It will be of significantly vast importance? What a load of absolute tosh. So ANY film good or bad is a reference for the inspiration of future generations? I can only assume IPSO facto have hired you as some sort of evangalistic press officer or is this a wind up? Nice one if it is mate! Im pmsl On that basis the crap TV film that came out in the 70s was of significantly vast importance? Even though it was a pile of innacurate crap and ALL on the scene distanced themselves from it for fear of being mis represented and associated with it. Your advocating that the fact that it was done, was an inspiration ? YOU may have had no taste or feel a film has to be tacky (see trailer for reference) to sell, but many films have managed to avoid this and represent accuuurately a period of history. Whilst i know your 'Carry On Up The Casino' approach will probably be popular, it makes me cringe. 'It Wont Get Better Than This'? Very bold statement...SO no one else will make a better film about it?mmmmm? I dont think so...

AS i said, i went, and the play was based on MY experience (first hand) of those years. It was done as a one off, bUT took off. THE film (By shimy Marcus) is a pile of crap. As i said in other posts, it was originally a script that had nothing to do with the soul scene and then they saw a band wagon to jump on and did so. and squeezed the script into a WIgan film! Ive seen the script and the trailer (which is absolutely terrible)) so i dont need to reserve my judgement. A trailer is designed to show the best moments of a film to excite and intrigue you to go! So if thats it then really...its crap! But im sure loads of the people who went to Wigan for a week or two in the 70s will love it! There parents or them were nowt to do with Northern soul, you assume i comment without any background knowledge ot the film, but, as i said ive known about it, read it, years ago...! Even some of the actors in it are embarassed that they did it!

Your daughter is right. The NORTHERN SOUL scene is quaint and twee. Thats the staunch, oldies only, lets sit in a time warp brigade, that have garnered that image and claimed it as their own. This film will certainly add to the twee factor...it was directed and written by totally twee people! It features the 'TWEE BEFORE EIGHT'

I stick with some tunes trying to give them exposure, so people might become familiar with them...like Wally Coco, Grace, John Harris etc. BUT i also dont like to hammer tunes so that i become bored or sick of hearing them. I believe if you really love a tune you look after it and that includes not battering it week in week out (not that i dj much.ha! ) until it becomes a background noise. You see some djs put tunes on and can see it does Nothing for them any more, no excitement or connection to it. I just dont have tunes like that in my box. If im bored when im djing , im going to be a boring dj. I also would never play something that i wouldnt dance to. Small rooms like rugby back room, Move On, Room With A View, our cambridge venue and others are an important part of the scene, but fact is, thats what the Main rooms used to be originally like back in the day, full of new and exciting music. I know that, if promoters had bigger cahoonies and varied the dj rosters, punters would love loads of the storming 60s/70s unknowns/underplayed tunes that are around. Its a crazy attitude not to....it assumes they think that they have heard everything and i know that they haven't.
  18. RAY & the BELAIRES - The Blame Is On You £150 f--kin stormer! ARV vg++ (wol) NANCY LEE - No Words For Love modo m- incredible underplayed uptempo modo. £150 SOLD See clips below!
  19. Yep...and there already enough Reliant Robins out their that do that job very well.
  20. I know James..its a good earner. But i also know he prefers to play abroad and have a bit of freedom to play what he wants. As i said , when ive heard him abroad hes exciting and done brilliant sets that expose people to what is about that we dont know yet! Also at Brixton (while it lasted) he did this. Here people might aswell just hire one of several big name djs who tend to replicate each other. Its just a reflection of the mediocrity that pervades a part of the scene , that they want the 'tried and tested'..what was the 'tried & tested' before they first heard it? New and exciting maybe?
  21. I liked certain ratio. Few of their tracks have been sampled recently.
