Shorty Long ! Motown Artist ! More Info Please
With all the massive trawling through the Motown vaults of unreleased stuff over the last 25 years or so - and the general deeper appreciation of the Motown legacy - one artist that still SEEMS to get little attention is SHORTY LONG. All that is ever written about Shorty is that he died tragically in a boating accident in the late 60's. And aside from the two excellent LP's he recorded for the company , little else is known or said about him. Anyone have any more bio info, video or audio clips , reminiscences , authentic acetates , favourite tracks they want to talk about ?

"you Don't Know Where Your Interest Lies"
The Australian only release of "You Don't Where Your Interest Lies" by Fia Karin on the Spin label remains the best "northern" style version of the tune (IMHO) and is very rare too , Aussie collectors will confirm that ... Anyone care to post a clip of the Fia Karin version ? ...

Lindy Stevens : Penny Gold
What's the current value of this and what are the various Decca 7" US label variations. Was it a Wigan Casino record? Can anyone post a scan of her LP cover? I need to show a fellow soul collector that Lindy was a white country/pop singer !

Suprisingly Hard-to-find Late 70s/early 80s 45s
Sebastian , there's a great dancer by Merry Clayton from 1981 called "You Were Always There" that MCA recorded on her as a promo only 7" , I believe, to plug the the Get Smart Movie that Universal released in cinemas that year . And I'm sure it wasn't on her MCA LP either from around that time ....

Barry Darvell
Looks like you're sorted with this one Tone. I was going to say you're welcome to "borrow" my copy so to speak, if need be, especially if you need it for research. Definitely a blue eyed artist of course, but it's a very creditable up-town early 6T's New York sounding disc, and he obviously was inspired by Ben E King's sound. Deep In the Heart of Harlem ? Sounds like an interesting project. Are you able to elaborate ? Hope Clyde McPhatter's absolutely epic LP "Songs of the Big City" on Mercury features prominently, one of the great soul / R n B LP's ever.

Della Reese : Northern : Rnb With Lonnie Sattin
Ooops ,you're right Tone , but it was early morning hours when I was posting that up and the combination of lack of sleep and a drop (or several) of pure malt scotch was affecting my soul "memory" !!! And I had Lovelace's name in my head from the recent thread elsewhere too ! Lonnie Sattin had Who's Gonna Mention My Name on Scepter and others ...

Della Reese : Northern : Rnb With Lonnie Sattin
Super Scopitone clip of Della ... and correct me if I'm wrong ... but that's Lonnie Sattin ( of " Dreams " on Sue northern soul fame ) playing up to her . Great stuff !
