the LP tracks appeared on their 45's, right ?
  7. Yes Simon, and their other one on the label "Running Wild" is equally as good and also deserves to be played more !
  8. Just heard this on refosoul, is it 45 or LP or unissued originally or what ?
  9. 25 quid for an Aussie issue on A & M , best and rarest way to own it as Mr Manship would say

Just this weekened proudly played the New Sounds (IMO) superior LP version of "Sweet Memories" in front of a jock that came on directly after and played the Robert Tanner 45 release of the tune ....
  11. "Falling In and Out of Love" Derek Martin Could someone also please tell me if there exists a complete discography of every LP released on the Stang / All Platinum / Turbo group of labels, including all the smaller subsidiary labels .
  12. Great Jerry "Swamp Dogg" Williams produced dancer "New York City" on Atco , must have been recorded by the Precisions 'bout 68 or 69 after the Drew label folded.

But Davie, as I said earlier in the thread , in many cases the LP IS rarer than the 45 !!! eg Alex Brown , The Topics etc And what about the collectors who spend "time, money and effort" obtaining those rare LPs ?

110% in agreement with you Sean on everything ... are the "45 police" also gonna tell us that we cant play 12'' issues of Lew Kirton or Skip Mahoney or Greg Perry as well ??? !!!! And in the nicest possible way I totally disagree with Dundee Davie and Mik Parry , in that I will continue to proudly (and defiantly) play LPs in front of DJ's that have the 45 off the LP ... In some cases the LP is RARER than the 45 , such as the Alex Brown LP on Sundi or the Topics or the Ultimates both on TSG ... I always love to see the faces of broad minded soul fans (thankfully the majority!) when they see the brilliant covers of many of these LP's ... Although it's somewhat of a myth that LP's have less "fidelity in sound" than 45's , in fact the opposite applies in many cases ... And I have no problem at all lugging a full LP carry case around to gigs ...

The scene should positively encourage the playing of LP's , and as a show of support for LP enthusiasts I'll often play the LP ahead of a DJ that has the rare 45 off the same LP , eg Alex Brown, Terry Callier, New Sounds, Delilah Moore , Emory & the Dynamics , Topics , Clarence Hill , Gloria Barnes , Ultimates , Free Angela ... Soul LP's still remain a hugely untapped source of great undiscovered/underappreciated dancefloor sounds in northern soul terms, including LP only tracks from the likes of The Directions, Step By Step , Heaven Sent & Ecstacy , H Andrews Congregation, Odyssey 5 , Quinn Harris , Ginji James , Swiss Movement etc etc
  16. Superb 100% soul LP from around 1970 and considering Ernie's status in the RnB & Soul world, amazing how many collectors / enthusiasts are unaware he even put out this LP ?????
  17. I'm with Ken, the flip of the Ral Donner is very bloody good actually !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sean , this thread has forced me to dig into my dusty stored-away LP boxes for the excellent P-Vine Jap only vinyl LP issued on the Ovations which includes the XL recordings to which you refer .....
  19. Absolutely desperate for a seven of the Goodies northern classic, demo preferred ....
  20. What's intriguing about this record is that it is generally known that there were two issues of this record , one with producer Louis Ramirez credited (on the first issue) and then without his credits on the second issue. I have been told that the second issue is a legitimate one, issued by the company shortly after the first, due to demand in New York discos ... and that it was not a bootleg emanating from the northern scene in the UK. Anyone ?
  21. So, Benny Hill must have been the inspiration for the Platters "Shing a Ling A Loo" dancer on their Going Back To Detroit LP ....
  22. SOME CALL IT LOVE is the fantastic flip side to James Lewis / Case of Tyme's "Manifesto" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  23. Sunnysoul replied to a post in a topic in Record Sales
That's right Sean, and there's a great up tempo dancer on the Sarah Vaughan LP called "That'll Be Johnny" ...
  24. Interesting that the track "Willie Pass The Water" appeared on the Ripple LP on GRC which Dee had a hand in. He seemed to have a varied career after his early 60's hit making days on Dimension. I seem to recall some song writing credits with Sugar Pie de Santo ... and then his own "I Only Get This Feeling " ...

Somebody better snap up that Duke & Leonard, without doubt destined for bigger things ....
